Movie Insight
I am not a big fan of horror flicks. Give me comedies, chic flicks and action films anyday but horror/suspense films really make me think twice. When the bloggers were invited to pre-screen the movie Orphan, well I was jittery. Looking at the movie poster gave me instant chills. I was thinking..."I am gonna have nightmares tonight." The movie was quite long and coming out of the theater...I was right. I was indeed going to have nightmares in my sleep.
I thought this would be your typical horror/supernatural gore fest kind of movie but I was surprised that it was a complex psychological thriller. The story revolved around the world of Esther, who at first glance is a very sweet girl. She was adopted by Kate and John, parents to 2 kids. They've recently suffered the death of their youngest, a baby girl which drove their family apart. Adopting Esther into their family was a step in order to reconcile and rebuild the harmonious relationship they once had.

There's nothing wrong with being different you know.
But Esther proved to be a handful. Watching this little villainess onscreen made me squirm in my seat. Her sweet and lovable facade was a pretense to a much darker and evil demeanour. There were several scenes when I had to look away because of the amount of gore and blood. Hahaha I know I'm no fun. It was very interesting to watch the twisted logic and the engaging psychopath plot unfold. Director Jaume Collet-Serra along with one of the producers Leonardo de Carpio did a pretty good job with this one. I highly recommend it.

I love horror flicks but hate the blood-and-gore types so this might not be for me. Or maybe I just do what you did - look away! ;-)
I look away at the scary parts in both movie genres hahaha!
