The Iron Druid Chronicles

Monday, December 31, 2012 0 Comments

The first time that I’ve ever played a Druid character was back when I was spending a lot of hours playing Icewind Dale II. It wasn’t my main character but I thought it pretty cool and handy when he was shape shifting into animal forms. However, that’s pretty much all that I know about Druids. When a friend of mine from Goodreads suggested that I read the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne, I was excited to know more. At the time, I was deep into reading The Dresden Files, another awesome fantasy series by Jim Butcher. To date, I’ve read four books in The Iron Druid Chronicles Series - Hounded, Hexed, Hammered and Tricked.

2013 Color of the Year from Pantone

Monday, December 31, 2012 0 Comments

Once again, the folks from Pantone who are the foremost authority in color expertise, reports that the color of the year for 2013 is Emerald Green or to be more precise, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald. It fits well with the lucky color mentioned by a Feng Shui master that I heard on the radio the other day. Emerald is the color of renewal, growth and prosperity. It is also the most abundant color in nature.

Popcorn Night: Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days

Sunday, December 30, 2012 , 0 Comments

diary-wimpy-kid-dog-days-movie-review
I’m a big fan of the books and one of the reasons why are the amusing cartoonish doodles on the pages. It’s such a delight for me when I see these doodles animated in the movie. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is adapted for the big screen from the book of the same name written by Jeff Kinney. While it doesn’t really follow the events in the book faithfully, it still captures the essence of what the series is all about. The first movie was a hit, the second one was so-and-so but it looks like the magic is back with the third film.

PLOT
When school is out for the summer, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) has all kinds of summer activities in mind which involves his best friend Rowley (Robert Capron) and the video game Twisted Wizard. His dad however, is determined to have some father and son bonding time over outdoor activities. The movie then on shows Greg’s adventures of trying to escape his dad while also trying to make good with his crush Holly Hills (Peyton List).

Mini Papercraft by Gus Santome

Friday, December 28, 2012 , 0 Comments

I used to play a lot with paperdolls when I was a kid, while the ones that I got to play with are 2D, these however are much much better. Gus Santome has an adorable collection of papercrafts in his website that are free to download. Yes, download because you just have to print these out on cardboard and you can fold them yourself.

Awesome Egg Sculptures

Friday, December 28, 2012 0 Comments

I remember there was a time in highschool when we had to do an egg project for an arts and crafts class. I’m sure you’re familiar with this, poking a little hole at the base of an egg to get the egg yolk out then painting or embellishing the egg to make it, well pretty. I’ve always had the patience to do crafts that’s why I’ve also chosen a career in the art field but I may never have the mastery and skill that Chinese artist Wen Fuliang has when making these awesome egg sculptures.

Character Posters for The Great Gatsby

Friday, December 28, 2012 , 0 Comments

Adapted from a novel of the same name penned by one of the literary greats, F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby is set to come alive through the direction of Baz Luhrmann, the same man who brought us Moulin Rouge. In the movie, Nick Carraway comes to New York City in 1922, at a time when there’s a frivolous disregard with morals, people were all about riches and money and all that glittering jazz. By chance, he lands near a mysterious millionaire known as Jay Gatsby and with the influence of his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her husband, he began to be drawn in the captivating world of the super rich. Through his eyes, he writes about the things he see and the people he came across.

The character posters are shots of the lead actors in the movie with an Art Deco patterned background. The Great Gatsby will be shown in theaters on May 15, 2013 and will star Leonardo Di Caprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson, and Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan.

Hooked on Warehouse 13

Thursday, December 27, 2012 , 0 Comments

My friend Tom mentioned this show to me years ago but it’s only recently that I found the time to watch it. I borrowed copies of the first seasons from my officemate and they’re the ones I’ve been watching during my spare time this holiday break. To tell you the truth, I’m hopelessly hooked. If you think that Warehouse 13 will just be a bore like I initially thought, then you’ll be delightfully wrong.

Discover an Array of Wonderful Breads at Manila Bake by Serye Café Filipino

Wednesday, December 26, 2012 0 Comments

Believe it or not, the most common food in the world is bread and no breakfast is complete without the wonderful aromas of freshly-baked bread and brewed coffee beckoning you to the dining table. If I had my way, I would prefer to have bread everyday. Why not? With Manila Bake, I'm discovering that there is a lot more to bread than yeast and dough. The owners of Manila Bake really know their stuff. When we got to meet them, I could tell that they were really passionate about their products and they were devoted to perfect their craft almost down to an exact science.
 photo manila-bake-serye--6_zps8a5fad48.jpg
Manila Bake is located along Katipunan Avenue Extension among a cluster of restaurant chains. Although parking is limited in front of the store, the idea behind Manila Bake is to be a food stop to get your supply of bread fresh from its ovens as quick as possible.

Looks like motion posters are becoming a trend nowadays, here’s the one for The Croods. It does have some sound in it so turn it down if it’s way up high. The Croods is written and directed by Chris Sanders (How to Train your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch). In the movie, there is a previously undiscovered era known as Croodaceous during prehistory. Audiences will marvel at never before seen creatures and landscapes. The Croods is looking to be good family fun! The Croods will open on March 22, 2013 nationwide.

