How to Train your Dragon 2 Releases Teaser Poster

Friday, November 29, 2013 , 0 Comments

Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless are back in How to Train your Dragon 2 from Dreamworks Animation and 20th Century Fox. I just love this teaser poster for the movie. Take note of Toothless’ piercing lime green eyes. Hiccup is far from the cowardly lad that we saw in the first film, here he is in complete leather armor.

More Farming Fun with Hay Day

Thursday, November 28, 2013 , , 0 Comments

When Farmville from Zynga was THE game to play on Facebook, I wasn’t swept along by the trend even though my friends kept sending me requests. I’m no stranger to farming games myself so I know just how addicting they can be and I didn’t want to say goodbye to an entire day of productivity by just playing. However, since I really haven’t played a farming game in a while, I decided to look for a free farming game on the Google Play Store. My first candidate was Hay Day.

2013 Book Review #52 A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

Thursday, November 28, 2013 , 0 Comments

I'm a huge fan of the Sherlock Holmes movies and while I enjoyed them immensely especially with Robert Downey Jr. playing the role of Sherlock. I honestly cannot imagine anyone else playing the role. Anyway, I shamefully ventured to read my first Sherlock with this year's reading challenge. A Study in Scarlet was the book that gave way to the legend and hopefully get me interested enough to read through the entire series.

Get to Know the Wonders of Argan Oil

Thursday, November 28, 2013 , 0 Comments

The latest beauty product that has got everyone abuzz is Argan oil. It comes from the pressed nut of the Argan tree which is only found in Morocco. The fruit is only produced when the tree is 30 to 50 years old which makes the oil quite rare. This is why Argan oil is sometimes coined as “liquid gold” and a bit expensive. It’s proven to be quite effective for various beauty uses and can be used as an all-around oil for the body.

The Redemption of The Hunger Games Movie Franchise with Catching Fire

Wednesday, November 27, 2013 , 0 Comments

I was a bit hesitant to see the sequel of The Hunger Games when I absolutely hated the first film. However, since there was a new director and the second book was my favorite in the trilogy, I decided that I simply couldn’t miss it. I still had high expectations though and I was crossing my fingers for them not to mess it up.

Unconventional Candle Scents

Monday, November 25, 2013 0 Comments

Just last week I was browsing the many candles at the home section of the department store. I remember wrinkling my nose and suppressing a sneeze as the scents of lavender, rose, vanilla and other candle scents threatened to overwhelm my olfactory sense. I finally settled on choosing an ocean breeze scented candle to light at my work desk. That’s what I remembered when I saw these unconventional candle scents made by Kathy Werking to celebrate the scents of the Commonwealth.

Watch Aaron Paul in this New Need for Speed Trailer

Saturday, November 23, 2013 , , 0 Comments

Have you ever wondered what it is about the rumbling sound of car engines that get our hearts beating just a tad faster even if we’re not behind the wheel? Well, at least that’s the effect on me whenever I watch racing movies or play racing games. One of the most successful titles when it comes to the racing genre in video games is Need for Speed and though it was a long time coming, it’s finally making its way to the big screen. Oh and guess what, it’s starring Aaron Paul. Just in case you’re having a bad case of Breaking Bad withdrawal, here’s another chance to see everyone’s favorite bad boy.

Get a Chance to Win a Kindle Fire HD for Charity

Saturday, November 23, 2013 0 Comments

Graham Parke, one of the acclaimed authors especially in the social networking site Goodreads, is giving away a Kindle Fire HD. This close to the holidays, this can be an awesome treat. One that will be treasured by everyone especially bookworms like me. However, let me allow him to tell you about it himself. Here’s a post written by Graham Parke
♥
“I'm very polite by nature, even the voices in my head let each other finish their sentences.” – from Completely Flappable
Don’t you just hate it when you have a thousand little thoughts rattling around your brain, good for nothing but keeping you up at night? Ideas, worries, mental reminders for the next day? My voices can get pretty insistent, and mostly this is a nuisance, but sometimes it’s okay, when there’s a story idea or two among the ramblings. And rarely, very rarely, I get what I think is a really good idea, but one that I don't know what to do with. For instance, a while ago it occurred to me that it’s probably not governments or big corporations that wield the world’s greatest financial power. I think it’s us. All the little people together.

2013 Book Review #51 The Curse of the Bane by Joseph Delaney

Thursday, November 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

Whenever I get to reading a book series, experience has taught me that the second book almost always trumps the first one. The Curse of the Bane is no exception and I’m happy to read about Thomas and Alice once again. I’m happy that Mr. Delaney wrote such interesting characters.

