Finding Waldo in Where’s Waldo Now?

Thursday, February 28, 2013 , , 0 Comments

I’ve enjoyed finding Wally (US)/Waldo (Canada) since discovering the books. What makes the Where’s Wally? books fun are not only the elaborate and detailed double-page illustrations where Wally is hiding but also the red herrings you can find. Thankfully I can continue trying to find Waldo in this Android game. Where’s Waldo Now? is best played on tablets since the illustrations require a big screen.

Playing the game is similar to the objective in the books. The objects and people you need to find are located on the left side of the game screen.

2013 Book Review #9 Wicked by Gregory Maguire

Thursday, February 28, 2013 , 0 Comments

Elphaba is probably the most famous witch in literature and she's easily identifiable as the witch with the green skin and was the brainchild of author Gregory Maguire. She's also the star in one of the most successful and longest running musicals in Broadway. The novel Wicked, was the inspiration for the said musical. In anticipation of the upcoming movie, Oz the Great and Powerful and with me addicted to the Wicked Musical Soundtrack, I thought it was high time for me to finally read the novel since buying it eons ago.
wicked-novel-gregory-maguire

PLOT
Wicked is about the untold stories of the lives of the witches of Oz. Glinda is the witch of the North, Nessa Rose as the witch from the East and Elphaba as the witch of the West. Wicked concentrates more solely on the life Elphaba and the events in her life before she met her tragic demise thru Dorothy's doing. The main point of the novel is for the reader to see if Elphaba was really fitting for her title of being "wicked".

IMPRESSIONS
I'm sure the musical was great, otherwise it wouldn't have ran for that long but this book was however a bit disappointing for me. I find Gregory Maguire's writing a bit hard to read and sometimes there's no continuity in the events in the novel. The concept for the re-imagining was very good. Thanks to him, we can now have an inkling of how the witches were.

A Home Away from Home at Asilo Tagaytay

Thursday, February 28, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Living in the city can prove to be stressful at times. Everything is fast-paced, on the go and all about work. Sometimes it’s even hard to relax on weekends with the hustle and bustle of the city around you. This is why cityfolk often venture out to nearby Tagaytay just to unwind. Tagaytay is just about a two-hour drive from the city (shorter if there’s no traffic). The distance plus the relatively cool climate make it all the more ideal as a tourist destination for quick vacations. Recognizing the importance of this geographical location, Avida Land (the affordable housing arm of Ayala Land) sought to create Asilo Tagaytay, your soon to be vacation home in Tagaytay.

asilo-tagaytay
Asilo Tagaytay’s prime location near the Rotunda and beside the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church makes Avida Land’s vision of a mixed-use residential development ultimately appealing. This condominium in Tagaytay will allow buyers to enjoy the naturally breathtaking views over Taal Lake and Taal Volcano. Homeowners will also revel in the lush greens of Tagaytay’s picturesque landscape.

Experience Sound with all your Senses with Momentum from Sennheiser

Wednesday, February 27, 2013 , 0 Comments

Last week, my officemates and I were engaged in a discussion while stuck in traffic in a cab en-route to our office from our morning badminton training. It's a noteworthy mention because three years ago, I wouldn't have any inkling of what they were talking about. However, being exposed to the industry and being around people who take pride in being meticulous about the importance of high quality sound when listening to music helped a lot. Needless to say, I was holding up my end of the conversation. The talk was all about sound clarity.
momentum-sennheiser
This month, Sennheiser released Momentum as part of the Sennheiser's Style selection. It promises perfect sound that can be heard, felt and seen. The design of the headphones is very sleek. It is reminiscent of the classic form while keeping up with urbanized style details to keep it up to date and modern.

Looking as close as it could ever be to design of the Spider-Man costume in the comics, take a look as Sony Pictures unveils the suit that Andrew Garfield will be seen in as he carries on the role of Spider-Man in the upcoming movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The costume features a more pronounced eye design with a slight upward curve at the corners and a number of alterations in terms of color and texture all throughout.

Lunch at Kangaroo Jack

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 0 Comments

After an important meeting last week, my colleague and I decided to swing by Robinson's Place Ermita to have lunch. I wasn't particularly craving for something specific at that time but I wasn't in the mood to eat at some usual fast food chain again. I wanted to try out something new. We chose to eat at Kangaroo Jack.

