I suffered food poisoning a few weeks back. See the title above? I can't state it with more than enough apostrophes! It was really awful and I had it right when I was on vacation. Talk about bad timing. I had eaten oysters the night before at Oysterboy Metrowalk. The oysters that I had wasn't even fresh oysters, it was baked. But still I got food poisoned. One of my friends was a new mom and she couldn't breast feed while she was on antibiotics.
Food poisoning occurs when you eat food contaminated by bacteria or other toxins. In my case, the oysters must've been not prepared well when it was cooked. The symptoms usually appear 12-72 hours upon eating the contaminated food. These include: nausea vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, head or muscle aches and fever. Except for the fever part, I endured all of those symptoms during the first two days of my vacation. Trust me, it's one experience I don't want to ever go through again. Plus I've sworn off eating oysters for good.
What you should do:
- Drink plenty of fluids to replace the electrolytes in your body and to prevent dehydration.
- Avoid solid for a while but increase clear liquids.
- Go to the nearest clinic and have yourself treated with the right antibiotics.
- Although not proven, it was suggested to eat yogurt and red wine to neutralize the bacteria in your stomach.
