Pancakes make People Happy | Pancake Photography

Monday, September 30, 2013 , 0 Comments

Just recently I had been getting my fill of blueberry pancakes for breakfast ever since McDonald’s launched their own flavored pancakes. It might not be overly fancy but it does give me some comfort and contentment before I start my stressful workday. This morning though, I’m not able to have my pancake breakfast so instead, I want to pass on my cravings to my readers instead. *evil grin* Here’s my compilation of great pancake photography.

Loving Flormar Lipsticks

Monday, September 30, 2013 , 0 Comments

When I wrote my review for the Flormar Long Wearing Lipstick last February, little did I know that I would like the lipstick so much that I’ll even venture out to buy two more shades to wear. I’m very grateful that I discovered the brand through my subscription of the Dec-Jan BDJ Box.

Paranoia Movie Review

Sunday, September 29, 2013 , 0 Comments

What if you can have everything you have wanted in just a blink of an eye but it would mean that you‘d go against morals and principles that you have known? Would you do it? Similarly, if in the process you will find yourself caught in the middle of the feuding giants, what would you do?

Let the paranoia begin
Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) finds himself in a crazy predicament that involves blackmail. On one hand, he will get to experience the wealth and financial comfort that he has always dreamed of but at the cost of doing what is right. On the other hand, if he does not comply with what his blackmailer wants, he could do some jail time and his loved ones will surely get hurt.

2013 Book Review #47: The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston

Saturday, September 28, 2013 , 0 Comments

The last time that I had read a novel and liked it so much was when I was reading about Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. In this book, The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston, her writing will potentially change the way you view witches. This really opened my eyes about how some witches are reluctant to be given power and is not entirely too comfortable with their long life. Like the protagonist in this book, some witches like to help and they don’t wreak havoc everywhere, instead they just want to be left alone.

Food Typography

Friday, September 27, 2013 0 Comments

One of the most frequent topics I’ve blogged about if you’ve noticed on this site is about food art. I’ve always been fascinated at the creativity of some artists in transforming the most common of food forms into works of art especially when the rest of us got scolded when we were kids if we play with our food. Another new form of art that I’ve recently gotten interested with is typography and I’m sure you’ve seen the various kinds in product packaging, invitations and posters. Merge the two forms of art together and viola – food typography. Let me show you just how wonderful these are.

Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke in Getaway

Thursday, September 26, 2013 , , 0 Comments

In probably the most unlikely team up in a movie are Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke for the movie Getaway. It tells the story of Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke), who is a burned out race car driver on a race of his life to save the life of his wife who had been kidnapped. He had been placed in the car with instructions coming from a mysterious voice (Jon Voight) telling him what to do and watching his every move.

The New My Yahoo! Homepage

Thursday, September 26, 2013 , 0 Comments

To be honest, I haven’t given much attention to the My Yahoo! homepage since I’ve started to use (and love) Netvibes. I just found that Netvibes suited more of my subscribing and reading needs more than the My Yahoo! homepage did. When I saw the re-launched logo for Yahoo!, I still wasn’t convinced and only when the announcement of a new My Yahoo! homepage came out did I take notice. So I ventured to that old playground and took a look around.

Here’s what I immediately noticed. The dashboard looked sleeker and flatter plus, most of the widgets have a default transparency to it. I can’t deny that it doesn’t look good because it does.

Polka Dot Fashion

Wednesday, September 25, 2013 0 Comments

I’ve been so fascinated by anything polka-dotted lately so I decided to do a Polka Dot Fashion theme for my Polyvore session this morning. Just in case you were wondering why it was called polka dot, a quick trip to wikipedia told me that the pattern is an array of filled circles and it doesn’t have a connection to the popular dance. The pattern adopted the polka name because the dance was just popular at the time. Nevertheless, the polka dot pattern is still reminiscent of something vintage or in some cultures, associated with the New year. Here are my explorations with polka dot fashion.

Visiting the San Guillermo Parish Church

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 , 0 Comments

During one of our heritage trips, we got to stop by for a few minutes and take a quick tour inside the San Guillermo Parish Church in Bacolor, Pampanga. The original church was constructed by Augustinian Friars in 1576 but was destroyed by an earthquake in 1880. When Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, the slow moving lahar buried half the church in 1995. That’s what remains of the church today, the former 12M height glory is now gone but still is one of the most revered churches in the country.

