Where I’ve Been

Monday, December 29, 2014 0 Comments

We’re down to the last 3 days of the year. Can you believe it? Oh and today is officially the last work day of 2014. I think no one is in a working mode though. I bet, most will be clock watching until it’s time to go home again. I relish the thought of enjoy a 6-day holiday break once more. Woot! Oh and looking at the date stamp of my last blog post, it’s the longest I’ve gone without posting anything here. My apologies for that. I’m also taking a look at my post counter at the sidebar and by far, 2014 chronicles the fewest blog posts I’ve published. It hasn’t been a good year for me. I’m only too ready to say goodbye to it. So what have I been up to?

Printable Doll Ornaments

Wednesday, December 17, 2014 0 Comments

For days now, we have been feeling extreme traffic in the Metro (even on off-peak hours). The daily torment of bad traffic has now more than doubled the travel time to and fro. Sometimes, I would just prefer to go straight home from work rather than suffer through wasted time crawling through congested streets. The Christmas Rush is definitely here. Everyone is just out and about.

The Walk Thrills in this Teaser Trailer

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 , , , 0 Comments

I've always admired Joseph Gordon-Levitt for his capability to choose roles that are not only physically challenging but memorable as well. This is especially true in his latest upcoming film, The Walk. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and is based from French high wire artist Philippe Petit's book, "To Reach the Clouds".

Deadly Puzzles: Toymaker

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 , , 0 Comments

I don't usually scour the Google Play Store for hidden-object kind of games except for the times when my mom needs new games on her tablet. This is more her kind of game than mine but when I saw Deadly Puzzles: Toymaker and read the game description, I couldn't help but be interested in trying it out. The game promised to be more than just a hidden-object game but also a kind of adventure game with psychological and crime thrills splashed in. True enough, when I first loaded the game, I was greeted by this loading screen. Already, those dolls freaked me out and all the more did I expect for the game to be worth my time.

The Epic Conclusion to The Hobbit Trilogy

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Probably the most awaited film this December is the third and final film for The Hobbit Trilogy. Finally, Bilbo’s journey is about to come to an end and what a spectacular end it’s shaping up to be. The last film with the title, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released in cinemas on December 12th. As early as now, I’ve seen several cinemas already selling tickets to the movie.

Christmas comes to Springfield and Quahog

Tuesday, December 09, 2014 , , 0 Comments

The only two games that I’ve been regularly playing in my tablet for the longest time are Simpsons: Tapped Out and Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff. Both games are free from the Google Play Store. For each holiday, you can expect a game update which gives you additional games and holiday exclusive characters to unlock in each game. This Christmas it’s no different. Both games are now very festive and very much emanating the Holiday Spirit.

Christmas in Springfield
The holiday update for Simpsons: Tapped Out involves a lot of Christmas Elves. They’ve practically invaded and Santa has selected residents working hard for him at the Toy Factory.

Daniel Craig will be back next year as the world’s most loved super spy in the movie Spectre. Returning to the film as well are Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear. The great news is that an addition of exceptional actors will make the movie’s plot more interesting. These are Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Andrew Scott.

Guess who will be the Sorcerer Supreme

Monday, December 08, 2014 , , 0 Comments

One of the movies coming out during Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Doctor Strange. When talk of this movie came out months back, I wasn’t at all excited that Joaquin Phoenix was being tapped for the role. I didn’t think that he looked the part and that he was right for the role. So guess what? It’s now official, Benedict Cumberbatch will be the Sorcerer Supreme! He is now the latest actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe which I’m sure will thrill his fans worldwide.

Things you can do at Island Cove Hotel & Leisure Park

Thursday, December 04, 2014 , , , 0 Comments

If you've been wanting a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and you don't even have time to make travel plans or let alone pack for a long trip, here's somewhere you can go to that doesn't require a very long drive. I know you must be thinking Tagaytay or Laguna but nope, this place I will recommend is just in Cavite.

You may have already heard of Island Cove and have probably visited it at one point in the past but I think it's a great time to visit it again now. To give you an idea of just how near it is, it's just 15 minutes from the Mall of Asia. Yet, the place can already give your a temporary refugee from stress. It is with this thought that had Druce and me driving away from the Metro traffic and into a nice weekend getaway.

Things you can do at Island Cove

This is a list of the things I got to do while I was at Island Cove, there are a few more activities that I didn't get to try and could be a few more reasons why I should go back.

