Halloween for Facebook Games

Sunday, October 31, 2010 , , 0 Comments

There are a lot of games in Facebook and I’m playing quite a few of them, but there’s only a handful that I’ve stuck to ever since I got the account. It’s nice that the developers take time to incorporate the Halloween spirit into the games’ theme and gameplay.

Here are some that are worthy mentions:

One of the first games I’ve ever played and currently enjoying their Trick and Treat.

MH halloween mice 1MH pummeler trapAfter several days of hunting in the new area, I’ve finally crafted a new Limited Edition trap called the Pummeler. The upgraded version is pretty expensive to make so I’m delaying making that.

Cafe World

There are a lot of Halloween-related missions out, plus a whole load of Halloween decor too. It’s also nice to note that there are also Halloween-themed dishes to go with the holiday too. The only downside is, there’s too much that you need to do and at so little time. I’m having a hard time fulfilling the missions as it is but hopefully we’ll get an extension for it.

Pet Society

Of course, Pet Society has all kinds of Halloween goodies. I especially loved the mystery box that you can buy with a surprise Halloween costume inside. Here’s what my pet got.

Halloween decor also abound but since I’m too lazy to tweak the decor at my pet’s house because I’m already content with it, I visit my friends’ homes instead.

Make Me Zombie

True to the spirit of Halloween, I saw the article for this site and decided to give it a try. Make Me Zombie. What does it do? It turns you into a zombie. No no, don’t go run around scared, I was kidding. It just zombifies your photo. It’s just a three step process:

  • Upload you photo into the site.
  • Wait for it to be zombiefied.
  • Save and share with friends.

Here’s me zombified:

zombify I look pretty scary!!!! Haha.

Try it out for yourself. TURN YOURSELF INTO A ZOMBIE.

Gadget Want: Nook Color

Sunday, October 31, 2010 0 Comments

I have a lot of e-books. I don't mean a handful. I mean A LOT. So if there's one gadget that I would want (for Christmas or for my birthday) an e-book reader would be it. Sure my HTC Desire also does the job but nothing would beat a reader that's big enough and yet also portable enough for me to carry anywhere I go. Before, the Kindle was high on my wish list but then the Nook Color comes around and well, you know that it's now on the top spot.

nook color Barnes & Noble's Nook Color beats the Kindle by having a high resolution monitor which displays your e-books in full-color. It certainly beats reading in black and white especially if the book contains illustrations. It also has wifi capabilities (802.11b/g/n)  and has Facebook and Twitter integration. Imagine a reader and a tablet merged into one. It runs on Android OS and is pegged at a price of $249.

nook-color-press-horizontaljamberry-rm-eng I'm just not too crazy about the gunmetal casing color though, but a skin might fix just that.

Rugs: Dress up your Floors

Sunday, October 31, 2010 , 0 Comments

At work, when designing for residential interiors particularly the living room/area, I have to give a moment's thought into what specific accessories fit a certain kind of design style. One thing that's often overlooked is the floor treatment. Somehow a living room or a bedroom doesn't seem complete without area rugs. The bare tile floor or even wood planks would look prettier and more finished with an area rug sprawled on it.

What is an area rug by the way? Most people have it confused with carpet floors. An area rug just covers a portion of your floor space, often right within a seating arrangement or in bedrooms, they are often placed at the foot of the bed. Personally, I don’t go for animal skin rugs, real of faux. Square, rectangular, circular, oval or custom-shaped will do.

Most designers make the safe bet and go for something plain, solid-colored and something that would blend well and most likely go unnoticed. But I think, rugs can make a very profound style statement. Think about this for a moment, imagine an all-white or neutrally-colored living room with no distinct color accents. It would have looked pristine and immaculately clean.

My picks

But for me, I would love to have some color splashed into that space. An area rug could do just that. Some people think that area rugs are expensive. So the next option, if you're on a tight budget would be discount rugs. The Area Rugs Now website offers a whole range of rugs that you can totally dress up your floors with. The site has a simple interface enough where you can browse rugs upon rugs to your heart's content. Just on the initial search and I've already found a few that would be perfect for a contemporary home.

For your rug design needs, don't hesitate to browse the site now.

Tron Night

Friday, October 29, 2010 , 1 Comments

I was one of the bloggers invited for Tron Night. Tron Night is a worldwide event specifically organized for the exclusive preview of 20 minutes of the upcoming movie Tron: Legacy. Remember that they had this for James Cameron’s Avatar also before. So right after work, I rushed over to the IMAX theater of SM North Edsa for this event.

The event was catered by PB & Co, and might I just add that I’ve rekindled my liking for peanut butter. The food was unique and sooo good. I especially loved the Black Forest Sandwich.

We took our time posing with the dude dressed as a program and was delighted that his costume actually glowed when photographed with a flash. After a short program prepared by the hosts, we entered the cinema and were given glow sticks. Haha I felt like a little kid.

tron pageThe 20 minutes was well worth it. I am now joining the ranks of the people eagerly anticipating the opening weekend for Tron: Legacy. The visual effects was simply amazing and of course a must-see in 3d. It’s looking to have a deep storyline as well. Now I really must see the first movie in order to brush up on what happened years before. So there, don’t forget this December, add Tron: Legacy on your list of movies to see for the holidays.

