My Awesome New Tab Page

Friday, June 29, 2012 0 Comments

Since using Google Chrome, I haven’t used any other browser since. A new tab in Chrome lets you view the recent pages you’ve visited or sites that you’ve pinned on the tab. Now I’m much more happy with my tab page since I’ve discovered how to put widget squares on it. My Awesome New Tab Page, lets you bookmark important sites in quick easy steps while providing additional tools to make browsing a breeze. Here’s how my Google Chrome tab page looks like with the application of the ANTP.

Superheroes Re-Imagined as Kids

Friday, June 29, 2012 0 Comments

AndyFairhurst’s Deviant works caught my eye because they reminded me so much of Limbo, a game I’ve just started playing when I bought it with the Humble Indie Game Bundle V released recently.  In this series, Andy re-draw popular superheroes into how he thought they would be like as kids. I love the subtle symbolisms and the humor in each drawing. See if you can recognize the superheroes. (click on the photos for a larger view).

Thursday, June 28, 2012 0 Comments

My favorite day of the week is Friday, well almost everyone else does. Not only does it signify the start of the weekend, it also could mean that day of the week when you can hang out with friends. Here’s another reason to like Fridays more. Head on over to Uncle Cheffy at the Ortigas Center where you can fill your tummies and reward yourself for a productive week AND also listen to live music from Tronix.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower Movie

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 , 0 Comments

After reading such a great book, I’m excited to see it being made into a movie. The movie is being directed by Stephen Chbosky, no other than the author of the book itself so I’m hoping that it will be done right. The movie is spearheaded by Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller. They represent the three core characters of the book – Charlie, Sam and Patrick. The heartfelt story is the story of growing up experiencing high school in all its humiliation, cruelty and joys.

Monsters University Teaser Trailer

Monday, June 25, 2012 , 0 Comments

The first Pixar movie I ever liked was Monster’s Inc. I must’ve watched it a dozen times by now and I still don’t grow tired of it. I loved each character and of course, I found Boo extremely adorable. The gang is back after years of hibernation and Pixar are once again bringing our favorite Monster’s Inc characters on the big screen.

Of Fantasy Weddings and such

A friend of mine is about to get married. Understandably, whenever I talk to her nowadays she seems to be overly distracted and frantic. I know her stress levels are way up high because of all the wedding details she has to take care of. We her friends can do nothing but just be there for her along the way.

I remember one conversation I had with her the other day about how costly the wedding was getting. It is indeed just that one day in their lives where the wedding is also a celebration with the family. I distinctly remember Monica from one episode of Friends going through the same thing and despite it being expensive and Chandler thinks it was a waste of money, he eventually gave in. My friend was complaining at how expensive the rent for the reception hall will be. I joked around at how she could just find a nice wide open garden where she can put up a white canvas tarp and have the reception held there.

Lessons from Under the Tuscan Sun

When I took a leave from work the other week, I finally got to see Under the Tuscan Sun. I’ve been told that it’s a good break-up movie and it gave me the impression that the movie would reduce me to tears so I mostly stayed away from it. Well, it did had me tearing up in some parts but I’m really glad that I decided to finally watch it.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower Book Review

Sunday, June 24, 2012 , 0 Comments

While writing this post, I’m listening to the One Winter music playlist that Charlie gave to his friend Patrick. It’s a great selection of songs and in case you’re interested to hear them, check out the video playlist I made below. Going back to the book though, I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time now. Last week, I finally got the chance and I enjoyed every minute of it. I read the book not because there’s a movie coming out but I was delighted to hear that news.

New Trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution

Sunday, June 24, 2012 , 0 Comments

Mila Jovovich is back as Alice in Resident Evil: Retribution. Once again Alice wakes up to find herself within the Umbrella Corporation’s facilities and the T-virus is still ravaging the Earth. While the Resident Evil movie franchise been subject to mixed reviews in the past, I’ve always enjoyed watching them. I don’t know what it is about zombies that makes me keep watching them. Haha. We’re in for a wild ride with Undead hunting once again and the movie promises twists that will make Alice re-think the truths she has come to accept in the past.