Idina Menzel Lends her Voice to Elsa, The Snow Queen in Frozen

Thursday, November 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

Idina Menzel’s claim to fame is the role she played in the famous Broadway play Wicked, the adaptation of the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West written by Gregory Maguire. You might not believe it but she was Elphaba, the green-skinned witch who just captured the hearts of everyone, no matter how wicked. In the upcoming Disney animation Frozen, she lends her voice to Elsa, the movie’s Snow Queen.

What’s New at Spiral Restaurant?

Thursday, November 21, 2013 , 0 Comments

Whenever I’m at the Spiral Buffet Restaurant, I get giddy for all the wonderful food that I’d get to taste. The restaurant is visually pleasing with classic French details and a myriad of wonderful patterns playing off a neutral palette. The staff is very friendly too and that really makes for an awesome dining experience aside from the good food. It amazes me that  for a buffet restaurant that’s already great, they still strive to give something more. This time around, Spiral Buffet Restaurant, one of the featured restaurants at Sofitel Philippine Plaza is offering something new.

With the abundance of Lego merchandise out there and with Lego being one of the most recognizable toy brands out there, it was bound for the big screen sometime soon. We’ll get to see the Lego Movie next year in February. The tagline for the movie is “The Story of a Nobody Who Saved Everybody.” Who doesn’t want to see an inspiring underdog story right? We’ll get to meet Emmet (voice of Chris Pratt) as he embarks on a journey to save the world.

100 Things I love #11 to #15

Monday, November 18, 2013 0 Comments

11 COFFEE
I’m an avid coffee drinker and it’s only fitting that I put down here my favorite drink. I won’t deny the addicting properties of a cup of joe but I’ve learned to just enjoy at least one each day. I’ve curbed the urge to drink at least 3 more. Who can resist the aroma of freshly brewed coffee at the start of your day right? It’s what gets me started in the morning.

Yves Rocher Naturelle Eau de Toilette

Sunday, November 17, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the signature scents that I’m wearing these past few days is Yves Rocher Naturelle Eau de Toilette. The perfume bottle came inside the November BDJ Box. What I love most about it is its vintage floral scent which I’m in the mood for nowadays. The scent notes for Naturelle include facets of crisp green apple, an Egyptian jasmine, peach blossoms and hints of cedar, amber and musk.

Finally, a Teaser Poster for Maleficent

Thursday, November 14, 2013 , 0 Comments

The captivating poster features Angelina Jolie all decked out in the evil garb and head dress that made Maleficent one of the most memorable villains in fairy tale history. Maleficent, will open our eyes to the tale behind Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty”. Here is a glimpse of who Maleficent was and how she wasn’t really evil to begin with. What tragic tale will she reveal? How did a pure-hearted woman gain a heart of stone?

Check out the Character Posters from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Wednesday, November 13, 2013 , 0 Comments

The last epic film we’ll get to see this year is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. In my part of the world, it is set for release in 2d, 3d and IMAX theaters on December 11. What I’m most excited to see in the second film of the trilogy are the elves. Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) and the band of dwarves are still enroute to The Lonely Mountain where they’re hoping to reclaim the lost dwarven kingdom from the clutches of Smaug. While in the forest of Mirkwood however, will they find allies or enemies?

Excited for the Divergent Movie

Wednesday, November 13, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the most successful YA novel series that was launched after The Hunger Games Trilogy was the Divergent book series by Veronica Roth. In fact, I’m currently reading the third book and I’m as hooked as ever. Fans have found a new heroine in Tris Prior and this role was won by Shailene Woodley. The movie will revolve around Tris and the dystopian world she is living in. The society is divided into factions.

Brace Yourself for Horrible Bosses 2

Tuesday, November 12, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the most hilarious films I’ve seen in 2011 was Horrible Bosses. Good news, they’re bringing the boys back. This time around, Nick, Dale and Kurt played by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis have started their own business and are now bosses in their own right. Right before their business can properly take off, a slick competitor took them out. Seeking revenge, they launch a crazy plan to kidnap the son in order to take over their business.

Storm Aftermath

Tuesday, November 12, 2013 0 Comments

I’m sure that by now you’ve all heard about the Category 5 hurricane that wreaked havoc and devastation here in the Philippines last Friday. Typhoon Haiyan was the world’s strongest storm for this year and unfortunately, it hit my country. Days before it made landfall, news reports were already coming in, warning us of the strength of the storm. Manila wasn’t in it’s direct path and was for the most part spared but it didn’t mean that we didn’t feel the brute force of it. By Friday night, there were strong gusts of wind and moderate rain. We slept warily that night, praying that the storm will not change its course.

