Cafe World Tips and Tricks

splash At level 26, I've been hooked playing Zynga's Cafe World on Facebook for quite a while now and it looks like I'm not getting tired of it anytime soon. To get started you need to set up a quaint little cafe. Make it your own by giving it a name and dressing your character up as the chef.

The premise of the game is simple, you need to gather enough cafe points to progress to the next level. You can do this by cooking up dishes and serving them in your cafe. As you gain more levels, you get to unlock new dishes to cook and get awards as well. The first few levels of the game serves more as a walkthrough for you to get the hang of the time. The tutorials will level you up enough until you can hire a friend or staff to help you out. These "hired" friends will serve your food as you finish cooking them. You are only provided a few stoves and serving counters at first, but you get to unlock more as you get to the higher levels.

Levelling up

Each unlocked dish has its own equivalent total of cafe points while it is being prepared and served. The longer it takes to cook, the higher the cafe points you'll get. TIP: Choose to cook menu items that takes longer to cook versus the ones that you can serve quickly. They are worth more gold coins, they don't spoil as fast and they are available in more servings. So they are definitely worth the wait.

You can also add neighbors to your cafe and visit them each day for extra cafe points and gold coins.

Everytime you cook a dish, at times you'll get an alert informing you that you've cooked too much portions of the dish. You can choose to publish this on your Facebook wall and they will be available to your friends as gifts. At the same time, you can also get extra dishes from your friends. TIP: While waiting for your own dishes to cook, you can serve up these gifts for the meantime. Try to hoard as much as you can. Choose a filter on the live feed in Facebook for Cafe World so that you can easily the extra dishes that your friends have cooked up. Open each gift in separate tabs. You just need to use one tab to open the game and you'll see that the gifts are now in your inventory. However, if you see the gifts in the notifications page, you'd have to accept each one individually.

CW3 By default, you can view all the available dishes for all levels in the Menu tab. What's nice about the game is, they constantly add new dishes every game update. TIP: Try to leave one stove dedicated to short time dishes. Although some dishes cook faster, the extra portions will also be generated into your gifts inventory.

Buzz Rating

The higher the rating of your cafe, more and more people will walk in and taste your dishes. The highest buzz rating so far is 105. Regardless of at what point you log out of the game, your buzz rating freezes when you're offline. TIP: Try to maintain a buzz rating of above 90, so that you can earn enough gold points.

There are certain achievements in the game that you can get by way of awards. Awards are rewarded a medal, cafe points and gold coins. You can publish each award on your wall and your friends can benefit from these as well.

Furniture Layout

The number of people that you can serve will depend on how big your cafe is. You can purchase cafe expansions once you've garnered enough gold coins. Try to work in a layout where your waiters can easily serve your customers and your cook will not have to walk far to serve the dishes on the serving counters. TIP: Try to locate your serving counters in the middle and surround it with dining tables. This way your waiter won't have to walk far and your customers won't walk out and give you a negative on your buzz rating. Take note also that there are no blocked paths. Each pathway requires one block of tile.

Happy cooking! Don't resolve to cheat engines, they take the fun away in playing.

Project 365 tips

I've recently started a photo-a-day project more popularly known as Project 365. To showcase my photos, I've chosen Tumblr as my blogging platform. You can view my Project 365 here. Posting a photo a day for a year can be a daunting task especially when there are days that you run out of ideas. I started mine promptly on the New Year but you can start this photo project any day of the year. The following are my tips on seeing this project through to the end of the year.

Be alert. Be on the lookout for spontaneous shots. It's best to be able to see the world in frames. You'll never know when at any given time of the day that a great shot might be available to you. It's best to be able to train yourself to recognize a great shot when you see one.

Bring your camera with you always. This is very important, you wouldn't want to be caught wanting to shoot something and not having your camera with you. Plus remember to charge your batteries or at least have an extra pack handy.

