Getting a Digiperm at Beauty Brick Hair Art Studio
I’ve been wanting to give myself a make-over for a long time now. I’ve had my heart set on getting my hair some waves or curls and always at the last minute I’d chicken out. I didn’t know if the look was right for me or not. I even grew my hair very long last year (up to the middle of my back!) just so I could get long gorgeous curls. It wasn’t the right time though.

Last Saturday however, I finally got the courage. After some careful research on some reviews of some bloggers and peers who have had digi-perms in the past, come Saturday morning I was driving towards Beauty Brick Hair and Art Studio. However, last Saturday was such a rainy day and I failed to take a photo of the salon’s facade. Note: If you’re going there with a car, opt to park at the pay parking of the Solid building right across or if there are any parking spaces left at the Dona Consolacion Building. They DO have a basement parking but they’d want you to go down the ramp in reverse. That scared me, so I just parked across.
Upon entering Beauty Brick, I was greeted by a chorus of polite hello’s and good mornings. If you’re going there on a Saturday, it is best to go there with an appointment since Saturday is their busiest day. I was ushered to where the shampooing section was and since I didn’t bring any photos to show Mr. Shin, I just chose a picture from one of the binders that they had. Mr. Shin is the stylist at Beauty Brick, he speaks Japanese and doesn’t speak any English or Tagalog. So the whole time that I was choosing which look that I wanted, there was an interpreter beside me.
The whole digital perming process took only 3 hours and it wasn’t painful nor did it involve any bad-smelling chemicals. My experience at the salon was divine. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. I was attended to by assistants sometimes 3 at a time. They had timers to make sure that each process wasn’t overdone. Plus the main thing that I liked about the experience was Mr. Shin personally did my haircut, he attached the curlers on my hair and he oversaw all the solutions being placed in it.
The interiors of the salon was very minimal. I love the big yellow bear brick standing guard at the entrance of the salon. It was mostly white but accented with black graphics on the wall and a red accent on the costumer’s lounge area.

Would I go back again to Beauty Brick? Hell yeah! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get touchable curls too. Mine turned out great! It was at a price that doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket too - only Php 3300.00 (all-in plus the haircut) That was even less than the cost of my rebond last year. This makeover was definitely worth it.
Me and my curls. Over the next few days, the curls will loosen up naturally. I heard that maintaining digitally curled hair can be daunting, so let’s see. I hope I can keep my hair this beautiful always.

With the cast now complete, anticipation is surely building up for the release of the Hunger Games movie which is based on the highly successful Hunger Games Book Trilogy series. While at first, the casting was met with mixed comments of good and bad, now that they’ve released the teaser still from the production…well, let’s just say it’s getting everyone all sorts of excited.