Delightful Italian food at the Burgos Circle in Tuscano Italian Restaurant

Sunday, June 24, 2012 , 0 Comments

My highlight for the week after a rigorous work schedule full of 3d modellings and deadlines was taking part at the bloggers food tasting at Tuscano Italian Restaurant. I was set for gastronomic delights from Tuscano, a fairly new Italian Restaurant in Burgos Circle at Fort Bonifacio.

tuscano-italian-restaurant
Here’s a bit of a background about Tuscano. It takes its name from Tuscany, a region in Italy. Tuscano serves Italian cuisine but boasts of cooking in the traditional Italian way. They make use of fresh ingredients and they make pasta and pizza dough fresh each day too.

My Lazy Sunday

I love spending my Sundays doing the things I don’t normally get to do during the rest of the week. So I guess it’s not exactly a “lazy” Sunday, lazy as in doing almost nothing. Sunday is just that day that I get some important “ME” time too. I slept in for an extra two hours and felt very rested when I woke up. After doing some chores, I sat down in front of my computer and proceeded to write. This is a screenshot of my screen while I’m writing. I have several windows open and while writing, I like to keep a video playing in the background. Sometimes I have music playing but videos have a focusing effect on me too. I’m using Focus Writer as my text editor. I love that it’s very minimalistic, it has spellcheck and I have the option to switch it to distraction-free mode.

While on break from writing, I play for about an hour with some games that I have on Steam. Right now I’m kinda obsessed with playing Bastion.

I got a nice surprise sent to me this morning. When I opened it, it was a box of the new Nestle Coffeemate Creamy Caramel creamer. The box was big and it was packaged in such a cute way that I couldn’t help but take a photo of it. I love the blending of the red and caramel colors in the packaging as well.

The Mark of Athena Chapter Preview

Friday, June 22, 2012 0 Comments

One of the best young adult book series I’ve read is Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Even if it’s highly doubtful if they’ll continue making movies off it, the books are an incredible read. Percy Jackson has been immortalized as a character in a fantasy series that fans will remember for all time. Rick Riordan is indeed a brilliant writer. As a spin-off from that, his immensely popular Heroes of Olympus trilogy is doing well too.
The book that I’ve been waiting to be released is Mark of Athena, book three of the Heroes of Olympus trilogy. It’s promising to be jam-packed with action, mythology and finally the fulfillment of the Prophecy of Seven. If you’ve already read the first two books, then you must share in the anticipation. To quell it for a bit, Disney has offered a free read of a chapter from the book. (click on the picture to be taken to the site link)

Mark-of-Athena-chapter
Mark-of-Athena-chapter
The Mark of Athena
by Rick Riordan
In The Son of Neptune, Percy, Hazel, and Frank met in Camp Jupiter, the Roman equivalent of Camp Halfblood, and traveled to the land beyond the gods to complete a dangerous quest. The third book in the Heroes of Olympus series will unite them with Jason, Piper, and Leo. But they number only six--who will complete the Prophecy of Seven?
The Greek and Roman demigods will have to cooperate in order to defeat the giants released by the Earth Mother, Gaea. Then they will have to sail together to the ancient land to find the Doors of Death. What exactly are the Doors of Death? Much of the prophesy remains a mystery. . . . With old friends and new friends joining forces, a marvelous ship, fearsome foes, and an exotic setting, The Mark of Athena promises to be another unforgettable adventure by master storyteller Rick Riordan.

Production Stills from Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2

Thursday, June 21, 2012 , 0 Comments

November is the month that Twilight fans all over the world has marked for the final installment of the widely popular Twilight movie franchise. Coming from a perspective of one who hasn’t read the books and was just told by a friend about generally what would happen in this last film, well I’m expecting a climatic and perhaps a romantic ending to the love saga of Edward and Bella. Oh and look, Renesme now completes the family.

twilight-breaking-dawn-part2
What I’m eager to see is how Bella will cope with being a newborn vampire while being a mother at the same time. How will Jacob’s relationship with the Cullens be, now that he has marked Bella’s daughter? Among the stills, you see Dakota Fanning making an appearance. Finally, will we see just how terrible a foe she can be?

Maleficent Starts Filming

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 , 0 Comments

Since Evil Queens are the rage nowadays with the high standard set by Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman, as well as the exemplary performance of Lana Parrilla as Regina Mills/Evil Queen in Once Upon a Time, Angeline Jolie is now set to thrill us in the new Disney movie Maleficent which has just started filming. Maleficent will be the witch’s untold story and what events led to her to curse the baby Aurora. The film’s plot reminds me of Wicked, based from the story of the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. The film will be directed by Robert Stromberg, the production designer of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. This will be his directorial debut. Here’s a first look at Angelina Jolie as Maleficent.