Post memories. You would want to look back at your project and be able to see special memories in your "photoline." So it's important to reserve a special shot if you know you're going to have an event.

Shoot with themes. To keep your photos interesting, you might want to try posting photos for a week with a theme. Like flower macro shots in one week and toy photography the next.

Create a list. Write down ideas for your project. Planning ahead helps give you a sense of direction over what to post in the coming days.

Try not to get backlogged. I make it a point to post a photo within the day itself and not let it lapse. Getting backlogged makes you lazy and sometimes becomes a nasty habit. Backlogs also promote unnecessary "filler" photos and you don't want those.

Have fun. Remember this is not a chore but a very creative project.

Body Flavors: Eco-friendly treats for your skin

IMG_0319 As an added treat at the Blog4Reviews party that I attended last December, we were given gift packs from Body Flavors. I have always been a fan of handmade and natural soaps. After trying the product, I can now say that it is one of the best organic soaps in the Philippines.

Here's why:

It's 100% natural. It only uses organic ingredients and no chemicals that can be harmful to our bodies. Therefore it is very safe for our skin, although the results won't be seen as fast as chemically-loaded soaps, they're just as effective.

It's Virgin Coconut Oil-based. I think this is what sets it apart from other eco-friendly soaps available in the market. VCO is not only proven beneficial on food but is found to have anti-aging properties as well.

It's Eco-friendly. Being made of natural materials, it is also very safe for the environment and this also goes for the humble packaging that it comes in.

One thing I've also noticed with Body Flavor soaps is that it doesn't melt easily unlike other handmade soaps I've tried. The smell is also not overpowering. The Body Flavors product line is available in different flavors, each with it's own special properties. The available variety enforces its selling point as one of the effective organic soaps in the market today.

Body Flavors Body Bars include:

Orange Papaya with Squalene - Php 150 for exfoliating and whitening

Pure Virgin Coconut Oil and Gugo Bark - Php 100 anti-aging and moisturizing

Seaweed and Molasses with Tea Tree - Php 100 smoothening and firming

Guava and Orange - Php 100 detoxifying and cleansing, also for treating skin problems

More than just markers

10420-01-0 We've lived here at our house for 17 years and every time we get our house repainted we tend to forget to replace our home address plaques. This makes the life of the postman just a little bit difficult and our mail gets lost with the neighbors at times. My mom gets really irritated especially if we lost some bills.

Come to think of it, since coming here, the neighborhood could use a little bit of a facelift too. It could use new plantscaping and new address signs. Don't get me wrong, I love it here. The air is definitely fresher than in the city plus we know most of the people around here.

This reminds me of the time I went running with my parents around the whole subdivision. I never knew a lot of the people here went out for morning runs too. It was fun saying hello to people while we had 3 beagles running alongside us. It definitely won't be the last.

Soon to be released in IMAX theaters, Where the Wild Things Are is directed by Spike Jonze based from the popular book by Maurice Sendak.

The film tells the story of Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy who feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions.

The Wild Things desperately long for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule.  When Max is crowned king, he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy. Max soon finds, though, that ruling his kingdom is not so easy and his relationships there prove to be more complicated than he originally thought.

The deal with mood rings

pretty-mood-ring I was watching The Happening the other night and Mark Wahlberg's character mentioned something about mood rings and it got me curious on how they work. After a little research, here's what I found out.

Mood rings became all the rage in the 1970s but still come back every now and then as a fad. The stone set in the ring is supposedly able to show your mood when it changes its color. The stone is not actually a stone but a hollow glass shell filled with thermotropic liquid crystals, they react to the subtle changes in temperature of our body. The change in temperature causes the crystals to twist in different ways and directions that causes it to absorb a different wave in the color spectrum. Thus reflecting the "mood" color that your body projects.