The inside of the store reminded me of being in a log cabin or a lodge. There were a lot of wood and ochre tones. Here's what the restaurant looks inside. I didn't have my trusty camera with me so these are taken by my smartphone.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 0 Comments

February 25th marked the date for the launching of AirAsia's new customer hotline number - 742ASIA or 7422742. Now that's a bunch of numbers that's not hard to keep in mind. Along with this announcement is the introduction of a new innovation. AirAsia has now partnered with 7-Eleven as their cash payment center when availing of their online promos and other privileges but would not want to pay with their credit cards and use cash instead.

Paying with cash for airline tickets has now doubled in convenience as 7-Eleven stores are found almost anywhere. The payment partner service covers all Philippines AirAsia flights from Clark International Airport to Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur with domestic flights including Davao and Kalibo.

Michelle Williams Takes on the Role of Glinda the Good Witch

Monday, February 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

Thinking back at the time that I read the story of The Wizard of Oz, I tried to remember what I knew about Glinda the Good Witch. The story mostly spotlights on Dorothy and her companions and I only recall a precious few details about the Witch from the North.

michelle-williams-glinda
In Oz the Great and Powerful, Michelle Williams takes on the role of Glinda and Annie, Oscar Diggs' (James Franco) love in Kansas. In the movie, Michelle Williams relates that her character needs to convince Oscar Diggs that he is the wizard in the prophecy to save Oz from the hands of the evil witch Evanora (Rachel Weisz).

No More Chapped Lips with Snoe Beauty Beso Balm

Monday, February 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

If there's one thing that I can't stand, it's dry and chapped lips. This is why I never go anywhere without a lip balm or lip gloss. Inside the Dec/Jan BDJ Box was this little gem of a lip balm. Looking at the Snoe Beauty Beso Balm, it would seem like any other lip balm. Turn it over though and you'll see the quirkiness in the packaging.

The Walking Dead is Back and I'm not Liking it

Friday, February 22, 2013 , 0 Comments

It's been two episodes since the third season of The Walking Dead resumed from its break and I'm finding myself getting thoroughly annoyed at the direction the show is pointing to. After such a strong first half for this season, it seems that the writers of the show have somehow lost their magic touch (or pens).
walking-dead-season-3
For the two episodes, I had more dread than enjoyment while devoting precious time to watch the entire episodes. Since I've been a long-time fan of the show, it'll be a shame to suddenly stop watching it. However, if this continues on, I probably would at some point (we'll see).

Touchscreen Crayon Stylus

Remember the time when Draw Something became so popular and everyone was just playing it? Since my phone didn’t come with a stylus, I had to make do with crude drawings made by my finger. Since then, I bought myself a stylus to help me make better sketches on my phone but I wish that it had looked good as the Touchscreen Crayola Stylus from C. Wonder.

New Character Posters for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Thursday, February 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

During the press screening for Lincoln, I got to see the trailer for the movie The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and the it was enough to make me and the viewers laugh out loud. It was hilarious to see comedy greats Jim Carrey and Steve Carell on the big screen together again. The movie tells of the story about a magician duo consisting of Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) seeing the last dregs of a long career as the magical act that ruled the Las Vegas strip. Realizing that they’re facing stiff competition from a street magician named Steve Gray (Jim Carrey). The duo is facing troubles with their friendship too and their falling out is affecting their act. Will Burt find his magical passion again?

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone will open soon in Philippine theaters on March 2013 distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. I can’t wait to see it. For now, marvel in the newly released character posters for the film, featuring the main cast.

Lincoln Movie Review

Thursday, February 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

Abraham Lincoln was a man who left his mark in history by fighting for equality. He continues to be an inspiration to world leaders today and his unforgettable speeches are widely read and quoted. So when Steven Spielberg made the movie Lincoln, his was the challenge of making a legendary man come out even more admirable on the big screen. We all know how Lincoln looks like being the first President to be photographed but how he was when he was still alive was left to the artistic imaginings of the director.

lincoln-movie-review
Daniel Day-Lewis took on the role of Abraham Lincoln and from his first appearance as Abe on the big screen, all traces of his real persona was gone. Instead, Abraham Lincoln was there, larger than life and was filling up the screen with his presence. The transformation was very remarkable and believable. His co-stars even swore that his devotion to the role even went beyond the filming set.

