340364334_42869c68a8 Goodbye 2008 and hello 2009! Wow, it's the year end already. So much has happened to me in the past year. I've turned a year older and wiser. I've grown so much emotionally. I guess with every mistake and every significant event in my life this past year, I've learned a whole lot. With those learnings, I am confident to say that I'm welcoming the new year with a whole new persona and attitude towards life. My new year's resolutions have been drafted and I'm ready for a fresh new start. So tonight, as I count the seconds away towards greeting the new year, I am toasting a great year ahead. Happy New Year everyone! Party

MouseHunt: Gnawnia Mice

Monday, December 29, 2008 , , 0 Comments

Since I'm very addicted to this Facebook game, I would like to feature the mice from a region called Gnawnia. The area is further divided into four areas, first up is the town of Gnawnia. This is where all hunters begin to hunt mice. town of gnawnia
The next area will be the Meadow which also an ideal place to hunt for beginners. meadow
When enough points have been reached, from novice to apprentice, hunters can now begin to venture out to breathe in the salty air of the Harbour.

From apprentice to journeyman, the next level up allows a hunter to go the Mountains. Here the mice are more crafty and they drop more gold.

Here are the mice available in this region:
whitemouse grey-mouse brown-mouse
dwarf-mouse steel-mouse granite-mouse
bionic-mouse gold-mouse diamond-mouse
ninja-mouse pirate-mouse zombie-mouse
burglar-mouse mole-mouse mobster-mouse
black-widow-mouse leprechaun-mouse
So far, I've caught most of the mice here except for the mole mouse and the special mice (leprechaun and mobster). Dancing

Symbol of Luck

Sunday, December 28, 2008 1 Comments

2233043470_e8b5707e3b The four-leaf clover is probably the most common symbol for luck. It's not sure when the depiction was started but according to one legend, when Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden, Eve took along a bit of clover. It is said that when  you have a clover in your hand, you're holding a bit of paradise. To the English, "to live in clover" means "to have enough money to be able to live comfortably." This is probably why the four-leaf clover is closely associated with the leprechauns of the Irish. Each leaflet represents something: One - Hope, Two- Faith, Three - Love and the Fourth leaf - Luck. It's very uncommon to find a four leaf clover, it's another factor why it has been deemed lucky.

Wishing everyone the happiest of holidays.

My family will be spending Christmas at Quezon province like we do each year. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

There was actually a VOX Question of the Day I wanted to answer the other day, it was about who you would miss most this Christmas. Well, you know who you are. You know that I'm missing you a whole lot.

Oh well, my Christmas might be a little too cold but I'm really glad I'll be with my family. They will help chase the holiday blues away. Again, wishing your holidays will be the best yet.

still gullible

Sunday, December 21, 2008 0 Comments

What do you do when you feel betrayed by a very important person in your life? How will you be able to discern the truth from the lies? How will you bounce back? How will you be able to trust again? Frankly I'm at a loss. Have I been too gullible all this time? Have I been too trusting? What did I do wrong to deserve this?

If anybody knows any answer to my questions, do please let me know.

Nov 13 Horoscope

Thursday, November 13, 2008 0 Comments

This was clipped from my Yahoo Horoscope for today:

023c0104llIf you are feeling overwhelmed right now, you need to let some things go. These things could be hopes, work projects, relationships, or even goals. The fact is that you are only one person -- you can only do so much. So you cannot beat yourself up if things do not go according to your master plan or if you feel like it's your fault things aren't happening the way you think they should. Admitting you are powerless isn't always fun, but right now it may be necessary.

Well this is really perfect for where I am in right now. Hmmmm did you see that line above? "You are only one person and you can only do so much." Sometimes I do try to do everything at once and most of the time things don't really always click into place. I wish I'll get out of this rut soon. It really isn't fun anymore. Sleepless nights and wet pillows are no fun either.

49hunchJust when I still feel wobbly from being so down, my clients from my freelance projects have all seem to conspire to bug me with requirements and to top it off, my bosses at my full time job have decided to make this week hell for me. I hope this doesn't get any worse. I won't be able to take any more.

I'm almost burned out with too much work and the week of my birthday is coming soon, the weekend getaway that I was expecting is still unconfirmed.Chances are I won't be able to go, and that really gets me down.

Won't my luck change? I have been through enough. Good people need to be happy from time to time too. Sometimes I think I spend too much time making other people happy and I forget about me. I really don't want to wallow in misery but with the bad luck I'm having...I can't help it.

sleep won't come

Monday, November 10, 2008 1 Comments

It's 6 am and still I'm up. In an hour, my mom will wake up and she'll be hounding me why I haven't gone to sleep yet. Well I can't, not when I feel that my world is crashing down yet again. I haven't stopped crying since we last talked. I'm really not looking forward going to work. If I do, I know I'll just drone off, like a robot, getting tasks done while waiting forever for the end of the day.

