Debut of the X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 , 0 Comments

Last night, I was among the legions of fans who awaited the international release of the first trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Excitingly, this is one of the most revered story arcs from the comics. The movie will bring about the ultimate battle as the X-Men struggles to fight a war across two time periods. They (the beloved characters from the original trilogy) will join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class. They will then be in an epic battle to change the past in order to save the future.

100 Things I love #1 to #5

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 0 Comments

During the long weekend, I was looking over some of the categories that I have on this blog and how I’ve gotten to neglecting some of them including my 100 Things I love series. So I’ve decided that it’s high time to do a re-boot. For the entries that I’ve already written, I saw that I’ve grown out of some of the items there already, hence the strong desire to do a fresher update.

Like before, the entries are in no way numbered according to rank. These are arranged at random.

#1 PURPLE
First thing that one would notice about me in person is the abundance of this color among my things. My favorite color will always be purple, particularly those in the dark and middle hues. My second favorite color is mint green. In color psychology, the color purple means…
· Having either purple or violet as your favorite color means you are sensitive and compassionate, understanding and supportive, thinking of others before yourself - you are the person others come to for help - being needed motivates you but sometimes people take advantage of you.
· You are a gentle and free spirit. Your feelings run deep and you can be quite sensitive to hurtful comments from others, although you would never show it.

It’s about Time, Plants vs Zombies 2 on Android

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Finally, after the uber extended reign of Angry Birds when it came to mobile and casual gaming, Plants vs. Zombies is back with a sequel. The sequel is aptly named too with it’s subtitle being “It’s about time”. That is so right, it had been too long. While it was initially released for Apple devices, it has also recently invaded the Google Play Store.

Get Creative with PIP Camera

Friday, October 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

I’m always on the lookout for fun photo editing apps on the Google Play Store and as you may well know that are a LOT! However, there’s only so much that a new app can offer that can set it apart to more established photography apps like Camera 360 and Pixlr-o-matic. These are my top 2 photography apps on my Android phone. So it's just a matter of a good photo collage app or editors to give  photos from the two mentioned photography app a more creative twist. I think that the PIP Camera can be a fun choice app to try out.

Beauty on the Go: Too Cool for School Lip Gloss and BB Cream

Friday, October 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

I received the Too Cool for School Mini-Lip Gloss and BB Cream separately from the September and July BDJ Boxes. Upon seeing them, I liked them immediately. I was charmed by the whimsical feel of the graphics in the packaging. Judging from the brand too, it looks to be beauty products that are aimed for younger consumers. Still, the travel-sized beauty products might also be appealing to everyone as well.

The New Poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Friday, October 25, 2013 , 0 Comments

Just last weekend I was watching Marvel’s The Avengers on cable and again even if I’ve already seen it several times, I found myself transfixed on the movie. What the heroes did after the events in New York are now being revealed in each of their own movies. Tony Stark faced his worst fears in Iron Man 3 and now we see the return of Captain America played by Chris Evans in the upcoming movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Joining him in this film are Samuel L. Jackson as Director Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

At the heart of the Wikileaks Scandal is a figure known as Julian Assange and his visionary endeavors have been questioned by some to be as much as a revelation as well as a burden.

Make Interesting Collages with the Instamag App

Monday, October 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

Your immediate answer might be the pictures of course and yes you’re right but lately I’ve been recognizing the importance of how the layout of a collage makes an impact too. This app that I’ve recently began using makes this very easy. The Instamag-Magazine Collage app is fast becoming my favorite app to make photo collages.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Sunday, October 20, 2013 0 Comments

For someone who works in the design field, I’ve familiarized myself with the various international design styles that are prevalent in the fields of Architecture and Interior Design. During my studies in college, we were able to define the patterns and identify the significant events in history that influence the period styles. What most people don’t have is an appreciation of how distinct Filipino Architecture is. This is why Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is such a perfect travel destination for a heritage tour.

7 Healthy New Habits to Develop

Here we are well into October and I just can’t believe that we are almost through the entire year. Don’t you sometimes feel that everything is just moving so fast and you just want to be in control again? More so, the fast-paced and stressful lifestyle almost always makes us forget to live a healthy life. So this post is as much for me as it is for you guys. It’s nice to have a constant reminder.

7 Healthy New Habits to Develop

MEDITATE
This is one thing I’ve been meaning to do more of. I’ve tried once or twice when I joined the 21-day meditation challenge a few months back but then life happened and stress took over once again. Mental note: make more time to meditate.

