National Geographic Channel will air "Asia's Titanic" exclusively on August 25, 2009, Tuesday at 9pm, premiering the work of a Filipino production group under the NGCI-EDB (Economic Development Board) development fund grant. Asia's Titanic is a documentary foretelling the tragic sinking of the MV Dona Paz after colliding with an oil Tanker named Vector off at Mindoro island five days before Christmas in 1987. 4,000 lives were lost in the tragedy.
The documentary in itself is a one-hour feature with accounts from the survivors and rescuers with actual transcripts from the Philippines Congressional Inquiry into the tragedy supported by archival footage and photos and computer simulated re-enactment of the collision. The film was directed by Yam Laranas.