I tried to be brave. I mustered up every inch of strength that I had. I faked the calmness and firmness when I just wanted to scream and cry out loud. I'm starting to question why this is all happening. It hasn't been easy and now it's become unbearable. How can a heart that's been broken into a million pieces be broken into a lot more? I don't know if there's any for me left.

I wish that I'm in an alternate universe. Somewhere where we'll have a happy ending. I can wish and wish all night, but tears are still streaming down my face. My heart is still numb from the pain. The incomparable emptiness that I feel inside of me is eating my very passion for life. Things like this are supposed to make you stronger but it's just that. Stronger but not happier. Frankly I'd choose to be happier. Most of all I'd choose to have someone by my side. Someone who sees that I'm worth it all.

disheartened and dispirited

Tuesday, November 04, 2008 0 Comments

I found myself driving to work crying again. Last night was an epiphany for me and whoever said that the truth hurts really knows what they're saying. It cuts deep into me. I'm just going through the motions today at work. I'm doing sketches just to pass the time. Even my officemate noticed that I was gloomy today. I can't help it. I just want to cry. I can pretend to everyone else that I was ok but I can never fool myself. I'm just so so sad today...and you know me, I'll just drown my sorrows with work again. Here's to days of allnighters again. Well at least my clients will be happy, I'll be able to get ahead of deadlines. *sigh*

Pet Society review, tips & tricks

Sunday, November 02, 2008 , , 3 Comments

pet
This game was developed by Playfish for Facebook. I've been playing it for at least a month now and my pet is currently at level 14. The interface is very clean and the graphics are vector-based and the colors are waaaay cute. That's what attracted me to the game in the first place. Although it's a little resource heavy, the game is interesting enough to keep you going back for more.

The Basics
You start out with creating and naming your pet. You can go wacky with customizing the facial features and the fur color. You can change this the next time when you get bored by going to the stylist.
styleshop 2
After confirming the look of your pet, the screen changes to show you your pet's house. You start out with a few gold coins, a few food items and a bar of soap and brush. You can start out by buying some pieces of furniture from the furniture shops or you can also stock on food. Since your pet will be naked at first, you can also pay a visit to the clothes shop to dress him up.

The Gameplay
The main goal of the game is for you to level-up your pet by interacting socially with friends who have installed the app in your network. Leveling up also earns you gold coins which you can use to buy other stuff for your pet. You can also earn points and gold by entering competitions in the gymnasium.

You can interact with your friends' pets by visiting their house. This opens up a menu which will give you interactive options. You can also give gifts, write them a note or feed your friends' pets when they're hungry. I found out that in the options menu giving them hugs will give you the most gold. Feeding, bathing and playing with a friend’s pet also earns you gold and paw points.

You can earn more gold coins when you visit the stadium and enter your pet into a hurdles race.

Rewards
Each time you level up, your pet is given a new title and a certain amount of gold coins, plus you also get pretty neat items like a new soccer ball, a new tv etc. Trophies are also given every time you reach the requirements for a trophy category. Like if you've bought 3 hats, you'll get a bronze hat trophy as an award. There are around 34 trophies to collect and I've only managed around half of them. I've got a long way to go.

The Verdict
This is a pretty fun game. A way to kill time for half an hour a day. It's worth installing to your facebook profile. I have to warn you that it gets very addicting though.
There are new release of items every week. Playfish has seen to that and there are also special items per season. View my seasons posts here. (version 1 and version 2) With innovative gameplay, and the new items each week, it never gets boring. I highly recommend this game to anyone who’s up for hours and hours of fun.

Make me whole

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 0 Comments

(Iris after Miles asks why he falls for girls he knows aren't good for him) "Because you're hoping you're wrong. And every time she does something that tells you she's no good, you ignore it. And every time she comes through and surprises you, she wins you over, and you lose that argument with yourself, that she's not for you."

"I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible. And how it can actually ache in places you didn't know you had inside you. And it doesn't matter how many new haircuts you get, or gyms you join, or how many glasses of Chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends... you still go to bed every night going over every detail and wonder what you did wrong or how you could have misunderstood. and how in the hell for that brief moment you could think that you were that happy. And sometimes you can even convince yourself that he'll see the light and show up at your door. And after all that, however long all that may be, you'll go somewhere new. And you'll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again. And little pieces of your soul will finally come back. And all that fuzzy stuff, those years of your life that you wasted, that will eventually begin to fade."

from the movie "The Holiday"

valentines-closure-colors-1743404-l  This is actually perfect for what I'm feeling right now. I wish for a moment I can become unfeeling and just numb. I never saw this movie on the big screen, in fact I only saw this a couple of months ago when HBO started showing its reruns. When I heard these lines said, they stuck home. My eyes immediately teared up. I've always admired how certain writers can put exactly into words some painful truths that almost everyone can relate to.