The PlayStation Phone..hmm not quite sold on it

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 2 Comments

Signing into my YM today, my friend Vince Haoson passed a link opening to a picture of the PlayStation phone. The prototype looks like this…

500x_playstation_phoneI like the look of the phone EXCEPT the controller that slides out. Hmm yeah it looks kinda retro but it doesn’t mesh well with the sleek phone design. It’s rumored to be the exact one that’s due on the market soon. I wonder how the design board felt about this. I’ve already read some negative reactions on how it looks but “specs-wise”, the phone fares well with the current models out there. I sure hope they hear out the initial reactions from this prototype and improve if not, tweak something drastically with that controller design.

November is bringing The Deathly Hallows Part 1

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 0 Comments

..and Harry Potter of course. We’re on the latter part of October and November is just around the corner. So that means the opening date for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows is looming ever closer. Start the countdown for November 18!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction—the Horcruxes. On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Professor Dumbledore, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever. But there are Dark Forces in their midst that threaten to tear them apart.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1Meanwhile, the wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark Lord. The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort’s Death Eaters seize control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting anyone who might oppose them. But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter. The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort…alive.

Harry’s only hope is to find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds him. But as he searches for clues, he uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale—the legend of the Deathly Hallows. And if the legend turns out to be true, it could give Voldemort the ultimate power he seeks.

Little does Harry know that his future has already been decided by his past when, on that fateful day, he became “the Boy Who Lived.” No longer just a boy, Harry Potter is drawing ever closer to the task for which he has been preparing since the day he first stepped into Hogwarts: the ultimate battle with Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

I can’t wait to see the adventure again in 3d. Harry Potter fans all over the world must have already marked the date on their calendars and pretty soon, the Harry Potter mania will start again. Don’t get left behind.

Easy A

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 0 Comments

While reading through the synopsis for what the Movie A is all about, I can’t help but see vivid images of school corridors, jam-packed classes and colorful dances with made-up and well-dressed pretty girls. Well at least, that’s what an image of high school/college life is in the movies. Let’s see if Easy A will stand out from movies like that.

911160 - EASY A

In Columbia Pictures’ new critically acclaimed comedy “Easy A,” Olive Penderghast was a typical American high school girl, until she decided to be, well, A-typical.

“Easy A” stars Emma Stone (recently cast as Gwen Stacy in the “Spider-Man” 2012 reboot) as Olive, Penn Badgley (TV’s “Gossip Girl”), Amanda Bynes (“What a Girl Wants”), Cam Gigandet (“Twilight”) and Aly Michalka (TV’s “Hellcats”). The film is directed by Will Gluck (“Fired Up”) from a screenplay by Bert V. Royal.

What’s your average, everyday girl to do when her popular, detail-seeking best friend Rhiannon (Michalka) wants the lowdown on Olive’s weekend, and the boring reality is nothing to brag about? Can’t a non-entity, a perceived zero, an anonymous girl like Olive tell a little white lie if it gives her just a tiny taste of that magical prize sought by every teenager: popularity?

Some status updates, however, just cannot be contained, especially when Marianne (Bynes), Ojai High School’s very own Tammy Faye Bakker, overhears Olive’s words. Soon, rumors of Olive’s promiscuity are being greatly exaggerated.

911160 - EASY A

Within minutes, the student body is all a-twitter, linked-in and face-booked over Olive’s supposed indiscretions. While it’s not necessarily the kind of notoriety Olive was looking for, becoming the center of attention proves to be tantalizingly addictive, so much so that Olive decides not to deny the rumors. In fact, she embraces them, further playing the part by sporting a sexy new look and biting new attitude. After all, she knows the real truth, and her non-judgmental parents (Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson) trust her. So she’s not really hurting anyone, is she?

Sure, her favorite English teacher Mr. Griffith (Thomas Haden Church) feels the need to express his well-meaning concern, while his wife, the school guidance counselor (Lisa Kudrow), offers her own brand of advice and protection. But the spotlight feels pretty good to Olive, who even devises a creative use of her newfound reputation to help some of her status-challenged fellow students, including fellow peer pressure victim Brandon (Dan Byrd).

As her story continues to mutate and take on a life of its own, Olive can’t help but begin to identify with the notorious plight of the classic literary character Hester Prynne from “The Scarlet Letter,” the book she just happens to be studying in Mr. Griffith’s class.

But when Olive begins losing control of the raging rumors, she finds it’s not all that easy to put out a wildfire. Unless she’s able to clear things up, other people’s lives are going to suffer greatly as a consequence.

“Easy” does it, Olive.

911160 - EASY A It looks to be bubble-gum fun. The story seems to be fun and at a level that we can all relate to at some point especially since it’s inclined to the techy generation. So we’ll see.