Reasons why I want to see Crazy, Stupid Love
Sunday, July 31, 2011 Movies 0 Comments
Love...let’s just say that for a four-letter word, it holds a deep multitude of meanings. It’s what most people search or yearn for their whole lives. Consider yourself lucky if you’ve come across its gratifying and at the same time intoxicating power. We all know how it can make even the smartest and responsible people act really crazy and stupid. For an emotion that everyone can relate to, it’s no wonder that most movies are centered around this theme. For all its good and bad effects on people, it is still a force to be reckoned with AND we can’t help but get addicted to it.
Crazy, Stupid Love is no exception. It stars Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone. The latest romantic comedy from Warner Bros. promises a light-hearted and yet emotional journey in which we discover the different facets of people in-love.
What is the movie all about?
At fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Carell) is living the dream—good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth.
Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Gosling). In an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or The Gap.
Cal and Emily aren’t the only ones looking for love in what might be all the wrong places: Cal’s 13-year-old son, Robbie (Jonah Bobo), is crazy about his 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica (Stone), who harbors a crush on Cal. But despite Cal’s makeover and his many new conquests, the one thing that can’t be made over is his heart, which seems to keep leading him back to where he began.
Why I want to see it?
So far, I’ve loved all the movies I’ve seen of him. He’s extremely funny. He’s gifted with the talent of being one of those comedians who can keep a stern face and yet still be hilarious.
The last and probably the only movie I’ve seen of him is The Notebook. He looks so much different now. Based from the trailer, his character exudes the kind of confidence and charm that only players can pull off, I’m eager to see how he’ll be playing this role. For me he looks too much of a goody-two shoes than a player. So we’ll see.
She’s a pretty powerful actress and she has a lot of high-profile movies on her belt. An example of how versatile she is, is seen in the trailer when she’s crying her eyes out but saying something extremely funny too. It’s amusing to see a serious actress like her trying her hand in comedy.
Oh I loved her in Easy A and the House Bunny. She’s blessed with a unique kind of beauty and charm that captivates audiences without coming across as trying too hard. She kinda reminds me of Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. I love her kind of acting and it’s very endearing to watch on the big screen. I’m excited that she’s in this movie.
Crazy, Stupid Love is coming soon in theaters nationwide.
Craig & Ford take on aliens together in Cowboys and Aliens
Saturday, July 30, 2011 Movies 0 Comments
In a look that is reminiscent of his days playing Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford is Woodrow Dolarhydein in Cowboys and Aliens. Jon Favreau saw that he was perfect to play the role. Woodrow’s character runs the town of Absolution which under mysterious circumstances is being attacked by aliens. He’s described as a tyrant, cruel and brutal and obsessed with finding out who stole his gold. One bit of trivia: Ford was skeptical about taking the role but after being shown storyboard sketches and how Jon Favreau was trying to create something new, he eventually gave in.
Daniel Craig has played very manly roles in the past and being cast as Jake Lonergan is no different. It was his good looks and scruffy manner that made him the perfect choice for an inspired casting by Jon Favreau. Jake wanders into the town of Absolution just in time to save it from annihilation. In the trailers, we see him firing off a cool looking wrist weapon towards a spaceship, that’s what you can see in the picture below. I’m curious to see how he’ll be able to save the day and how he’ll fare acting opposite Harrison Ford.
Cowboys and Aliens is distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp. and will be showing soon in theaters.
Paper Eyelashes - Fashion do or don't?
Friday, July 29, 2011 Beauty Fashion and Health 0 Comments
I think it was a couple of years ago when the trend for longer false eyelashes swept women and girls alike who were wanting doll-like eyes. Doll-like eyes were considered to be prettier and more charming.
Paperself seeks to revive this trend by creating a very unique line of lashes. By me saying it is unique is an understatement, honestly I think it's an artform in itself. The idea is brilliant, but practically though, I'm having second thoughts about it.
The lashes have different themes and designs using a papercut technique. The lashes were designed by Taiwanese designer Ting yu Wang. Seeing the designs however, one must quell the urge to rub ones eyes when these are on (ouch!). For sensitive eyes like mine, I don't think I would try putting one of these on but they are indeed very nice to look at.
The cast of Sex and the City 3
I'm a big fan of the series. I've watched through the entire seasons and have watched the two movies more times than I care to count. Although yes, the second movie wasn't as great as the first one (which reduced me to tears), I still loved it.
I was surprised when they announced a third installment for the Sex and the City Franchise and more so, when it was also confirmed that the original foursome won't be in it. Arguably the third movie will be based on the Carrie Diaries, featuring a younger Carrie and friends. Naturally, this called for a younger cast.
Do you think they'd be able to pull it off?
Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie Bradshaw (yes she’s related to Mary Kate and Ashley)
Emma Roberts as Miranda Hobbes
Selena Gomez as Charlotte York
Blake Lively as Samantha Jones
The Walking Dead Season 2 Trailer
Thursday, July 28, 2011 Entertainment 0 Comments
More zombie goodness to come and I just feel chills after watching this trailer for the Season 2 of The Walking Dead. The first seasons was GOOD!! This one looks to be even better. I CAN’T WAIT!
First Look at the Men of Hunger Games
That's Liam Hemsworth as Gale on the left and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta on the right. Notably, they've both dyed their hair to look more like their character counterparts. I think Josh is looking more like Peeta this time. I think I could see him now as the buff baker's son. What do you think?
Livejournal suffers a DDoS attack again
Thursday, July 28, 2011 Computers Gadgets Technology 0 Comments
For several days now, I've been having trouble posting to my Livejournal blog. Sometimes I can log in but I can't use the features of the site. Then there are times that I have to keep pressing the refresh buttons because the pages don't fully load. Sometimes you can post entries and at certain times of the day, you can't. It got really frustrating last night. I've decided to open an LJ account again two years ago as a reservoir of my personal thoughts and experiences and I even went ahead and bought a paid account for myself. It's bad that there were no update emails from the devs (they usually gave updates before) until I searched for the cause of all the trouble and by chance found this.
So it was another DDos attack. This happened also around March and that time it was also a fiasco. Would you believe that there is an extremely vast LJ community? 15M posts are published there each day. So you can just imagine the collective frustrated faces in front of their PCs as they (including me) tried desperately to post entries. A DDos attack stands for distributed denial of service attack. According to wikipedia:
an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.
I like Livejournal. I left before because their site was loading very slow but now they've gotten that fixed and I've been writing religiously there everyday since 2009. I like that you can post locked entries that only selected trusted friends (who have LJ accounts) can read.
The other appealing features of LJ to me are the mood icons that you can choose for each post which displays what mood you were in at the time of writing. You can also customize avatars per post. I use them to efficiently categorize what my blogpost is all about aside from using tags. Lastly, the community as vast as it is, is very welcoming. Like Vox, I found really good friends in LJ.
So it's really saddening that this is happening to a long-time running site, I'm sure users share my frustrations as well. I really hope that whatever other technical problems they're facing, they get fixed soon.
Ways to love your Job