300: Rise of an Empire Character Posters

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 , 0 Comments

In 2006, the movie 300 directed by Zack Snyder gave way to a revolutionary cinematic movie adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same title. The sepia rendered environment and slow-motion action shots, not to mention the scantily clad Spartans awed audiences across the globe. Now, 8 years after, the sequel 300: Rise of an Empire will grace the screen and will be told in the same spectacular visual style.

This is the End Movie Review

Monday, September 23, 2013 , 0 Comments

Just how many movies in Hollywood do you often see in which the starring actors play the role of themselves? That’s the case for This is the End and it is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t miss it. The stars in the film are James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. This rowdy group is now often viewed as this generation of actors who are heirs to the throne of Adam Sandler’s bunch. The movie is hilarious and that wasn’t something that I was prepared for.

Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel were attending a party at James Franco’s house when the apocalypse began. Suddenly the partying has come to an end as people get sucked up into gigantic holes on the ground and the area began to burn. The survivors have now cooped up in Franco’s house with no advanced skills for survival and awaiting rescue. They have no idea what’s going on and what the next few days will bring.

Emily Blunt and Colin Firth Star in Arthur Newman

Monday, September 23, 2013 , 0 Comments

When you’ve screwed things over too much, don’t you wish that there was a restart button somewhere that you can use? That fantasy is given some form of reality in the movie Arthur Newman which stars Colin Firth and Emily Blunt. In the film, Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) has been dubbed “The Choker” in the professional golfer’s circle. He had been making mistakes all his life and his wife and son hate him. Finally giving up, he staged his own death and set out on a road trip to nowhere.

Art in Perspective, Hidden Railing Art

Sunday, September 22, 2013 0 Comments

When you’re walking through the streets of your local neighborhood, don’t you think it’s nicer when you see pops of street art here and there? I’m not talking about just some ordinary graffiti but authentic street art. One of the world renowned is Banksy but a different kind of street art is currently making waves in Germany. A street art duo known as Zebrating have been changing the way people look at ordinary railings. Their art have transformed most ordinary railings into works of art.

Quick Bites: Krispy Kreme Premium Chocolate Creations

Sunday, September 22, 2013 0 Comments

Last week, I finally got to try the much awaited Krispy Kreme Premium Chocolate Creations at their Valero branch. Weeks before that, I have been seeing their billboard along the Buendia flyover everyday during my drive to work and you can just imagine how much I’m reminded each time of how much I wanted to try them. There are 6 released flavors all in all and I got to try two.

Of course I wouldn’t pass on getting a bite of the Ferrero Rocher. It looked so appetizing with the Ferrero Rocher ball of chocolate right in the middle.

Gravity takes us into Deep Space

Sunday, September 22, 2013 , 0 Comments

Just the other day as I was driving early morning towards the Valero parking building, I heard this funny commercial on the radio about a contest to go into space. Just think about it, actually going to space! If it weren’t so expensive, most people would take vacations and trips to space shuttles just to be able to gaze out into the great beyond. While space has always been a subject of wonder, there are also the perils of deep space that people choose not to see.

Keep Skin Clean and Moisturized with the Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser

Sunday, September 22, 2013 , 0 Comments

The first important step in proper skincare is washing your face. Therefore one should be wary about what facial wash or cleanser to use for this important step. Gone are the days when soap is the only option for washing one’s face. For the past week, I’ve been using the Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser that I got from the 2013 August BDJ Box. Before I tell you guys about my experience in using this product, let me tell you the difference about a facial wash and cleanser first.
shiseido-ibuki-facial-cleanser
The Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser

You might argue that it’s the same right? Well, you’re not the only one to make this mistake. While closely similar, a facial wash and a facial cleanser have totally different effects. A facial wash can be a substitute for soap and is more solely dedicated to ridding the face of dirt and excess oil. Some facial wash are gentle enough for use everyday. So if you’re always out and you’re exposed to dirt and pollution, it’s better to wash your face with facial wash first.

2013 Book Review #46: The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Friday, September 20, 2013 , 0 Comments

There was so much buzz surrounding the release of this book that I couldn’t help but take notice. When I read the synopsis for the novel on Goodreads, I thought that it might be time then to engage myself in a Neil Gaiman book. Now as I recall the thoughts that I had while reading the book for this review, I remind myself once again to take heed when being swayed by highly publicized novels. I was also reminded about why I haven’t read more of Neil Gaiman’s novels.

