I'm dreading to see my credit card bills this month. I know I really went over my budget during the holiday rush. I kept saying that what I was buying will really make a friend happy even if it was way more expensive than what I allotted for. Well my friends are happy with their gifts, and here I am stressing over my bill. I gotta promise myself not to overspend again, timely for the new year. Well it's part of my new year's resolutions for 2010 at least.
So this got me thinking, I was reading up on 30 Ways to Save money and it prompted me to do my own list on how to save up.
First up, no more impulsive buying.
This time I won't buy anything without asking myself at least 5 times if I need it. I will only buy when I really, really need to.
Credit card for emergencies only.
Although credit cards have limits, they tend to make me overshoot any budget that I have set for myself and that is a big no-no. So as much as possible, I will pay in cash.
Advance payments.
My car insurance company offers incentives for paying early and I'm up for another big payment this August. I'm going to try to aim to pay by June to get a bigger incentive.
Clip, Clip.
Sometimes local magazines offer coupon codes where you can avail good discounts or offers and even freebies for certain introductory products. This is a great way to save up on a few bucks as well.
Stick to the budget.
After careful study of my spending pattern, I now know which areas I should skimp on and which elements to splurge on. Now I can finally draft a budget and resolve to stick to it.
Frugal Living.
Saving up doesn't mean getting stuck at home doing nothing. I have to remember that the best things in life are free. Good conversations over coffee or an afternoon session of doing hobbies is better than binge buying or impulsive shopping. I'd take the cheapest alternative any day, plus it's more fulfilling.