1 Wildlife Sanctuary
This is the best thing that I like about Island Cove, is that it provides a home for animals that have been otherwise confiscated or unwanted by their owners. Take not that this is not a zoo but a wildlife habitat. What did I do here? Let me tell you in photos.

Say Hello to More Productivity with the 2015 BDJ Power Planner

Tuesday, December 02, 2014 , , 0 Comments

I had been an avid user of the Belle de Jour Power Planners ever since it came out. It had been my constant companion through the years in planning my days, keeping me organized and helping me to visualize my goals. I had loved the design then and I'm loving the dedication and effort they've been putting into it each year. It was also the first planner to ever offer lots and lots of discount coupons from partnered merchants. In short, it's a planner too good to pass up. Now, I'm more than happy to get my hands on the 2015 BDJ Power Planner that is much improved and more geared to productivity than ever.

Pan Debuts Teaser Trailer and Character Posters

Sunday, November 30, 2014 , , 0 Comments

If you think that the tale of Peter Pan had been told over so many times, here’s an origin story that sheds new light into the tale. After having watched the trailer, I am pretty sure that I am going to like this film. From the glimpses of key scenes I’ve seen, I love the creative way they’ve done the re-telling. It also features big stars like Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund.

Just take a look at Hugh Jackman below, he’s almost unrecognizable! It’s thrilling to have him play a very different role and a villain at that. I can’t wait to see his interpretation of the most infamous pirate of all.

Of Schemes and Such (A Horrible Bosses 2 Movie Review)

Friday, November 28, 2014 , 0 Comments

Ask anyone you know, most everyone wants to be their own boss at one point in their lives. More so for the three lead characters in the movie sequel, Horrible Bosses 2. Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudekis) and Dale (Charlie Day) are back to reprise their roles from the hit comedy movie, Horrible Bosses which was shown back in 2011. Since I had loved the first film, I more or less knew what to expect in the second film. However, with the addition of two stellar actors, I couldn’t help but expect more. Joining the cast are Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz, the father and son tandem who would bring about the conflict in the film.

Pendergast, Pitch Perfect 2 and Acquiring Brush Lettering Skills

Tuesday, November 25, 2014 , , , , 0 Comments

It’s been a while since I’ve written a hodge-podge post. Aside from me turning a year older again yesterday, what has been happening lately? Well to start with, I’ve still been diligently trying to keep up with my Reading Challenge for the year with only 6 more books to go. Although I must admit that this year, I’ve pledged to read fewer books than the previous years, I’m still happy with my progress. Next year though it will be much  more different. The book I’ve recently finished is the latest book in the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. This is actually the 14th book in the series. Can you believe it?
blue-labyrinth-book
Well, I must tell you, for a book series as long running as this, it says a lot about the story, the characters and the authors themselves. Ever since I’ve read the first book, I’ve been hooked. Pendergast soon grew to be one of my most favorite book characters. Blue Labyrinth exceeded all my expectations so far and I think what makes this stand out is that not only was Pendergast as brilliant as ever, his allies showed themselves very formidable too. I loved this read, I gave it a well deserved 5-stars.

Experiencing Hair Science with Pantene Conditioners

Monday, November 24, 2014 , , 0 Comments

For someone like me who has a very hectic schedule everyday, I find it a mood dampener when I have to go about my day with my hair looking all limp and sad. Bad hair days don’t really contribute to productivity. Haha, I know that makes me sound shallow but I do like it when all I need to worry about my day is finishing my tasks and not worry about how I look. For the past three weeks, I’ve gone through a better understanding of what this means. I’ve been trying out several varieties of Pantene Conditioners and while I didn’t have a high regard of the brand before, I do so now.

Dean & Deluca Color Me! Thanksgiving Cookies

I’m currently in an artsy phase (more so than usual) and I’ve been wanting to try out more art materials than ever. So I think it will be obvious why I’m writing about Dean & Deluca’s Color Me! Thanksgiving Cookies which I saw on NotCot. The concept behind this treat is that you can write on pre-baked blank cookies with edible markers. Edible markers!! I didn’t know they made something like those!

Julianne Moore in Mockingjay Part 1

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 , 0 Comments

It’s only 2 days more before the opening of Mockingjay Part 1 in theaters and here’s a look at Julianne Moore as she joins the cast from the previous Hunger Games films as President Alma Coin. She is the enigmatic leader of District 13, a secret from the 12 existing Districts in Panem. After the events of the second film, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself in the middle of a rebellion, to which she is a central figure.