Whenever I browse through a store with rows and rows of headphones, I notice that the styles vary from classic to ultra-trendy, depending on the brand. I’m glad to see that Sennheiser has finally jumped the bandwagon and joined in. They’ve started becoming more innovative with their headphone styles particularly with the Momentum series. From once a collection of blacks and greys are now splashes of color with the Sennheiser Momentum On-ear headphones. The available colors for this series are blue, pistachio, pink and ivory.

Folding Shoe Concept

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

If one would ask me to go treat myself with some retail therapy, I’d be heading straight to shoe stores and as some avid shoppers know, it takes quite some skill to find good bargains when it comes to shoes. You’d have to take into account more than just the price but also the design and the workmanship of the shoe. Shoes need not be expensive, that is according to the designers Horatio Yuxin Han and Kevin Crowley. They’re the masterminds behind the folding shoe concept for Unifold. The idea behind their designs to make shoes more affordable to the masses.

We’re the Millers Movie Review

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 , 0 Comments

What capped off a stressful Friday for me last week was a few hours of loud laughter inside the cinema during the press screening for We’re the Millers. This new Jason Sudekis movie will surely have you laughing unashamedly at various points in the film. Even if it had a predictable plot, We’re the Millers has set a standard all its own with its hilarity. Strangely enough, the corny parts will even charm and captivate the audience while sneakily concluding the moment into cleverly timed lines that will invoke laughter. A great formula that worked very well for this film.

My Swoon and Embellish Purchases from Zalora

Monday, September 16, 2013 , 0 Comments

It took a while for me to blog about my latest purchase from Zalora, sorry about that, I’ve been a tad busy this past two weeks and I haven’t had a moment’s breather. Two items that came from my Zalora online shopping were a wallet and a multi-purpose purse. Both of them were made from textured leather and best of all, I got them at a discounted price. This is why I deem it important to be in their mailing list so that I’ll be in the know of the latest promos, flash sales and newest items.

From Embellish, I got this beautiful long black wallet which had a dainty floral embroidered lining and lots and lots of compartments.

2013 Book Review #45: The Journal of Curious Letters by James Dashner

Sunday, September 15, 2013 , 0 Comments

I found out about the 13th Reality Book Series when I was looking through the author page of James Dashner on Goodreads and I had loved his work with The Maze Runner. Proof that the YA novel has reached such a large audience is the movie that’s due to come out next year. I do have a soft spot when it comes to long-running book series especially if it’s from an author that I love. To date, there’s five books in this series and although it’s aimed for a much younger audience, I felt that it would be a nice break from some of the more serious novels I read.

Going Bold and Bright with the Revlon Nail Art: Neon Polish

Sunday, September 15, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the beauty products that I got from the April BDJ Box was the Revlon Nail Art Neon Polish and since that box had a summer theme to it, the polish was a gorgeous bright magenta color that suits my funky personality just fine. My normal polish color preferences are almost always bright and deep colors. I don’t typically go for pales and pastels because they don’t usually go with my skin. I usually change my nail polish during the weekends and I treat is as something of a therapy. I don’t like going to nail salons and have a stranger poke at my nails. Besides, I’m also very ticklish. :P

2013 Book Review#44: Hunted by Kevin Hearne (Iron Druid Chronicles #6)

Thursday, September 12, 2013 , 0 Comments

I have been following the adventures of Atticus O’Sullivan for a while now ever since I’ve become acquainted with the Iron Druid Chronicles series, even to the point of reading the short stories in between the publication of the books in the core novel. What I love about book #6, Hunted is that it takes you right into the action on the very first chapter. Atticus is running for his life alongside Granuaile and Oberon and you have no inkling of what’s going on. If you’ve ever wondered how it would feel to run at top speed without pausing for a moment’s rest, Atticus’ account will give you a fairly good picture.

hunted-kevin-hearne
Atticus is by no means a heavyweight in the world of mythology but being one of the two druids left and having killed Thor does have its bearing and he had proven in the past that he is by no means going to be pushed around especially by bullying entities. Gone were the days of anonymity and nowadays, Atticus is on every god’s hit list.

Hunted
Atticus is being pursued by the goddesses of the hunt, Artemis and Diana as revenge for what Atticus had done to Bacchus. As if that weren’t enough and a handful to deal with, Atticus is also hunted by Loki, the god of mischief and Ragnarok was threatening to be unleashed on the world.

Good til the last page
In the past novels, most of the book is told in Atticus’ point of view and it was refreshing to hear insights from Granuaile and Oberon here as well. It was non-stop action from start til the end and fans will surely love the twist that will make you sit up and pay attention. Dog lovers will be touched by how loyal Oberon is to his master.

