Jack

jack I've probably watched this movie for about a dozen times now and I've never grown tired of it. I had the chance to catch it again last week on Star Movies. It's a staple on my list of inspiring movies. The movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and stars Robin Williams. Other supporting actors include: Diane Lane, Bill Cosby, Jennifer Lopez and Fran Drescher.

“Jack’s mother? Can Jack come out and play?”

Jack is 10 year old boy with an exaggerated version of Werner Syndrome, an aging disease which gave him the appearance of a 40 year old man. When his parents decided to allow him to attend a public school as suggested by his private teacher, Jack became very good friends with his class. He experienced fun, camaraderie and heartache during his stay in the public school and eventually graduating at the top of his class in highschool.

jack-09 Why I love it

Although Jack looked old, he still looks at everything with the innocence of a child. He marvels at new stuff with the enthusiasm of a kid who has seen or experienced something for the first time. As you move into adulthood only a few of us get to remain like this, still in touch with the child within. The movie also reminded me of the simple things that can make you happy and also the value of friendship. True friends will stick with you no matter what and that is something to be treasured.

Please, don't worry so much. Because when you get right down to it, none of us have very long on this earth. Life is fleeting, like a shooting star in the sky.

Be inspired.

Life really is too short. One person can spend his life aimlessly wondering about his purpose and one can work his way on making himself useful. It all really is a matter of choice and perspective. Like Jack, I'd want to make a difference and I'd want to be able to live my life, a life that is meaningful and worth living.