Draw Something gets Revamped

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 , 0 Comments

When Draw Something rose to popular several months back, it became news that Zynga acquired it for a hefty sum. Everybody just assumed that they were fearing its surreal rise as a threat to their own games. Days after they did that, users received an email that Zynga will be improving on the game and will offer more features. So, okay and we waited. Now it seems, the popularity of Draw Something has declined and its users are far less and less. Even I don’t bother opening up the game anymore, only when I find myself with nothing else to do and I happen to see the app in my phone. Can Zynga bring tickle the interest of users once again with the recent facelift to Draw Something? Let’s take a look shall we?

Would you put Nail Polish on your Dog?

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 , 0 Comments

One of the fun things about being a girl is being able to browse through hundreds of glittering and metallic colors at the Beauty Store for nail polish. I don't see myself as being overly "girly" and high maintenance but I do indulge myself with the joys of being able to color my toenails in different colors. Shallow yes but fun nonetheless.

nail-polish-for-dogs

However, I don't think I would go as far as putting nail polish on my dogs. For one, they hate the smell and two, I'm scared that they would start to lick it and get tummy aches. I don't really see the point too. It looks ridiculous on them. Oh and I also dislike those little shoes that people sometimes put on toy dogs. Come on people, they need the pads of their paws to walk. Those shoes just strain their little legs more.

Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-man

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 , 0 Comments

Easy A is one of my favorite movies and Emma Stone, being the star in it, became one of my favorite actresses to watch too. She’s fun, animated, very expressive and gorgeous without trying too hard. She’s been seen in several more movies since like Crazy, Stupid Love and The Help but I think most geeks loved her instantly in Zombieland, which I only saw a couple of months back.

Cloudstone Facebook Game: First Impressions

Monday, June 18, 2012 , 0 Comments

Last night, I tried out the beta version of Cloudstone, a new Facebook game by Nexon. It is a point and click RPG featuring quirky characters and brightly colored vector graphics. What made me try it out was that they were saying that it's similar to Bastion. Well, the graphics yes but the gameplay is somewhat different plus it's missing the amazing narration in Bastion.

cloudstone-facebook-game

The game is not hard to kickstart and I mostly breezed through the tutorial and just skimming through the instructions. If you're adept with RPG then you can do without those. There are 3 classes to choose from as of now - Warrior, Wizard and Monk. I chose the Monk. I don't know I'm just particularly fond of monks. Even in Diablo III my character IS a monk too. You can customize your character through the various options available but you won't get to do so until you've done quite a number of quests.

Never Seconds Banned and Unbanned

Sunday, June 17, 2012 , 0 Comments

I heard of the site Never Seconds when I saw it on my Huffington Post feed. It was of a nine year old blogger who was revolutionizing the way food is served in school cafeterias. Martha goes by the name of Veg in her blog. Veg stands for (no not vegetarian) Veritas Ex Gusto which is Latin for Truth from Tasting.

Never-Seconds-Food-Blog

She writes about what she had for lunch, takes a picture of them and then gives them ratings. Her site received a very positive response. She has raised awareness about the importance of nutrition in schools, she has encouraged other kids to submit their lunch pictures and she posts them on Never Seconds and she has helped to raise funds for building a kitchen through Mary’s Meal in Malawi. I had put this topic down on my blogging notebook but due to the extremely hectic schedule for work I had the past weeks, I wasn’t able to write about it until I saw Neil Gaiman’s tweet the other day.

Guilty Wives Book Review

Friday, June 15, 2012 , 0 Comments

I usually stay away from mainstream authors when I browse books at a bookstore but since seeing Guilty Wives from my Goodreads recommended list, I decided to give it a try. This would be (to date), the first ever James Patterson book I'll read. What followed was me getting hooked from the first chapter until the last.

