Isdaan

Saturday, August 29, 2009 , 0 Comments

IMG_0355This was our last stop-over during our surfing trip. We took a few minutes to have some pictures taken here. Isdaan is a great secret wonderland that I never knew existed here in the Philippines. It was built around the concept of a floating restaurant and turned into a mini-theme park. The theme overall was a kind of Balinese, Thai style with the occasional quirky humor We had fun taking pictures around and enjoying the appearance of the double rainbow because of the slight drizzle.

The Secret World of Gummi Bears

Friday, August 28, 2009 0 Comments

3839946620_79ff3fb7cbGummi bears (gummy bears in some countries) are popular chewy, rubbery-textured candies in the form of colorful bears. The candy originated from Germany invented by Hans Riegel of Bonn who also started the company Haribo in 1922. They produced the first Gold-bear products in the 1960s. Trolli is another popular gummi candy manufacturer and the first to introduce gummi worms in 1981. (source)

Now this popular and very tasty treat have been given a world of their own as seen in the photographs featured by these two flickr groups: Gummi bears certifiably weird and The world of Gummi Bears.

Here are some of the pictures that I have hand-picked:

Disney Pixar’s UP

Friday, August 28, 2009 , 0 Comments

disney-pixar-up-movie-poster-2 When I first saw the teaser trailer for Up months ago, I initially thought that it would be about the adventures of an old man who finally got tired of the hustle and bustle of life in the city, unconsciously bringing along a kid with him in his flying house. Well I thought that was just it but when I finally got to see the movie, it was so much more.

Up is movie about the realization of a childhood dream. To go on an adventure towards Paradise Falls and build a house by the waterfall. This dream was shared by Mrs. Ellie and Mr. Carl Fredericksen. They were following in the footsteps of their idolized adventurer, Charles Muntz. The journey to Paradise Falls is really where the fun began. The laughs were provided when Russel and Dug entered the picture.

Why I cried.
I'm a sucker for romance and the lifestory that Carl shared with Ellie was too much for my heart to bear. Hahaha Shamefully I shed a few tears. I was really touched. Deep in my heart I'm wishing to be able to share a part of my life like that with someone special as well. The ending part made me cry as well. (Yeah yeah call me a crybaby) A man who doomed himself for the rest of his life alone found new meaning and companionship with Russel. That's a bond that will never be broken.

Learnings.
90911158 You have the power to make your dreams come true. However impossible it may seem, everything that you need to achieve it is in your hands. The other themes that were shown here were persistence and compassion. Persistence because they never gave up their dream, even if they were getting old, the quest for adventure was still there. Compassion was shown when each of the characters were giving enough to give care and regard to the need of others.
large_Up-movie-pixar-disney-review-asner I loved this movie and I know I would never get tired of watching this over and over again. If you haven't yet, this movie is a must-see. Oh and bring tissues with you.

Thursday, August 27, 2009 , 4 Comments

Bloggers-Cut-Price-Invitati I got my special National Bookstore Cut Price Book Blogger invite via email yesterday and I headed out to buy books earlier today. I learned that there was indeed a 1-day advance sale ongoing at National Bookstore but only on selected books that were pre-selected and placed on bins at the aisles. My special blogger’s pass allowed me to avail of the sticker discounts one day in advance. Here are my purchases:

SmokeandMirrorsShortFictionsandIllusions_MassMarketPaperback_1185590201 Neil Gaiman’s Smoke and Mirrors, been wanting to buy this for the longest time. This would be the perfect read before retiring for the night.

Avatar

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 0 Comments

Not to be confused with the cinematic adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, James Cameron’s film Avatar is a 3D science fiction epic film set for release on December 18, 2009.

The Premise:

The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race that humans consider primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall, with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.

Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars are living, breathing bodies that are controlled by a human "driver" through a technology that links the driver's mind to their Avatar body. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri, whose beauty is only matched by her ferocity in battle.

Over time, Jake integrates himself into Neytiri's clan, and begins to fall in love with her. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth, and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world. (source)

Empty Streets

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 0 Comments

Sharing the song that I’ve always heard because it’s been a staple on my playlist but just lately discovered the depth of its lyrics.

Late Night Alumni : Empty Streets

The city feels clean this time of night
Just empty streets and me walking home
To clear my head
i know it came as no surprise
I'm affected more than I had guessed
By what was said-then
If this loves not meant to be
If a hearts not ready to open
If the naked eye won't see
It's broken.
it's a quiet time before the dawn
And I'm half past making sense of it
Was I wrong?
Should I think to give it all-should i claim to give it all?
In a world where not much ever seems
To last long.
If this loves not meant to be-if this love is not meant to be,
If a hearts not ready to open-if the hearts not ready to open
If the naked eye won't see-if we make it i won't see
It's broken.

Note: This is not the official video of the song, I think they didn’t release one.

Hoops and Yoyo

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 0 Comments

If you've browsed around for cards, you've no doubt seen these two lovable characters on print. They are the most popular animated characters from Hallmark. Hoops distinguishable clearly as the emotional pink cat who has a tendency to scream as he talks. Yoyo is the playful and energetic green bunny. I love these two. Whenever I have the option to send out e-cards, I always choose cards with them in it. Check out their official site for lots of downloadable goodies and watch funny video clips.

Midway Grill

Monday, August 24, 2009 , , 0 Comments

IMG_0344 For our final Food stop during our last day at La Union, we ate lunch at Midway Grill. We only had an hour to spare so we had to order and eat fast. Fortunately, the staff here also worked at getting our orders out at once so we didn't lose any precious time waiting. After eating, one thing is for sure...I'm going back to this place the next time I'm in La Union. Their food was sooooo good.

DSC00220 Pork Binagoongan – this was different from the binagoongan that I was used to, the pork meat was grilled first and then cooked with La Union’s special bagoong.

DSC00222Grilled Squid – this was cooked perfectly! The minute I bit into it, I couldn’t help but say “yum, yum, yum”

DSC00224Baby Back Ribs – their specialty and a must try to get first-hand experience of the melt-in your mouth tenderness of the meat that just falls easily right off the bones.

DSC00225Buko Pandan – even this one was slightly different but very very good. The macapuno-like buko chunks are served with lime colored jelly and crushed ice.

Amazing Origami Art

Sunday, August 23, 2009 10 Comments

Origami - (from ori meaning “folding”, and kami meaning “paper”) is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a given result using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without the use of gluing or cutting the paper medium. “Origami” refers to all types of paper folding, even those of non-Asian origin.