More Hauntings in Insidious:Chapter 2

Wednesday, September 11, 2013 , 0 Comments

After the huge success of The Conjuring, director James Wan brings us the awaited sequel for the movie Insidious. The showing for Insidious: Chapter 2 is slated for next week and I’m sure horror movie buffs are already excited. The title itself describes how the pace for the movie will be as exhibited by the events in the first film. The gradual yet eventful scares are almost at a guarantee as the plot builds up to a climactic conclusion. Insidious: Chapter 2 brings back the original cast to continue the story of the Lambert family as they begin to be tormented by the evil entity that they had thought they had subdued in the first film.

Intricate Art Noveau Wood Collages

Wednesday, September 11, 2013 0 Comments

Woodworking wasn’t one of the subjects that had been offered in any of the art classes I attended but I did get to experiment with it when I had some balsa wood to work for a scale model. An Argentinean artist and designer named Francisco Miranda works in such medium. Take a look at his wood collages that show off his native origins and inspired somewhat by Art Noveau forms with a mix of a little bit of Art Deco.

Paranoia Brings Back Acting Greats in Suspense Thriller

Wednesday, September 11, 2013 , 0 Comments

With our future leaning towards to more sophisticated and complicated tech, power now lies in the development of these technologies. The movie Paranoia pits two acting greats together in a film about clashing tech billionaires who will stop nothing in their rivalry to destroy the competition. Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford both play ruthless and wealthy characters aiming for global success and motivated by greed. It had been 16 years since the pair have been seen together in a film, the last being Air Force One.

A Peek into The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Monday, September 09, 2013 , , 0 Comments

They say that endless possibilities are only bound by the limits of your imagination. That’s what came to mind when I saw the first trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which is directed and starred in by Ben Stiller. You can view the trailer at the end of this post. In the movie, Walter Mitty is just an ordinary guy who never gets the praise and recognition that he deserves despite the fact that he does everything so well. Sounds familiar right?

Justin Timberlake Plays a Deadly Gamble in Runner Runner

Sunday, September 08, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Justin Timberlake is one of those pop stars who has made a seamless transition in becoming an actor. His movies had all received positive feedback and his acting is actually at par with most Hollywood stars. One of the reasons that I am looking forward to the movie Runner Runner is seeing Justin Timberlake act opposite co-stars Ben Affleck and Gemma Arterton. In the film, Justin Timberlake plays the role of a Princeton grad students named Richie who was struggling to scrape all the money he could to pay for his tuition.

2013 Book Review #43: Joyland by Stephen King

Friday, September 06, 2013 , 0 Comments

It had been quite some time since I last read a Stephen King book but what prompted me to read Joyland was its book cover. The internationally released book cover featured a somewhat vintage look plus the fact that it was set in a spooky carnival made it all the more appealing to me. It conveyed this nostalgic feeling of a good old horror story set in an amusement park.

Welcome to Joyland
The story centers on the life of a college student Devin Jones and how he has come to work in Joyland as its foremost mascot. He had recently lost his girlfriend and was finding a strange friendship with the carnival’s owner and a dying boy who he passed one day going home. Inside Joyland was the funhouse of fear which they say was haunted and the scene of a vicious murder.

Dwayne Johnson Takes on the Role of Hercules

I just found out about this a few minutes ago and I just HAD to write about this awesome piece of news. I’ve been subscribed as a fan of Dwayne Johnson on Facebook and I saw this. I didn’t know that he would be playing the part of Hercules next year in the movie, Hercules: The Thracian Wars.

The Plights and Downfalls in Elysium: An Elysium Movie Review

Wednesday, September 04, 2013 , 0 Comments

What got me curious about the movie Elysium was the dystopian world that it was set in. I’ve always been a sucker for such apocalyptic plots and Elysium looked to be the movie to give me my sci-fi film fix for the month. I was also especially curious about the man in the exo-skeleton suit which was the character named Max played by Matt Damon. He will apparently go head to head with a stern-looking and highly elitist Secretary of Defense, Secretary Delacourt played by Jodie Foster.

Much of Elysium’s plot was already pretty much revealed in the trailers so when I got to see the film, I wanted to get a feel of the film’s settings and cinematography. In truth, there wasn’t much buzz surrounding the film to generate a build-up of hype so my expectations were not very high but still, it looked to be a film that had fantastic explosions and great action scenes and I wanted to be satisfied.