Here's the color range according to temperature and the corresponding mood it suggests:

  • Dark blue: Happy, romantic or passionate
  • Blue: Calm or relaxed
  • Blue-green: Somewhat relaxed
  • Green: Normal or average
  • Amber: A little nervous or anxious
  • Gray: Very nervous or anxious
  • Black: Stressed, tense or feeling harried

The Blind Side: a review

The ideal left tackle is big… He is wide in the butt and massive in the thighs. He has long arms, giant hands, and feet as quick as a hiccup. This is a rare and expensive combination, the need for which can be traced to that Monday night game and Lawrence Taylor. For on that day, he not only altered Joe Theismann’s life but mine as well.

..the left tackle protects what the quarterback cannot see...his blind side.

Leigh Anne Tuohy in “The Blind Side”

The_Blind_Side_Movie_Poster These were the opening words that we heard as clips were being shown during the opening credits of the movie and it explained fully what the title was about especially for non-football enthusiasts like me. The Blind Side was based from the real-life story of football star, Michael Oher and was first published in the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis. What started out as an article for football coaches, turned into a book and had now been produced in a movie. The movie is not just about Michael Oher, but also about Tuohy family and how in one chance passing and a generous act of kindness, changed the course of their lives forever.

The story really begins when Leigh Anne Tuohy (played by Sandra Bullock), sees Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) walking in just a shirt and shorts towards the school gym one cold winter night. She took pity on "Big Mike" and offered him a night's rest in her home. One act of kindness followed another, and soon the Tuohy's began to accept Mike as part of their family despite their racial differences. With the Tuohy's help, Mike learned to do well in school eventually leading to him realizing his sports prowess in the field of football. He didn't do well at first but he was built for it. After rigorous training by the adorable SJ (Jae Head), his little brother, he began to understand how his protective instincts can greatly benefit his teammates.

This team is your family and you have to protect them…

Tony is your quarterback. You protect his blind side.

When you look at him think of me. How you have my back.

The Characters

THE BLIND SIDE Photo Credit: Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures Caption: SANDRA BULLOCK as Leigh Anne Tuohy in Alcon Entertainment's drama “The Blind Side,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

The driving force in the course of everyone's lives is Leigh Anne Tuohy. She has been described as a "formidable character" by most of the cast. Sandra Bullock did a great job portraying her and she rightly deserves the award she got from it. She is backed by a loving husband, Sean (Tim McGraw) who lets her get her way most of the time but it is undeniable that he is the glue that holds the family together. The story of course revolves around Michael Oher (Quintin Aaron). Despite his appearance, his big built and awkward stance, his kind eyes and quiet manner leaves you to think that there is something so much more. His inspiring story is one that is still unfolding even today.

Collins Tuohy (Lily Collins) is the timid counterpart of her mother but is also into sports as well. Being raised well, she isn't easily swayed by peer pressure or critiques from her friends with her having an adopted brother. SJ Tuohy (Jae Head) is the little kid who has big dreams and big aspirations for Big Mike. He has unconditional bond with his brother and his crazy antics will surely make the audiences fall in love with him. Miss Sue (Kathy Bates) was hired as Mike's tutor when he needed to get his grade point average up. She was there not only as his mentor but a great advisor as well.

Hidden Gems

SEC coaches were invited to make cameos to play themselves when Mike was being recruited for college football. The coaches appearing in the film are: Nick Saban, formerly of LSU and now at Alabama; Tommy Tuberville, formerly of Auburn; Houston Nutt, formerly of Arkansas and now at Ole Miss; Phil Fulmer, formerly of Tennessee; Ed Orgeron, formerly of Ole Miss and now an assistant head coach at Tennessee; and the legendary Lou Holtz, formerly of South Carolina.

At the end, video clips and the pictures of the real Michael Oher marks the start of the end credits. It's heartwarming to see the real people portrayed in the movie, the perfect icing on the cake.