Movie Preview| Exodus: Gods & Kings

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the best things that I like about December is that it’s usually the month for epic films. On December 5th, we’ll finally be able to watch director Ridley Scott’s latest massive undertaking. Exodus: Gods & Kings stars Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses. The film is presented in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D format. Moses is one of the key figures in the Old Testament and his story is one that deserves only a master filmmaker to translate onscreen. Exodus: Gods & Kings aims not only to re-tell a well-known story but to bring to life the monumental journey of 400,000 slaves out of Egypt and the deadly plagues.

Chris Pine Joins Cast of Horrible Bosses 2 for some Comedy and Villany

Monday, November 17, 2014 , 0 Comments

If I were to name a list of charming actors in Hollywood right now, Chris Pine would be on the top of my list. Sure he has played lead roles so far but I have this sneaking suspicion that he’ll also play wonderfully as a villain. When he turns on his megawatt smile though, you’ll get instant confusion. This was one of the characteristics why he was chosen to play the role of Rex, son of an evil millionaire who goes by the name of Bert and is portrayed on the big screen by Christoph Waltz. This unlikely tandem of father and son is probably what makes Horrible Bosses 2 something to look forward to.

A Look at the Everything is Possible 2015 Planner

Monday, November 17, 2014 , 0 Comments

It was around a few weeks ago when someone asked me why I still kept a planner when I already have a smartphone and a tablet that has apps to take down my schedule. I told him that I liked keeping a planner to write in because I liked to see my handwriting. I told him that jokingly. Haha To be honest though, nothing beats jotting things down on paper. For the lifestyle I keep and all the things that I want to squeeze in my day, a planner is definitely a must.

Book Review #23 – The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

Sunday, November 16, 2014 , 0 Comments

The first time I’ve heard of the author, Jonathan Stroud was when I started to get into reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy. After reading that series though, I tried to like the Artemis Fowl series as well however, it didn’t quite take my fancy. So, I’m afraid I lost any more interest with his works. It was only recently that I happened to chance upon a new series written by Mr. Stroud and it was also timely that I had been looking for a good horror story to read. The cover for The Screaming Staircase was pretty awesome too.

Get to Know the Lead Cast in The Drop

Monday, November 10, 2014 , 0 Comments

As much as we would like for our society to be perfect, crime is happening right at this very second, somewhere around the world. The movie, The Drop centers on what it’s like to be living in a society that’s so plagued with crime that it becomes a normal part of their everyday lives. Tom Hardy stars as Bob, a simple bartender who tends the bar owned by his cousin, Marv (James Gandolfini). The bar becomes the temporary hiding place of Brooklyn crime bosses’ ill-gotten gains. When he rescues a pit bull puppy, he turns to his neighbor Nadia (Noomi Rapace) for help. Soon it was revealed that the puppy belonged to her ex-boyfriend. Bob’s organized world turns into chaos when the ex-boyfriend comes back and tries to take back the puppy and Nadia. Then a robbery at the bar happens to put  him in the crosshairs of a Chechen crime boss.

Shailene Woodley Stars in a Daring Role for White Bird in a Blizzard

Monday, November 10, 2014 , 0 Comments

Ever since I saw Shailene Woodley consecutively in the movies, Divergent and The Fault in our Stars, I have been a fan. These aren’t even the roles she gained critical acclaim from, that was for her performance in The Descendants with George Clooney. This time, she’ll be doing a character that’s more daring than the previous characters she had to portray on the big screen. White Bird in a Blizzard is based from the book written by Laura Kasischke, telling of youthful passion and loss of innocence.

Interstellar Movie Review

Sunday, November 09, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the big films to come our way this year is Interstellar, the latest movie offering from Christopher Nolan, the genius behind the recent Batman films and Inception. For me though, I couldn’t help but be excited for this because space adventure films are never enough. Also, pre-apocalyptic films almost always lure audiences as soon as they hit the box office. Interstellar was announced to be shot in 70mm film format and I was fortunate enough to have watched it at the premiere in the IMAX theater. I may not have full appreciation of the technicality that entails but I did appreciate that because of the high film quality, I was fully-immersed into the film.

J. Lawrence Returns as Katniss in Mockingjay Part 1

Thursday, November 06, 2014 , , 0 Comments

After a better (much much better) second instalment for The Hunger Games movie franchise, we get to see what happens next as Katniss wakes up from being rescued after the Quarter Quell. Jennifer Lawrence once again reprises her role as Katniss, the very persona symbolizing courage and hope for the people of Panem. Katniss wakes up in a secret district that will be the heart of the rebellion against President Snow and the Capitol.