I guess everyone has to go through this cycle right? Finding love, losing it, going through that phase of re-inventing yourself and finding love again. Well it's a vicious cycle. I must admit though that no matter how many times I've gotten hurt in the past, I'll always welcome love. Love is a great gift. Besides the heart is incredibly resilient, it becomes whole again after being broken into a million pieces. We, as human beings have an incomparable capacity to love, so even though it might be burdensome to go through that whole phase again...we go through it nevertheless.

Quotes: on motivation

Sunday, October 05, 2008 0 Comments

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

On temporary hiatus

Saturday, October 04, 2008 0 Comments

Ok I've been backlogged on my blog posting for two weeks now. Yeah, yeah I know. It's been pretty hectic lately. My work load has tripled in the past week. Yes you read right, it has tripled. I've been working longer hours ever since. My little blog notebook has been filled with my doodles and scribbles about blog ideas and topics I have lined up for all my blogs. I haven't gotten to sorting through them just yet. I promise when my schedule frees up a bit, I will catch up. Later y'all.

My earliest childhood memory

Sunday, September 28, 2008 0 Comments

Well my earliest childhood memory is really gross. I think I had it stored in my memory bank because it was very traumatic. It was of doctors trying to cut away my skin. When I was a year old, my nanny at that time was heating up some hot water, she tried to carry the thermos bottle while holding me at the same time. I think she slipped or something because she accidentally ended up emptying the contents of the thermos on my leg. I suffered second degree burns because of that. As I grew older though, the scar eventually became less visible because the skin got stretched, that's what I'm grateful for because I won't have to feel self-conscious of my leg when I go to the beach.

43 Things: Live Healthy

Sunday, September 28, 2008 0 Comments

healthy Living healthy for me means keeping up a healthy lifestyle, not just eating healthy food. I've started attending Yoga classes and I think that's a good start. Yoga is a great way to detoxify my body and my spirit. (I will post a blog on this soon.) Well aside from yoga, I've been maintaining a healthy balanced diet with the occasional giving in on binges. (hehehe)

One thing more is I try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I used to hate drinking water, well at least more than necessary. Well now I'm keeping my resolve. Living healthy gives me more benefits in the long run and all I can see is more positive effects than negative. I encourage everyone to live a healthy lifestyle. It will make us appreciate living even more. I'm sure of it.

Join the hunt!

Sunday, September 21, 2008 , , 0 Comments

Mousehunt is another application for Facebook from HitGrab that currently has about a million users. It's the most popular application in the social networking site. I got invited to install the app around June and I've been hooked ever since. Here's the application box entry on my profile.

mousehunt

The Gameplay

Much like Fish Wrangler, the game allows you to hunt for mice every 15 minutes. Being online also allows you to sound the hunter's horn and bring your friends on hunts. First you have to choose a trap and a type of cheese for bait. When you accumulate enough points and gold, you can buy better traps and cheeses. Earning enough points also improves your hunter rank. Currently I'm in the grandmaster league.

The Mice and the Traps

From the very mouse I caught to the mice I'm still catching, I'm still amused by the creativity that the dev team devoted to the art and the concept. The traps' art are really good also. When you visit the trapsmith, you get just a thumbnail view of the available traps so it's a nice surprise when you see your configuration on your profile page.

Here are some of the mice that I've caught so far.

diamond bionic dwarf gold ninja pirate steel zombie bat burglar mummy vampire

Special Features

Although the game concept is very simple, it can get very addicting. I sometimes find myself just waiting every 15 minutes just to click on the hunting horn. It's very fun checking what mice you've caught in the log. Sometimes the mice bring special items with them, it can be extra cheese, lab research points or even special maps to get you into special places.

Because of the large number of users for the application, developers have to upgrade their server databases a lot and these can cause a lot of downtimes and error notices on Facebook. The developers found their way around this so that it won't cause any more frustration than necessary from the users, they offer special cheeses as rewards and occasional contests where you can get prize mice.

Although I may have reached a high level in the game at this time and I'm still awaiting the latest upgrade from the developers, I would still be clicking the hunting horn just the same. Facebook users won't be disappointed with this app. I highly recommend it.