3Doodler Pen: Sketch in 3d!

When it comes to conveying ideas, we artists considering sketching on paper still the most important and convenient skill to have especially during important meetings. Recently there have been a number of software that we can use on the computer to aid in presentation and improvement as a new medium but as of yet, creating something in visual 3d remained a fantasy...until the 3doodler pen came along that is.

Unboxing my February BDJ Box

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 0 Comments

My Monday was going on hectic as usual when my February BDJ Box arrived at my desk. I immediately noticed that it was different from the previous BDJ Boxes that I've received. Look it's decked in rouge. The very sexy colors of the outer cover of the BDJ Box was apt for the love month and I couldn't wait to see what's in it.

february-bdj-box
This month's BDJ Box contains a selection of Shiseido products that were hand-picked by the BDJ Box Team and the Beauty Ministry. Wow! Just reading through the accompanying pamphlet of all the products inside made me giddy with excitement. As I read each description, I couldn't help but nod. I ticked off the skin problems in my head and noted which ones need immediate attention. In my mind I was already plotting my schedule to use these products and see optimal results sometime soon. Yep, I'm that crazy with planning (this is why the set of BDJ planners are so right for me).

Flormar Supershine Nail Enamel Review

Monday, February 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

When it comes to nail colors, I always pick the colors that I’m comfortable with and they’re not overly loud or bright. So when I saw that the Flormar Supershine Nail Enamel  that came with my Dec-Jan BDJ Box was bright orange, I was a bit doubtful if I could pull it off.
flormar-supershine-nail-enamel
After removing my pink nail polish with the Yuka Nail Polish Remover Wipes and I’ve cleaned my nails, I applied the bright orange polish. Here are the things that I’ve noticed:
  • There wasn’t a strong smell of nail polish from the product.
  • It was easy to apply. The consistency of the polish was not too runny and not to thick either.
  • Just two coats was enough and because the nail polish dries with a high gloss, you can choose not to put a top coat anymore.

Diet Coke Cans Designed by Marc Jacobs

Monday, February 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

I’ve always wondered just how fun it would be to make alternate concept designs for an already popular global brand. Take a look at these Diet Coke Cans by Marc Jacobs for example.

 diet-coke-marc-jacobs
These are especially designed to commemorate Diet Coke’s 30th anniversary and the three Marc Jacob’s ads celebrating the different facets of fashion that has spanned for three decades. It’s fitting enough that this is the drink of choice for fashionistas and models who want to stay thin and awake for years. :P I love that the logo of the soda drink is still the dominant graphic feature on the can but then your eyes gradually shift to the fashionable women alongside it.

Just brilliant. {source}

Classic Book Covers Re-designed with Hearts

Monday, February 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

When browsing through a bookstore and given the choice to select from thousands of books to read over the weekend, what usually catches my eye when I don’t have a title in mind is the book’s cover. This is why I think most authors should really have creative advice input when it comes to this, believe it or not, the book cover is the first initial impression that they’ll leave to a reader/bookworm aside from what great story is penned inside the pages.

I stumbled upon this article where they made minimalistic designs for classic novels in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Each book cover had a unifying theme of a heart. Take a look at my selections.

Savages Movie Review

Sunday, February 17, 2013 , 0 Comments

By definition alone, the word savage mean untamed, fierce and uninhibited. I can't think of a much more fitting title for this film. The film was quite intense and too violent at some points for me. Savages is a movie based from a novel with the same name written by Don Winslow. Oliver Stone's rendition of the drug-infused drama offers a different insight into a world dominated by money, power and control. The movie is not for the faint of heart, the casting is an interesting mix and the plot is engaging.
savages-movie-review
PLOT
Everyone dreams of hitting it big and retiring early in their lives. Ben (Aaron Johnson) and Chon (Taylor Kitsch) did it by creating the most potent and sought after strain of marijuana in the US. Their unique relationship stems not only from being business partners but also with being close friends. Apart from that, they also share a woman named O (Blake Lively). Oh yes, this trio breaks all the rules when it comes to monogamous relationships.

Kissable Lips with Flormar Longwearing Lipstick

Friday, February 15, 2013 , 0 Comments

If there's one piece of make-up that I can't sacrifice not using for an entire day, it's lipstick or lipgloss. This is because I have dry lips and if I go on long without these products, my lips end up being chapped and dry. As you can guess, that's a big no-no for me. Inside the Dec-Jan BDJ Box, I was very excited to try the lipstick tube that was in it.