One of the movies that I’m looking forward to seeing next year is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Android Game Review: Elevator Joe

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 , , 0 Comments

One of the games I’ve been playing the past weeks had been Elevator Joe by Kuyi Mobile. It’s a really entertaining casual game that you can download for free on the Google Play Store. Be warned though, this game can get addicting.
elevator-joe-app-review-01 elevator-joe-app-review-04
The object of the game in Elevator Joe is to help old Joe in manning his elevator and to accomplish special tasks for each day. While doing that you get visits from a dinosaur whose roars shake the whole building. Each floor has a passenger with a talk balloon with a number which signifies which floor they want to go to. If you don’t hurry in bringing each one to their proper floors, they’ll start to get mad and give you a negative rating.

L’Occitane Hand Cream

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the products that I received from the September BDJ Box is a hand cream from L’Occitane. Before I start my product review though, does one really need a hand cream?
LOccitane-Hand-cream-01
Why you should use a hand cream
Aside from the face, one of the very first places in your body that shows the first signs of aging are your hands. If you use a moisturizer on your face like Ahava Essential Day Moisturizer, isn’t it just logical to use one on your hands too? Studies have shown that frequent washing can result in dry skin, hand creams are usually the first go-to solution.

Movie Review: Arthur Newman

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 , 0 Comments

Have you ever felt that you’ve reached the lowest point in your life and you want a fresh start? That must have been what Wallace Avery (Colin Firth) felt in the movie Arthur Newman. When I read the synopsis for the film, I expected an uplifting film about self-renewal and fresh starts. In truth, the movie came up short of my expectations but it also was an eye-opener of some kind too.

Hello, I am Arthur Newman
Wallace Avery was fed up with his life as a washed-up pro-golfer and had been suffering from severe depression. To make matters worse, he has a son that he can’t seem to connect with. On a fateful day, he fakes his own death and sets out to live a new life with a new identity in Arthur Newman. On his journey, he meets Mike (Emily Blunt). She is also running away from who she is.

Carrie Re-Imagined

Monday, October 14, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Probably one of the very first Stephen King novels that I’ve read is Carrie and very fittingly so because it’s also the novel that launched his career as one of the literary greats when it comes to the horror genre. In Carrie, it tells of the tale of a lonely teenager who lived with a religiously fanatic mother. She was an outcast and poked too much fun off by the “cool” kids. This prestigious role went to Chloe Grace Moretz.

No more Frizz with the Vidal Sassoon Magic Style Activator for Curls

Sunday, October 13, 2013 , 0 Comments

After getting another digiperm last April at Beauty Brick Salon, I’m now in the process of growing out my curls. They’ve started to loosen up and it’s almost mandatory that I style it with hair products. My everyday morning routine usually involves hair mousse while my hair is still damp from the shower. So when I received a sampler to try out of the Vidal Sassoon Magic Style Activator for Curls, I wanted to see if it will be my go-to product for my hair. The product was included in the September BDJ Box. vidal-sasoon-curl-activator

Book Review #49: The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney

Saturday, October 12, 2013 , 0 Comments

I started to read this book in preparation for the movie The Seventh Son and upon searching in Goodreads, I saw how long this series had been running. The novel is the first of 13 books that has gotten an international fanbase. I figured that if I liked this one then I’ll have a healthy list of to-read books to add to my reading challenge.

Keep an Explorer Window on Top with DeskPins

Thursday, October 10, 2013 0 Comments

While doing some drawing details for a bookshelf yesterday, I was getting annoyed at how I kept flipping program windows back and forth. I realized that I desperately wanted to keep the picture viewer window on top of my AutoCAD application. Sadly, this is not a built-in feature for Windows OS systems. Some programs have it (like media players) but for windows explorer, nope. Sure I can just re-size the window of my AutoCAD application so that I can see the image file at the side but I wanted the full maximize use of my screen and a small image window on the side for reference. Like so.

Lego Watches

Wednesday, October 09, 2013 , 0 Comments

Just when you thought that you’ve seen all things done in Lego, they come up with the Lego watch for adults. They of course, have the Lego brand and the identifiable Lego heads integrated into the design. They mostly come in red, blue, yellow and black but it was announced that they’ll come out in pink and orange too. So ladies, let the geek in you come out. They don’t look half bad either, in fact I sort of want one especially the white or the yellow.

Get your very Own Custom Stamp

Tuesday, October 08, 2013 , 0 Comments

My love affair with stamps started when I became interested with scrapbooking and collecting colorful memo pads. For me, it was proving too much of a hassle (and expensive) to go out and have personalized stationery done. I’ll only end up not using the entire pad or reserving it for rare and special occasions. When I venture out to buy stamps, I also couldn’t find one that I could say was truly my own. So when a friend of mine started a company called Crafted, their custom stamps caught my eye.