Get inspired. Sometimes I experience design droughts. It feels like the designs coming out of my head are just the same. So what I do is browse sites that I've bookmarked and then save the pictures of the ones I like then put them into an idea file. Then when I'm in a pickle with a design concept, I just go through this folder quickly. This often does the trick.
Have something to look forward to each day. As shallow as it sounds, I looked forward to my packed lunch. At least I had that thought that I'd be relishing good food on my break. Then there was also the chance of chatting with my friends. It might be counter-productive but it gets me out of bed and into the office. Maybe you could find a similar simple joy too.
Make to-do lists. I confess that I'm a list addict. I tend to plan out my workday into time increments and then turn it into a game. There's nothing more satisfying than crossing off a task in a to-do list.
Challenge yourself. Often being burned out means there's no more thinking process involved and often you just breeze through tasks to get them over with but if you go the extra mile and add something extra to the task by initiative, you'll have more sense of fulfillment towards the end of the day.
Clean out your workstation. I don't know about you but I really despise a cluttered workstation. Clean out the clutter. Even the ones on your desktop. Have few icons on it as possible or organize the files into folders so that they don't clutter up as much. As for your table, chuck out the paper junk and all the items you don't need for work. A clean desk will help you focus on your work more.
Make a good work playlist. Sometimes good music can help you wile the time away. My work music usually consists of songs from the lounge or chill genre. They ease my stress and they help me concentrate more.
Get enough sleep. Enough sleep gives you more energy to tackle the tasks at work. When you lack sleep, it makes you concentrate not on work but on the remaining hours of the work day. This just makes your mind very distracted and not completely focused on what you need to get done.
Consider these upgrades to your PC
Wednesday, July 27, 2011 Computers Gadgets Technology 0 Comments
Saving up for top of the line computer components can be really tough especially if you're currently pinching your pockets for other lifestyle expenses. If you're a gamer at heart this can be a setback. There are so many great games coming out each month and most of these require high-powered PCs. If a one-time computer upgrade is out of the question, consider upgrading components piece by piece instead. Start with the most integral parts first. For me this would be the processor, the mother board, memory and the video card.
For the video card, gamers have the option to try out the Inno3d Gamepack. It promises performance and power for your gaming needs without boring a big hole in your pocket. Interestingly enough, the concept for it's production was the brainchild of a fellow-gamer too so it's safe to conclude that he really knows his stuff.
Another way to squeezing all the possible best performance from your PC is by overclocking. However this opens your CPU setup to heat problems. Although by default, PC components do have a safety feature of turning off when they've reached a temperature threshold, some people choose water cooling instead. Kingston is offering an additional integration to the water-cooling setup.
Here's an excerpt from their product description kit:
When it comes to water cooling there are generally two camps, either only focus on the CPU and GPU, or put everything possible under water. You can read for days on your water cooling forum of choice about people debating the advantages of water cooling the motherboard VRM’s and SouthBridge along with the system DRAM. The first group points to all kinds of benchmarks showing no real performance gains by cooling the motherboard and RAM stating it is all about looks. The second group states that by putting everything under water they remove all heat from the case and therefore help the CPU and GPU run even cooler providing further over clocking headroom. If you are of the mind that you want to put everything under water this Hyper X H2O kit is for you.

We are all Connected–WWF ad
It sickens me sometimes when I hear of reports of how human beings play a vile role in the demise of other living creatures. The recent eye-opener news about the conditions of the animal "attractions" in Manila Zoo is an example. Then from time to time we see features in nature shows showing the different species that are currently in danger of extinction.
Sometimes some people are just ignorant of the repercussions of their actions that are destructive to the animals and the environment. Let me share a video that I just found to you.
It shows how we and the other species of the animal kingdom are connected.
See that? Then to further educate yourself go to this site and see through the interactivity options how you can contribute further. The site is very fun to use and like me, you'll also learn a lot.