I am Number Four

Wednesday, October 27, 2010 0 Comments

You’ll probably recognize Dianna Agron as cheerleader Quinn on the famous TV musical series Glee, now we’ll get to see her on the big screen with the Dreamworks and Disney collaboration “I am Number Four.”

The action packed thriller revolves around an extraordinary young man, John Smith (Alex Pettyfer), who is a fugitive on the run from ruthless enemies sent to destroy him. Changing his identity, moving from town to town with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant), John is always the new kid with no ties to his past. In the small Ohio town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected, life-changing events—his first love (Dianna Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to the others who share his incredible destiny.

The film also stars Teresa Palmer, Kevin Durand and Callan McAuliffe. Produced by Michael Bay, the film is written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar and Marti Noxon based from the book by Pittacus Lore.

I Love Pop-Up Books esp. this one!

Sunday, October 24, 2010 , 0 Comments

I’ve always been a fan of them and I’ve tried to make one but it’s hard!! It takes a lot of imagination and some serious skills in order to make a really good one. When I was a kid, I didn’t get any pop-up books even as a gift. They would give me toys, dolls and other books but I never got a pop-up. Maybe this explains why I’m so fascinated by them now. There are a few out there that’s really good. One in particular is the book made by a French artist named Benjamin Lacombe and Jose Pons for the pop-up construction. Check it out (the book is in French though but it doesn’t matter because the books are popular fairytales anyway).

Check out a video of it too. The book is composed of the fairy tales: Alice In Wonderland, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Bluebeard, Peter Pan, Little Red Riding Hood, Madame Butterfly, and Thumbelina.

Whoopie Cravings Once More

Sunday, October 24, 2010 0 Comments

34427_446078832371_133561382371_5246571_2798840_n When Eithel of 8Twists Boutique Bakery asked me to review her latest pastry creation, I was ecstatic. I've already had a taste of her concoctions during the time she joined OAP Ultimate Taste Test. So I was eager to taste these delicious treats.

A whoopie pie is like a sandwich, but made with two soft cookies with a fluffy white filling. It is a cross between a cake and a cookie, with the original and most common flavor being chocolate. Traditionally the size of a small burger, it is more portable than a cupcake and has better icing to cake ratio.

They were called as such because Amish women used to pack these into their children's lunch boxes and when they opened them, they'd exclaim "whoopie!".

IMG_0003 8Twists version of Gourmet Whoopie Pies has 6 flavors:

Classic Vanilla- Moist chocolate whoopies filled with vanilla fluff

Classic Mint- For those who love the combination of chocolate and mint, chocolate whoopies filled with mint fluff

Boston Cream- Our version of the boston cream pie. Milk whoopies filled with a rich custard and dipped in milk chocolate

Ube Macapuno- Uniquely Filipino. Ube whoopies filled with whipped cream and sweetened macapuno

Oatmeal Apple- It’s like eating apple crumble without the crumbly mess. Oatmeal whoopies filled with chunky apple cinnamon cream

Coffee-glazed Vanilla- Milky whoopies filled with vanilla fluff and iced with a coffee glaze

IMG_0005 IMG_0006

I took home my box of samples and I have to confess that before it reached the refrigerator to be stored, I already ate one. :) Looking at them I thought for sure that they would be too sweet. Surprise, surprise! They weren't. The sweetness wasn't overpowering and the pies were soft and moist. Of the samples, my favorites were Classic Mint, Boston Cream and Coffee-glazed Vanilla. It's very hard to choose which one stands out the most, I guess this goes in one's own taste preferences but I guarantee that you'll love them all.

8Twists deliver for a minimum order of two boxes, plus delivery charge depending upon the customer's location. Orders may also be picked up from Blur Ridge QC.

Mousehunt Trick and Treat

Thursday, October 21, 2010 0 Comments

There’s a new hunting playground for Mouse Hunters, The Haunted Terrortories of Gnawnia.

haunted territory You would need two kinds of cheese to hunt the mice here. The Ghoulgonzola and the Candy corn cheese. The Ghoulgonzola is used to “trick” mice and the Candy corn is used to “treat” them.

ghoulgonzola candy corn

You can get these by visiting your friends’ profiles. Now depending on how they’ve set their profiles to either “trick” or “treat”, that’s the kind of loot that you’re going to get.

For example, my profile is set to “trick”.

trick profile

So this means people who visit my profile will get one kind of cheese. You can visit up to 10 of your friends a day and get that much loot.

friend page

Just click on the Trick or Treat button.  treatYou’ll then see a pop-up window of the kind of loot you got from that friend. Just keep on clicking the “Visit another friend” button until you’re done for the day.

buttons  When you’ve gotten enough cheese, travel to the Haunted Terrortories of Gnawnia. You’ll then notice a progress bar on your MH app page.

progress bar The bars will get filled with each successful hunt and it will let your progress to the next part of the maze. I’m guessing a Shadow trap is best for this location.

So there, exciting new mice and loot awaits us in the new hunting ground. They say there are powerful shadow traps that can be crafted from the loot, so the race is on I guess to reveal what it is. For now, happy haunting!