Emily Blunt Stars in Arthur Newman

Tuesday, October 08, 2013 , 0 Comments

Here’s one interesting trivia about Emily Blunt, she used to have a stammer but eventually overcame it with a teacher’s help. So now that she has made a name for herself being an actress, I think that it’s one great achievement especially when she has played so many diverse roles requiring her to shift in between accents from her native Brit tongue. The first time I saw her was in The Devil Wears Prada, one of my most favorite movies of all time. I also really enjoyed seeing her in other films like The Adjustment Bureau and Looper.

Doggies Wall Calendar from Polkka Jam

Just last week when I was at a bookstore, I’ve already seen 2014 planners and desk calendars on their island racks. I couldn’t help but comment on how early the displays and the merchandise were. Well, I soon began to notice that online selling sites have followed the trend too. Normally, I wouldn’t pay much notice to the items being sold since 2014 is still a few months away but I just can’t let this Doggies wall calendar pass. It’s just too cute not to write about.

The Latest Trailer for Rio 2

Sunday, October 06, 2013 , , 0 Comments

When I watched the first Rio movie, I was literally in awe of the explosion of colors when the birds came on-screen. There were doing this chorus of song that was also an explosion of colorful feathers and beautiful sound. The movie also gave an important message about endangered species and the illegal practice of poaching. In Rio 2, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) are continuing to raise their family from the city of Rio to the wilds of the Amazon.

October New Books to Read

Sunday, October 06, 2013 0 Comments

I’ve only got twenty more books to read to complete my 2013 reading challenge over at Goodreads and here’s some more to add to my ever growing list of books to read. These are the ones I’ve selected from the Goodreads October newsletter.
The Signature of All Things Elizabeth Gilbert
signature-of-all-things
This is the latest novel from the famous author of the book Eat, Pray, Love. I enjoyed that book immensely as well as the movie adaptation. It’s nice to see Elizabeth Gilbert trying her writing skills with another genre altogether from her last book. In The Signature of All Things, she writes a historical novel that tells of a heroine who has lived in the cusp of the Industrial Revolution.

From the initial reviews of fellow Goodreads members, so far the response had been very positive. I can’t wait to get my very own copy of this book. Normally I don’t go for historical novels but for this book I’ll make an exception.

2013 Book Review #48: The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson

Sunday, October 06, 2013 , 0 Comments

I thought to read this book because I was curious about what being a Rithmatist was and what chalklings were. I of course only know of arithmancy as Hermione’s favorite subject in Hogwarts. Plus I was also interested to start a new book series.

Plot
Joel is the son of a lowly chalk make and his greatest dream is to be a Rithmatist. Sadly, he’s not one of the privileged. He used to sneak in classes or watch other students when they’re out in the yard. Suddenly, Rithmatist students started to disappear one by one. Each crime scene had a series of ruined chalklings and blood in them. When Joel had been hired as an apprentice to a professor who had been assigned to investigate the crimes, Joel becomes part of new discoveries that will shake the whole meaning of being a Rithmatist.

For someone who has a genuine fascination with space, watching a space movie is definitely a treat. Gravity in particular was one space movie that is not to be missed. From the trailers released, the movie highlights one real fear if you should be privileged enough to venture out into space-that fear of getting lost in it. Coupled with that is dying somewhere out there from lack of oxygen and being alone during your last moments. That, I think, would be one of the worst ways to go.

Not like other space movies
Gravity starts off with a glorious shot of the Earth, the kind that takes your breath away. Then it slowly pans to where Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) were tethered to a space station while doing some external shuttle repairs. From the first few minutes we can already gather that Dr. Stone hasn’t gotten quite the hang of being in space yet and she was feeling a bit “space sick”, the equivalent of being sea-sick in space.

The Foodimals from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

If you’ve ever gone crazy doodling on a sketchpad and just letting your imagination go wild, then you’ll probably come up with weird-looking and extraordinary sketches. Well, at least that’s what I thought the artists from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 did when they came up with the concepts for the foodimals in the movie. The “foodimals” are a mash-up between food and animals that have evolved from the still sinister Flint Lockwood Diatomic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator, or FLDSMDFR for short.

It might seem ridiculous at first to bring together a design that merges a a cheeseburger and a spider but viewing it with a creative eye, it sounds so much fun. I can’t wait to see the foodimals come alive on the big-screen when Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is released in theaters on October 9, 2013.