Mousehunt Free Android App is now Available!

I’ve had my fair share of Facebook games since signing up at the social network site and one of the very first games I’ve played (and still playing it) is Mousehunt. I can’t believe that I’ve been playing it since June of 2008, having checked my hunter profile just now. It doesn’t have moving graphics, fancy animations except for the hunting horn and yet millions of players including me are avid players everyday. You hunt for mice (virtual mice of course!) every 15 minutes by sounding the hunter’s horn. What is seemingly such a simple game can be profoundly addictive. What makes players come back are the ways that the game developers continually innovate the game with new goals, new mice and new traps to make. The artwork is also very creative and amusing. Before I get too sidetracked with discussing the game, here’s good news for Mousehunt players who are also Android users all over the world, the official Mousehunt Android app is finally here. After initial use, I was already impressed. It’s a much much more better alternative than the mobile site that was previously available.

The Full Teaser Trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness is Here!

Thursday, December 20, 2012 , 0 Comments

Waking up Trekkies all over the world, the much anticipated teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness is finally here. Yes I’m a bit unimpressed by the choice that J.J. Abrams made for the title but hey, it doesn’t mean that the film would fall less of all expectations. The film is slated for release around May next year but already, there is a positive response to the teasers released. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and John Cho are all coming back to reprise their roles from the first Star Trek film by J.J. Abrams.

Watch the New Trailer for Disney’s The Lone Ranger

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 , , 0 Comments

Now why do I have a certain popular cowboy theme playing in my head while writing this post? In Disney’s The Lone Ranger, Johnny Depp plays the character of a native American spirit warrior Tonto. He tells of the tales that transformed John Reid played by Armie Hammer into a legend of justice. The Lone Ranger is a humorous and action-filled take on the epic tale from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the team behind the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Book Cover Magnets

In most households, the front door face of a refrigerator becomes a blank canvas in housing odd collections of magnets, pictures and notes. My own ref at home has a cluster of magnets bought from travels and a bunch of doggies pics on there as well. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Movie Review

Monday, December 17, 2012 , 0 Comments

movie-reviewI was fortunate enough to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey a day before the regular showing through the press screening at the IMAX Theater. I have read the book years before but to be honest, I've quite forgotten most of what happened in the novel. I remember the key plots but beyond that I couldn't recall anymore. There was a rush for some people to re-read the novel again but I restrained myself, which turned out to be a good thing. I didn't end up comparing the events in the book with what was adapted in the film.
the-hobbit-unexpected-journey-movie-review

Like all adventures, it starts with taking the first step.

PLOT
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first part of a trilogy. The second part entitled as The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug will be seen in theaters on December 13, 2013. Then the last part of the trilogy with the title The Hobbit:There and Back Again will be released on July 18, 2014. The movie tells about the story of how Bilbo (Martin Freeman), a Hobbit of the Shire, set out on a journey with a company of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to take back the lost Dwarven Kingdom of Erebor. All of these happened sixty years before Frodo sets off in his own adventure. They would have to take the long and perilous road to The Lonely Mountain where they'll be fighting hoards of orcs and goblins. They also have the mission to find the secret entrance to the kingdom for the main entry was guarded by Smaug. Amidst all that, they have to dodge the army of a Pale Orc who has sworn to exact revenge on Thorin.

Pacific Rim Movie Posters and Trailer

Friday, December 14, 2012 , , 0 Comments

One more popular scenario of a dystopian future is one where mankind faces a possible alien and monstrous threat. This is what filmmaker Guillermo del Toro builds upon for the movie Pacific Rim under the banners of film giants, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. The sci-fi action adventure shows earth almost totally consumed by legions of monstrous creatures known as Kaiju. In an effort to fight back, a special type of weapon was invented. The Jaegers were massive robots controlled by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

Life of Pi Coming Soon to a Cinema Near You

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 , 0 Comments

On January 9, 2013, the movie Life of Pi will be gracing the big screen. It has been directed by Ang Lee and was adapted from the bestseller book by Yann Martel. The book itself is a bit philosophical, full of imagination and rich in abstract concepts. For years, it has been thought that the book would never be made into a movie. With the aid of 3d visuals, Ang Lee hopes to capture the spirit of the book in a grandiose style of storytelling.

Popcorn Night: 50/50 Movie Review

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 , 0 Comments

50-50-movie-review50/50 has been in my movie library for quite some time now but I only got to watch it last night. No thanks to a busted phone box and I couldn't access the Internet. Anyway, I watched this movie while waiting for sleep to come. It turned out to be a great movie choice because it was saddening and inspiring at the same time. It also got me thinking about some really deep thoughts.