Book Review #22: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

Saturday, November 01, 2014 , 0 Comments

I rarely choose historical fiction for my list of “to read” books but every once in a while, a book with an interesting plot catches my eye. This is the case when I chose to read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. This wasn’t your typical historical fiction as well because it was biblical in a sense. When I read the synopsis for The Red Tent, I was eager to read about Dinah. I looked forward to her story as spun from the author’s imagination.

Fury

Tuesday, October 21, 2014 , 0 Comments

Just the title of the movie itself already makes it sound so badass. Well, that was my first reaction when I saw the poster and then my eyes wandered on over who the actors in the film were. Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Jason Isaacs and Michael Pena..all of which have created names for themselves in Hollywood. Fury is currently the number one movie in the US Box Office last week and I'm pleased to let you know that it opens tomorrow here in the Philippines.

The Book of Life Movie Review

Tuesday, October 21, 2014 , 0 Comments

Most people associate Halloween with a lot of frightening things. It’s that time of the year when ghouls, monsters and creepy crawlies revel in the spotlight. In Mexico though, it’s a little bit different. They celebrate Dia de los Muertos. Owing to the mixed influences in their culture, the tradition is observed in color and in an abundance of food offerings for the souls of their loved ones. It is the inspiration behind the animated movie, The Book of Life. It’s also a spectacular adventure delving deep into the Mexican lore that would tickle the fancy of viewers of all ages.

Skull Candies for Halloween

Monday, October 20, 2014 0 Comments

Sorry I haven’t been updating much these days. My schedule has gotten crazy busy the past week and I’m still slowly getting a grip on it. Don’t fret though, it looks like I’ve gotten things under control and I’m now raring to start my work week. Also look forward to more frequent updates from now on. :)

Can you believe that Halloween is just around the corner? I sometimes can’t believe how fast time passes. It seems only yesterday when we were greeting the New Year with fresh starts and New Year Resolutions. Soon it’ll be the holidays once again. First though, Halloween makes me think of candy too much. Maybe that’s why while browsing through Behance, this is what caught my eye.

A Dark Hero's Tale: Dracula Untold

Tuesday, October 14, 2014 , 0 Comments

Anyone in the waking world would easily associate the name Dracula synonymously with the term vampire. In the world of fantasy, they're the blood drinkers and are most commonly associated with pale skin and fear of sunlight. Although many other vampires have made names for themselves, few could ever match the notoriety and legend that follows Dracula's name. Most people also do not know that the legend was also loosely based on a real person, Vlad the Impaler.
Dracula-Untold-movie-review
Dracula Untold is a retelling of Dracula's story, how he came to be and how he had chosen a dark path. Vampires have always fascinated me but since the onset of the teen vampire novels, they have been losing their edge. I expected this movie to bring back the infamy and respect that Dracula rightfully deserved. For that, Luke Evans in the starring role of Prince Vlad III, did an amazing job.

One of the most beautiful actresses who has ever graced the big screen is Rosamund Pike. She has this classic beauty and elegance that makes you just want to watch her. These are one of the qualities that made firector David Fincher choose Rosamund Pike for the highly challenging role of Amy Dunne, one of the lead roles in the movie Gone Girl.

Sun Protection with the Heroine Make Sunkiller Perfect Strong Plus

Wednesday, October 08, 2014 , 0 Comments

The common misconception when it comes to the use of any sunblock product is the restriction that it should only be used during the summer months. I don't know about you but I've really noticed the climate changes that have been going on for several years. There are days and weeks that can go by where temperatures rise up to scorching levels during the daytime. The typhoons have become stronger and more erratic as well. In my part of the world, we're almost reaching the end of monsoon season and yet it was blazing hot when we were on an out of town trip last weekend.

Dracula Untold: Trailer and Poster

Monday, October 06, 2014 , 0 Comments

Did you guys know that the myth of Dracula was inspired by a real person? That man is known in history as Vlad the Impaler. He was a member of the House of Draculesti (sounds familiar?) He was so called because he liked to impale his enemies. The movie that I’m most excited about this month is a fusion of history and fantasy with Vlad right in the middle. Here comes Dracula Untold.

The Book of Life Movie Featurette

Whenever I see the trailer for The Book of Life, I can’t help but become giddy seeing the character designs and scenes. I’m so in-love with the style! It’s perfectly reminiscent of the Dia de Los Muertos patterns I’ve seen while doing my research for a mail exchange I’ve signed up for.
