Back when I was still working for Archion, since it was part of our job as interior designers and architects to constantly check on our project sites in order to see if our drawings and designs were being executed correctly. Sometimes, we take a bit longer at the site and it is very inconvenient for us to go all the way back to the office just to shut off our workstations. So what we'll do is, we'll call someone (who's still there) to turn it off but if there's no one, well we have no choice but to go back. But there were also times when we don’t bother going back because it was too far or we’ve gotten too tired from the work day.
It would have been great if we had a program like Screen Pass during those times. Screen Pass is an auto log off software for Windows. What does it do? It can be configured to log off an idle workstation at a specific time and inactivity. However, all unsaved changes in open applications are discarded.
I remember the boss went crazy one time because our electric bill skyrocketed. The culprit? Well, idle workstations left running all through the night. We got into so much trouble after that and our IT person had to talk to us individually about it. Haha.