When I uncapped the tube of Flormar Longwearing Lipstick, I was immediately mesmerized by the lovely bright pink color. Check out my vanity shots when I wore the lipstick.

Alternative Ways to Say I Love You

When a person says "I love you" to someone, it's a process of opening your heart up to two possibilities:
  • The joy of hearing someone else say it back to you
  • The hurt of hearing silence and rejection in return
For some, saying the phrase is humbling and when said with all sincerity, the phrase has the power to give one an exhilarating and giddy feeling that is incomparable. There is a danger though of over-using the phrase too much to the point that it loses its meaning. Don't fret, there are a lot of other ways to show one person that you love him or her.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thursday, February 14, 2013 0 Comments

Here we are and it’s the day of hearts again. I’m wishing all my dearest readers a very Happy Valentine’s Day. No matter where or how you spend the day, just remember that it’s the person you’re sharing the sentiments of love with that counts the most. It’s no strange fact that Valentine’s Day is sometimes met with uncanny expectations especially on the women’s part (me not excluded to this), but ladies do remember that a simple Valentine’s Day effort mean well too. Enjoy the spirit of love in the air, after all this is what this holiday is all about.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Stars as Lincoln's Oldest Son

Tuesday, February 12, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has indeed gone a long way into making his mark in Hollywood. He already has a variety of popular movies under his belt - 500 days of Summer, Looper, Inception, Premium Rush and The Dark Knight Rises. It's worth mentioning that because of his role in The Dark Knight Rises there have been talks of a Robin movie spin-off.
joseph-gordon-levitt-lincoln
In the movie Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the role of Robert, Lincoln's (Daniel Day-Lewis) oldest son. Aside from showing Lincoln's patriotic side, the movie also brings to light Lincoln as a family man. It was important that he be seen as a great man but a man who is not without flaws. Robert's relationship with his father was not ideal. He was sent away right when the war was reaching its critical point. His parents wanted him to live a civilian life and far from the reaches of war even if he felt that fighting would make more of a difference.

Lovin' at the Moment: Megafood Show

Sunday, February 10, 2013 0 Comments

I caught this show on National Geographic last week and I loved it. It's a new show on National Geographic Asia that showcases the world's biggest and busiest kitchens. When I tuned in, they were showing how it was like in the kitchen of the world's largest cruise ship. It was 7 days of rigorous cooking and food prepping. It's like watching the Iron Chef or any other cooking reality shows on steroids.

2013 Book Review #8 Lucid by Adrienne Stoltz and Ron Bass

Sunday, February 10, 2013 , 0 Comments

I decided to give this book a try after browsing through its review section in Goodreads. It got generally positive reviews and one even said that it was like Inception. Okay so I figured it will be some mind-bending story and that lucid-book-reviewwas always appealing. The expectations I had before reading this book was very high and I even contemplated on what I would do if I get stuck in paradox that I couldn't discuss with anyone else.

PLOT
Maggie and Sloane shared a secret. When one sleeps, the other one dreams what was going on in the other person's life. Both girls lead very different lives. One was an aspiring actress while one was a straight A student in school. As the become immersed in their daily lives, people and events from their separate lives soon blur together. It then becomes apparent that one has to give up their life and their world for the other person to exist.

Adapted from the novel of the same title written by Don Winslow, Savages will be shown on the big screen and particularly in the Philippines exclusively in Ayala Cinemas starting February 20. The movie brings together the star-studded cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Benecio del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. A quick scan over Goodreads proved the novel to be one that gathered positive ratings and good critique.

Craving for Good Food at Mr. Jones

If you're craving for some classic American food, Mr. Jones at Greenbelt 5 will be a good pick. From outside, Mr. Jones is easily recognizable by the diamond pattern that adorns its large picture windows. The trellis canopy also provides some interesting shadows that compliment the diamond pattern well.

Soft Scented Skin from Camay's Irresistible New Scents

A gift box was brought to my desk yesterday and it smelled so good. I couldn't wait to see what was in this beautiful pink box. Thank you P&G Beauty for this wonderful Camay gift box. Inside it was a silky pink robe that I couldn’t stop touching and a card which introduces the exciting new line of soaps from Camay that women will be so enthusiastic about.
