Cher Cabula

My laptop came bundled with Windows Vista Home Premium and although I've heard all the bad reviews and feedbacks on Vista, I'm pretty much ok with it. Sure I get pretty annoyed sometimes of all the security popups I get whenever I try to install a program but I can live it. One more thing that I don't like with Vista is the huge amount of space it allots for restore points. The last restore point I created, took up 19G of my hard disk space. Crazy huh?

Well going back though, Windows 7 has been released and I've been itching to change my OS but for the meantime, I found a simple tweak to make my taskbar look and behave just like the taskbar in Windows 7.

*Since we are going to be doing some minor tweaks in the registry, I recommend creating a restore point first, just in case a blunder happens.

Ready to iconize? Follow these steps:

  • To open the Registry Editor, type regedit in the RUN dialog box and press enter.
  • Look for the line
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
  • In right-side pane, create a new String value MinWidth and set its value to -255.

  • Then Log off and restart your system. Open a program and see the changes!