Guilty-Wives-Book-Review
Guilty Wives
by James Patterson and David Ellis
Four best friends on a decadent vacation.
NO HUSBANDS ALLOWED
Only minutes after Abbie Elliot and her three best friends step off of a private helicopter, they enter the most luxurious, sumptuous, sensually pampering hotel they have ever been to. Their lavish presidential suite overlooks Monte Carlo, and they surrender to the sun and pool, to the sashimi and sake, to the Bruno Paillard champagne. For four days they're free to live someone else's life. As the weekend moves into pulsating discos, highstakes casinos, and beyond, Abbie is transported to the greatest pleasure and release she has ever known.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?
In the morning's harsh light, Abbie awakens on a yacht, surrounded by police. Something awful has happened - something impossible, unthinkable. Abbie, Winnie, Serena, and Bryah are arrested and accused of the foulest crime imaginable. And now the vacation of a lifetime becomes the fight of a lifetime - for survival.

Twilight Breaking Dawn 2 Movie Posters

Friday, June 15, 2012 , 0 Comments

Although I have to read the books that remain unopened on my bookshelf, I like the Twilight Saga for the movies. There’s no denying that the movie has a great fan base and now that the movie franchise is about to be concluded, come November…the Twilight movie frenzy will be upon us once again. Before that though, let’s enjoy the calm before the storm and look upon the released movie posters. They don’t reveal much about the plot, just half head shots of the lead characters and the word “Forever”.

Rock of Ages Movie Review

Thursday, June 14, 2012 , 0 Comments

Don't need nothin' but a good time
How can I resist
Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time
And it don't get better than this
-Nothin’ but a good time by Poison

That was the song I kept singing while driving home the other night from watching at the premiere of Rock of Ages. It had been a long day for me and watching the movie was a great way to end my day. Although I haven’t seen the musical where the movie Rock of Ages was adapted from, I was already counting on the soundtrack for this movie to be really good. Other than that, the other reason why I wanted to see it was Tom Cruise. Throughout his long career and for all the movies of his that I have already seen, the only time that I saw him sing was at one scene in Jerry Maguire. Most of the trailers released for Rock of Ages only had glimpses of him on the stage so I got really curious if he really had a singing voice to pull that off.

Win P20,000 by Joining the Kotex Contest

Thursday, June 14, 2012 0 Comments

When I attended the Kotex launch for their new pad with Pro-Active guards and Rapid Absorb Funnels, both of which help give more comfort and prevent leakage when a woman has her period, I was asked at the registration counter to write down what I wouldn’t compromise. After giving it some thought, here’s what I wrote:
I wouldn’t compromise my personal style just to conform.
My personal style is what makes me “ME” and it’s these subtle details that I add to what I wear, how I write, how I design interiors, how I interact with my personal belongings and how I treat the events of my life that define my personality. Kotex’ new campaign encourages women not to be ruled by inhibitions and fear. Their stand is that modern Filipina women (the modern Maria Clara) of today should not compromise their passions. Likewise, think about that one thing that you would never compromise too and combine it with something that you think you can do fearlessly or been wanting to do for some time but has never dared yourself to do. That winning idea can grant you the chance to win Php 20,000. All you have to do is grab that video camera and capture it all on film. Are you the modern Maria Clara they’re looking for?

At the Kotex Launch, A Modern Maria Clara doesn’t Compromise

I was invited the new product launch of Kotex a few days ago. I was really attracted to the marketing campaign tagline - The Modern Maria Clara doesn’t compromise. I’m very supportive of any campaign that empowers women especially one that promotes how Filipina women of today doesn’t let their periods and inhibitions get in the way of doing what they love and what they dare themselves to do.

Island Hopping at the Hundred Islands

Sunday, June 10, 2012 0 Comments

I’ve always heard about the Hundred Islands at Pangasinan but has never been fortunate enough to visit it. Not even for one of the class field trips when I was still in school. So when I heard that it was one of our stops for our company outing this summer, I eagerly packed my telephoto lens and proceeded to be excited to practice my skills in landscape photography. It was one thing seeing the Hundred Islands in books, it’s an entirely different experience seeing those islands up-close.
Hundred-Islands-Pangasinan

There are currently 124 islands recorded at the Hundred Islands National Park. Yes, for those of you not in the know, it has been declared a National Park. Traveling to Pangasinan takes about five hours so prepare yourself for a long travel time. It’s ideal that you set to leave in the wee hours of the morning to reach Pangasinan by mid-morning. The Hundred Islands are actually a cluster of coral beds that are 2 million years old. During that time, it was submerged in water. The water has since receded and now we’re left with these island clusters.