What I love about it

The Blind side is not only about being inspired by the triumph and struggles of Michael Oher, it's also about the incomparable kindness and generosity of the Tuohy's. More than that, I think it's also about the blind faith that Mrs. Tuohy had set as an example, blind faith in the goodness of people. She took in Mike into her home out of the goodness of her heart because it was the right thing to do. How many people would do the exact same thing now? No matter how evil the world gets, it still is amazing to see little beacons of hope and goodness shining through. The Tuohy's are a one of a kind family and Mike Oher was very lucky that they found him. The Tuohy's on the other hand, were changed the moment Mike stepped into their lives. It worked out well for everyone, this kind of happy ending is rare and yet it is as real as it gets. When more people are like this, I think the world will be a much a happier place.

Experience the Thrill of the Trail

The health benefits of running include improved cardiovascular health, weight loss, increased bone density, improved muscle mass and a generally better emotional disposition. Some say it also slows down aging. Running as a sport however is a test of endurance. Marathon races are often joined in by amateur and professional endurance athletes and runners alike.

The Thrill of the Trail is one such race. Going on its third year now, the running series this year is going to be held at Nuvali, Laguna. The run indeed should be preceded by rigorous training and a background on trail running. The said event is sponsored by The North Face. They are also the folks responsible for The North Face 100 Trail Running Ultra Marathon series which spans 5 countries in Asia namely, Australia, China, Philippines, Japan and Taiwan.

Teaser 18in x 24in_2The Thrill of the Trail NUVALI aims to further promote trail running in the Philippines. The campaign has already been started on initial legs done in Nasugbu, Batangas and Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao. Also currently in the line up is Bohol, Visayas.

As an added twist and fun factor, this year's Thrill of the Trail will also host an 11K couple's category. The special category will require the couples to finish the line together while holding hands, to celebrate the love and very timely on Valentine's Day. Now wouldn’t that be a sight to see. The couples category is open with no gender restrictions.

For most endurance athletes, the Thrill of the Trail is a preparation for the extreme North Face 100 Trail Running Ultra Marathon. If you’re an endurance athlete or have been joining in on race marathons, this is one event you shouldn’t miss. You can register and get more details on the said event on the Thrill of the Trail official site and by joining in on the Thrill of the Trail Facebook fan page.

Been wanting to browse online Classified Ads and found just a few? Well, OLX has recently entered as a new player in the scene, boasting a much cleaner, stress-free interface. You can typically find what you need by the numerous categories provided directly on the homepage. There are a lot of items here and you're sure to lose track of time browsing category after category. You can use target browsing to make your searches easier, for example if you need to look for For Sale cars in Makati or cars in Manila, you just need to input the specific location at the left side panel and you're all set. If you're an advertiser looking to sell your product or offer your professional services, you just need to register and confirm via email and you're all set.

I didn't have anything to sell at the moment but I do offer freelance services for my interior designs, so that's what I did, I signed up and posted an ad for interior designing. Posting an ad was a breeze. There wasn't a lengthy form just the key elements needed. Here's my ad posted on the site.

2010 Checklist

checklist This year's belle de jour planner came in with a few new features. The 2010 checklist is one of them. It's a list of 100 suggested things to do for the entire year. My goal is to accomplish 90% of it at least. Why just 90% you ask? Well, some items on it may just take a bit more time and not to mention money to accomplish.

I would like to share with you my progress and I'm going to create a separate category for it. Wish me luck!

First batch of tasks out:

Organize my closet

This was part of my to-do list at the start of the year. I've cleaned it out, gave some of my clothes away and made some space for a whole new wardrobe. Whoopie!

Watch cartoons.

photo_12_hires This one's pretty easy. I haven't given up watching cartoons. The last cartoon I watched was a re-run of Hey! Arnold on Nickelodeon last night.

Faithfully keep a grateful journal where I'd list down things I'd be thankful for.

I've recently blogged about posting some positive thoughts to keep the negativity away. For this task, my grateful journal will be hosted at and synced to show up with my tweets.

Ok that's 3 down and 97 more tasks to go.