The Fashion Amidst The Counselor

Monday, November 11, 2013 , , 0 Comments

When you dabble into the complicated world of drugs and money, you’re certainly flirting with luxury, frivolousness and danger. This is what The Counselor, (Michael Fassbender) found out when he made the grave mistake of partaking in a shady and illegal business deal. Betrayed by his so-called friend, Westray (Brad Pitt), he has made an enemy of a nightclub owner named Reiner (Javier Bardem) whose life is the picturesque illusion of the perks of money and power. Together with his girlfriend Malkina (Cameron Diaz), they make The Counselor see what a brutal criminal underworld is.

2013 Book Review #50: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Gray

Saturday, November 09, 2013 , 0 Comments

To be honest, I stayed away from Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Gray even after seeing it on my sister’s bookshelf. If I had known how much of an eye opener it was, I would have read it sooner. For a woman, this book explains away most of the behaviors that men exhibit that leave most women baffled and extremely frustrated. After reading the book, you’ve always known by instinct that men and women are very different, just how much is revealed in this book. You’ll be surprised, just as I was.

The Latest Trailer for Robocop

Saturday, November 09, 2013 , , 0 Comments

I have pretty vague memories of watching the original Robocop movie from my childhood so this re-boot comes in a very opportune time. The plot remains similar to the first film with OmniCorp seeking to bring their technology as a forerunner in the home front. A golden opportunity was presented to them when a good cop named Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) was critically injured in the line of duty.

Food Network Shows I’m Addicted to

The Book Thief Trailer

Friday, November 08, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the best books I’ve read is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and I’m thrilled that they’re making a movie adaptation of it. I just hope that it’s one that is made right. The story tells of how a courageous young girl named Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) lived during the time of World War II and despite the death and tragedies in her life, she still managed to touch the lives of everyone around her.

Now Watching: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Friday, November 08, 2013 , 0 Comments

One of the shows that I’ve started to look forward to each week is Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It features everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, you know the one you always see in the Marvel movies, Agent Coulson. While I’ve started to love the show, you won’t believe the backlash it’s getting from fanboys and Marvel purists. Regardless, I’m still a fan and I think the show has enough going on and mystery to make me watch all season long.

Tahiti
If you’ve been watching the show, you might have heard them mention Tahiti several times. They say it’s a magical place. The more they talk about it vaguely, the more I begin to suspect that it’s just code for something. My theory though is that it’s really a secret lab. Maybe they did something to Agent Coulson, after all he was supposed to be already dead right?

Agent Coulson
I’m very happy that he’s in the limelight and happy that he carries the show too. It’s nice to see more of him and not just glimpses. I’m wondering though, why do they keep saying that he’s different. I want to see more of his skills in the coming episodes. What made him such a great S.H.I.E.L.D. agent?

Josh Holloway in Battle of the Year

Tuesday, November 05, 2013 , 0 Comments

The last time I had seen Josh Holloway was in the movie Paranoia where he had a minor role as an FBI agent. Then before that, I saw him also in an episode in the TV show Community during their paintball wars. His claim to fame was being the hottie Sawyer in Lost, one J.J. Abram’s successful TV shows. Who would have guessed that his next role on the big screen would be as a dance coach? Yep, I didn’t see that coming either. Yet in Battle of the Year, he’ll do just that.

Carrie Movie Review

Tuesday, November 05, 2013 , 0 Comments

When the announcement came for a re-make of the Carrie movie, I couldn’t believe it. Then I started to recall how the old movie was like and to be frank, I can only remember one key scene and that was what made Carrie memorable. However, since this movie was starring Chloe Grace Moretz,, one of the bright young actresses in Hollywood and who I happen to like, it looked to be interesting enough. Also, it was based on the Stephen King novel that put him on the literary scene so I guess, the movie could be received well. However, weeks before it was shown in the country, I’ve already heard some bad reviews about it. Still, I wanted to see it for myself before I could give an honest assessment.

Sticky Notes for the Photography Enthusiast

Monday, November 04, 2013 , , 0 Comments

I have a confession to make. At my work desk at home, right beside my desktop PC is a box which houses my sticky notes collection. Yes I have a lot. Whenever I’m at an office supplies store, I find myself wandering towards the cute sticky notes and end up buying a lot. Well, I use them if you’re wanting to ask. This is why the documents I hand out at work usually have sticky notes on them. Here’s one that I want and has caught my eye.

It’s all About Zombies now

A Look at Zambezia

Saturday, November 02, 2013 , 0 Comments

What is Zambezia you ask? Well it’s an amazing bird city in Africa and if you think you’ve seen enough animations this year, there’s always room for one more bird animation right? So here’s Zambezia, the movie that is based from the city. The movie tells of the story of a young falcon named Kai (Jeremy Suarez) and his ambition to join the Hurricane defense flyers. These are the birds that patrol the skies and are trained by Ajax (Jeff Goldblum).