Logo Quiz can be quite Addicting

Saturday, June 09, 2012 0 Comments

Brands and logos are so common in our everyday lives. We see them everywhere, the moment we wake up, we’re already exposed to so much product branding. Unknowingly, these images have been instilled in our memories whether we like it or not. This was what I was counting on when I tried out the Logo Quiz game from the Play Store. Believe it or not, since trying out that first game, a lot of logo quiz games have popped up but most has the same kind of gameplay.

John Krasinski as Adam in Big Miracle

Friday, June 08, 2012 , 0 Comments

The first time I’ve seen John Krasinski act in a movie was when I watched License to Wed where he starred with Mandy Moore. There he played a character that was your ideal guy and a low-key charmer at that. I keep getting him confused with Zachary Levi, who’s best know for his role as Chuck in the Chuck TV series. However, they’re only similar in body build and height. John Krasinski stands out on his own because he choose roles that are very similar to his personality, a guy who’s warm and funny and very much down to earth (as stated by Drew Barrymore and his director Ken Kwapis).  Today he is known for the hit TV show, The Office.

john-krasinski-adam-big-miracle

In the movie Big Miracle, John Krasinski takes on the role of Adam Carlson, a local news reporter in Anchorage who covered the true story of stranded whales. To prepare for his role, he read the book from which the movie is based from and he looked through the actual news footages that were aired during that time. Ken Kwapis swears by the acting prowess of John Krasinski wherein he can actually connect to audiences emotionally. Perfectly enough, there are emotional scenes in the movie which John flawlessly executed.

Big Miracle is coming soon in theaters worldwide.

Disney Releases New Trailer for Brave

Friday, June 08, 2012 , 0 Comments

Disney releases a new trailer for Brave which tells of the story of Merida who decides to take her destiny into her own hands by defiling a sacred tradition in their lands. By doing so, she remorsefully tries to undo the curse by facing her fears and finally confronting her destiny.

In this new trailer, you’ll notice more of the things Merida did when she ventured out of her father’s realm in search of changing her fate and there were also shots of her facing perils and monsters. It’s looking to be one very big adventure for a great looking Disney/Pixar movie and I just can’t wait for August to come rolling around.

Are you Afraid of the Dark?

Thursday, June 07, 2012 , 0 Comments

The other night I was driving home at about a little past midnight and I happened to notice a building that was being constructed near a school. Since it was late in the night, there was no work being done and the building was very dark. It was strange looking at the black squares that would soon be the building's windows. My imagination raced immediately, having read too many Stephen King novels before. I started to wonder if at that one instant that I stared at those darkened windows, a white glowing figure suddenly materialize, what in the world will I do? I'll probably gun the engine and race on out of there!

I’d soon expect zombies to come barging out of there.

It got me thinking too, just what is it about the darkness that makes it particularly frightening?Add to that, when did it become so when our ancestors didn't have electricity at night and had only the stars as night lights. Well for me, I remember why I'm not such a fan of horror movies. It's one thing to be able to read them in book and for the monsters just to be imagined in my mind and another thing to see them on-screen in all their monstrosity.

If I woke up in the middle of the night and saw this, I’d scream my head off. Smile with tongue out

There’s still nine days left to purchase the great game roundup for The Humble Indie Bundle V. The collection includes Amnesia: The Dark Descent (one of the games I’ve had on my Steam Wishlist), Psychonauts, Limbo (yet another one on my wishlist) and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. If you pay more than $7.86, you’ll also get Bastion. Here’s another plus, you also get the soundtracks for the games in the bundle. Cool huh?

The proceeds will be divided between the developers, charity and foundations. You get to choose how exactly they will be divided. If you’re on Steam, you get the steam codes with your purchase too. Tom Cruise Rocks it out in Rock of Ages

Tuesday, June 05, 2012 1 Comments

I’ve seen him act on intense action films but I’ve never really seen Tom Cruise act out a part which requires him to be an all-out rockstar. In the musical adaptation Rock of Ages, we’ll see him do just that as the legendary Stacee Jaxx. I can’t wait!! The 70s and 80s was notorious for spawning up rockstars who get too boozed and drugged up when they reach the peak of their success and slowly head downhill after that. I think this is where the stereotype of being rockstar and a drug addict became synonymous with each other.