From the left will be Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Rufallo (rumored) as Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
The movie is shaping up to be very anticipated by fans all over the world and things are really looking up.
Let's sit down and talk
See? The sofa or couch is the key furniture piece in a living room. It's where conversations happen. It's also where families and large groups of friends share memories that bond them together. This is why the living room is considered one of the most important areas in the home. It's nice to think that it has grown to be such an integral part in our everyday lives.
Here are some tips in choosing the right sofa for your living room:
1. The design of the sofa should fit the design theme of the room. If you want it to become a focal point, make sure that it has a strong unique design that makes it stand out. A sofa having a really bold hue will also achieve this purpose.
2. Make sure to try sitting on the sofa before making your purchase. Your comfort should be considered. What good is a sofa in which everyone wouldn't want to sit?
3. It has to have a sturdy frame. A sofa should last wear and tear especially if there are rowdy kids around who would surely jump on it on certain occasions. A good sofa would be able to withstand such aggressive use.
4. The upholstery that it has should be long-lasting and easy to maintain. For sure there would be accidental stains in the future especially if the sofa will be where guests will sit. They should easily be wiped or cleaned off without costing too much.
Karim Rashid’s Pebble Collection
Monday, July 25, 2011 Arts and Design 0 Comments
Karim Rashid has made a big name for himself in the design world and what I've seen of his works were that they were always vibrant with bright colors and flamboyant in the use of patterns. In some strange way, the blend rather nicely. His touch is truly unique and is his own. He has designed several hotels, offices, homes and eventually ventured out into furniture pieces.
So when I saw that he designed the Pebble Collection for Post-It, it's not surprising that he's now coming up with some designs for stationery as well. The dispensers has the Karim Rashid touch and I like them very much. Take a look.
You may buy the said products HERE.
Beagle Pups – 3 weeks old

Silly me, I fell asleep uploading this video on YouTube and I wanted to have posted this last night. Kayenne’s pups are now three weeks old, very very lively but still without teeth. I imagine they’ll really be a handful when they start to run about and get curious about their surroundings. All seven of them are very healthy and growing up to be fat pups!
Jon Favreau takes on Cowboys and Aliens
Friday, July 22, 2011 Movies 0 Comments
Since I saw the trailer for this film, particularly the one Daniel Craig was shooting down a spaceship with a futuristic wrist laser gun, I was stoked! Just what is the movie about really?
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It’s a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity
and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a
secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella, he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents – townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors – all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown.
There's also the added plus of seeing Harrison Ford again on the big screen. This western sci-fi film will be distributed and released by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp. I can't wait to see it.
Care for some Fruit Pizzas?
Thursday, July 21, 2011 Food Reviews 0 Comments
Ever since I saw that picture of a chocolate pizza, it opened my eyes to the possibilities of just how many and what you can put as toppings on one pizza concoction. There have been weird ones like candy, bacon etc. Nothing poked at my curiosity as seeing these. I assume these are the healthy variants of this tasty food? Well I’m hoping so and I’m extremely curious as to what they taste like.
Just look at all those kiwis and blueberries. It really IS making my mouth water just looking at the picture. You can find the recipe HERE.
Interestingly there’s balsamic on this pizza, so I take it this has a sour taste to it. I’ve never tasted a sour pizza before. [RECIPE]
Now this one looks very very appetizing. I don’t know if it’s just really good photography skills but judging from the size of it, this makes for one good solo snack. [RECIPE]
Google Chrome Themes batch 4
It’s been a while since I’ve browsed for themes at the Chrome Web Store and after a bit of sorting through a lot of great themes, here are my picks:
- The links are from left to right
- หม่อมหลวงจิราธร จิรประวัติ (I couldn’t read this either)
- Yulia Brodskaya (this is the one I’m currently using)
→ ♥ ←
I’ve been thinking for some time now of making my own batch of Google chrome themes and upload it on the chrome store. I do hope I find the time soon to make them and compile them in a post. Although I also read that you’d have to pay Google to have themes hosted on the store. Let’s see, I’ll post some samples here first then find out if there are willing sponsors. Enjoy the themes.
What's the deal with Planking?
Tuesday, July 19, 2011 music and lifestyle 0 Comments
The game of Planking came to my attention when I happened to chance upon seeing a picture of a friend engaging in the activity over on her Facebook gallery. Then a few days, I heard it mentioned on the radio. Just this morning, I saw the same friend post another picture, this time I got very curious. So what is planking anyway?
Planking is the fad term for a lying down game. Yep, you read that right, a lying down gam.e. The objective of the game is to lie perfectly still face-down with your hands on the sides (like a plank) in an unusual location. That person has to have their picture taken while planking and post it on the internet. The more public the place and the more people to witness the activity, the better.
The game was invented by Gary Clarkson and Christian Langdon (according to a wikipedia entry).
Now I've searched for some of the best planking pictures I could gather so that you can see for yourself. What do you think? Would you join this fast-growing fad?