Yuka Nail Polish Remover Wipes

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 , 0 Comments

It's fun being able to change my nail polish every week into different colors and I also love putting on the polish myself. What I don't like is the tedious task of removing the nail polish from my nails with acetone. I've never really liked the smell of it and it always leaves my fingers dry. When I saw that there was a nail polish remover in the November BDJ Box, I couldn't wait to try it out. In all the excitement, I even bought myself a new nail polish last weekend.
yuka-nail-polish-remover-wipes

The Yuka Nail Polish Remover Wipes that I got came in a neat round container containing 35 thin circular sheet wipes. You know the best thing about when I opened it? It smelled deliciously of grapes. No more acetone smell. Oh yes! The thin circular wipes were dissolved in a polish remover liquid and my only concern is that since the container is not really air tight, if not capped on properly, this might dry up.

Build your Dream Home at the Bel-Air Residences in Lipa

Monday, December 10, 2012 , , 0 Comments

What do most home buyers consider first when looking into purchasing real estate properties? Location location location. A home must be a safe place; it should be near places of entertainment and relaxation and should be easily accessible via public transportation. When you’ve gotten tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, look no further than Lipa City which is one of the most progressive cities in Batangas. I kid you not. Going there is only a one hour drive from Makati especially thru the Star Tollway. I personally experienced how the travelling time got shorter considerably with the Star Tollway. There’s also a 24-hour bus transport from Cubao and Buendia.

Bel-Air Residences Lipa has a wide-range of houses ranging from 88 to 165 sqm in size, all having a modern zen architecture design. Homeowners will be delighted to learn of the vast number of amenities that Bel-Air Residences Lipa offers like a basketball court, a jogging path, a playground, barbecue area, multiple parks, a pool, lanai, a gazebo and a Club House. They will surely foster a good and neighborly community. Of the list; the pool, jogging path and the multiple parks stand out the most for me.

If that’s not enough, malls such as SM Lipa, Fiesta Mall, Robinson’s Mall, Big Ben etc are within walking distance. If you’re into diving and is an enthusiast as well, The Farm at San Benito which is one of the famous dive sites in the Philippines is just minutes away too. Just think, you can get to dive as often in a week as you want to without worrying too much about out-of town planning with the hassle of booking reservations. Bel-Air Residences Lipa is also near schools like Stoneyhurst International School, Nazareth School, McKinley International School, Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Lipa and De Lasalle Lipa. This would ensure that kids wouldn’t have to travel far for a good school. Reputable hospitals near the subdivision like the Lipa Medix Medical Center and Metro Lipa Medical Center will provide peace of mind should emergencies arise.

Here are examples of what some of the houses look like. You may take notice of the sleek lines and the modern design.

St. Ives Mineral Therapy Body Wash

Sunday, December 09, 2012 , 0 Comments

I’ve been running low on body wash and deciding that I needed a change, I spent several minutes browsing through dozens of body wash bottles at the grocery aisle. I’ve finally chosen to buy a 400ML bottle of St. Ives Mineral Therapy Moisturizing Body Wash. The packaging design was pretty simple, the bottle was sleek with virtually no square edge. It had a white, blue and green color scheme which was easy on the eyes.

Can’t wait to see Sulley and Mike Wazowski on the big-screen again? Well, me too. However we do have to wait until June to see them again. Monster’s Inc. showed the two as a team with a very close bond, in Monsters University it wasn’t always the case. There was a time when they couldn’t stand each other. I’m curious what brought them together. For now though, let’s just piece together clues from the newly released posters for the upcoming Disney Pixar movie Monsters University.

It looks like Sulley was a big jock back in college while Mike was your average nerd. It also appears that they’re room mates.

How to go Paperless

I'm sure you've noticed the green movement going on, thanks to raised environmental issue awareness. The Green movement has been especially prominent in my field since more and more materials are being made eco-friendly. So how can you pitch in? In your own little way, you can shift some of your everyday tasks and habits to go paperless.

Here are some tips:
Do not print emails. My inbox is usually the first thing I sift through when I get to the office. Emails are usually the choice of correspondence at work and unless it's absolutely necessary, make it a point not to print out the email. You get to save on printer ink too.

Send e-cards instead.
Although I agree that it's much more nostalgic to get a postcard or a letter via snail mail instead, be more friendly to the environment from now on by browsing through Hallmark's e-card shop.

L'Oreal Lucent Magique BB Cream

Sunday, December 09, 2012 , 0 Comments

Here's another review of one of the beauty products inside the October BDJ Box. I've been crazy about BB creams ever since my sister introduced me to them. For those not in the know (like I was months ago), BB creams have been around since the 1960's and are just now becoming popular in cosmetic brands. BB cream stands for "blemish balm" or "beauty balm". Basically, a BB cream is an all-in-one facial cosmetic product which combines a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock. It is often mineral-based and is also used for covering and treating blemishes.

See Olivia Wilde’s Dark Side in Deadfall

Wednesday, December 05, 2012 , 0 Comments

One of the most beautiful women on-screen today is Olivia Wilde. We’ve seen her in big films like Tron:Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens and The Change-Up. She also had a minor role in In Time. In Deadfall, she plays opposite Eric Bana in a thriller penned by screenwriter Zach Dean. The film tells of the story of two-siblings, Liza (Olivia Wilde) and Addison (Eric Bana) who were on the run after a casino heist that didn’t go as planned. In a move of desperation, they decided to split up and make a run for the Canadian border despite a whiteout blizzard raging the land.
