Coffitivity:Use Ambient Café Sounds for Productivity

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve psyched yourself to write up a storm for the whole day but end up staring at a blank word processor and lots of opened browser tabs. So what I do most of the time is set the mood for writing by lighting a scented candle and putting on some chillout music on my writing playlist. Or if I have to get some CAD details or 3ds done, I prefer to have a previously watched movie or TV series playing in a small window on my computer screen. For some, they seek the refuge of a coffeeshop and get work done there.

2014 Book Review #6: Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle

Saturday, March 29, 2014 , 0 Comments

Cleo Coyle had once again satisfied my cravings for good coffee and a mystery novel when I read Espresso Shot. The book is seventh in The Coffeehouse Mysteries. The series can be quite addicting and most especially if you are a coffee-lover. The characters are easy to relate to and have very likeable personalities. After reading books one through seven, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be seeing the series through.

Newly Released Artworks for Godzilla

Friday, March 28, 2014 , 0 Comments

What most people will probably look forward to the most when the movie Godzilla comes to big screen on May 15th, will not only be the big names in Hollywood but of course, the star of the movie himself – Godzilla. While most movie trailers would only tease with glimpses of the main film attraction like a glimpse of the Sentinels in X-Men: Days of Future Past or the Kaiju in Pacific Rim, in the previously released trailers for Godzilla, they actually let the audiences see him. No more surprises right? I’m willing to bet that there’s more in store for us.

On a Loop: See the New Trailer for Edge of Tomorrow

Thursday, March 27, 2014 , , 0 Comments

What would you do if you were to live a part of your life over and over? It’s like having a reset button when you die. The plot reminds me somewhat of the movie Source Code but the fact the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt is in it makes me want to watch it even more. In the movie Edge of Tomorrow, Earth has been hit by an alien invasion. The world needs a strong military force that can stand against the assault, unfortunately the aliens have got the upper hand.

Ingredients You Should Look For In Your Makeup

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 0 Comments

I’m delighted to feature this very informative post on beauty by Gwen Lewis.

Ingredients You Should Look For In Your Makeup

Wearing makeup is just an unavoidable part of life for a woman. Whether you love it or hate it, there are occasions where wearing makeup is essential - so why not educate yourself on what you’re putting on your face? Even if you invest in professional quality makeup that you buy at a department store, do you have any idea what they use to create these products? There’s no shame in admitting that you don’t - because most women don’t know what to look for when going to buy makeup.

Summer Fun Fashion

Friday, March 21, 2014 0 Comments

It’s been awhile since I posted anything fashion-related or played around with Polyvore. This time I had time to create some outfits that are perfect for the summer. Summer gets pretty hot here in Manila and while the bright colors reflect sunlight off, it also brings about a colorful and fun display of fashion ensembles.

First Look: Peanuts Movie in 3d

Friday, March 21, 2014 , , 0 Comments

The world’s most-loved beagle, Snoopy and his pal Charlie Brown are finally getting animated in 3d in the upcoming film Peanuts which is due for release in 2015. In this teaser trailer, one can already see how adorable the visuals are and I’m sure it will appeal to  the kids of generation as well. Since its debut, the comic strip made by Charles Schulz had been read by 355 million people worldwide, making it a huge success.

The Trailer & Movie Poster for The Maze Runner is Finally Out!

Thursday, March 20, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Watching the trailer for The Maze Runner brings me back to the time that I’ve first read the book. Everything is shrouded in mystery as soon as Thomas comes up from that boxed cage and finds himself in an enclosure with a group of teenage boys. It seems crazy enough that they’re all there with no apparent reason. They had livestock and shelter but also a dangerous maze that surrounds their “homebase”.

The Moleskine Art Plus Series

Thursday, March 20, 2014 0 Comments

Moleskine as a brand is almost synonymous with sketching. It had created sketch notebooks that are preferred by most artists because of the ideal paper weight and texture that’s perfect to hold the thousands of doodles from their imaginations. Now, Moleskine is aiming to endear artists to their brand even more by creating the Art Plus series that’s dedicated to bring out creativity in budding artists.

Watch the Full Trailer for Maleficent

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 , , 0 Comments

After having watched the latest full trailer for Maleficent, I now have goosebumps. Angelina Jolie couldn’t be more perfect for the role. When her expression is serious, those horns and those piercing eyes actually make her look frightening but then she smiles a wicked smile and then you’re sure that she carries a secret behind that smile. I can’t wait to watch the movie myself.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire now on DVD

Monday, March 17, 2014 , 0 Comments

Perhaps the only other series that rivaled the success of The Harry Potter books was The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins. When the movie was announced for the first film, I was one of the millions of fans who eagerly awaited its release. The first film was less than what I had hoped it to be and instead of being satisfied with the adaptation, I was extremely disappointed.

The Week that Was #5

[March 2 to March 8, 2014]
This is another catch-up post from the things that made last week very interesting. Again my workload had been overwhelming and I couldn't update as much as I used too. Hopefully, I'll get back in the groove pretty soon. Anyway, without further ado...here are the things that made the past week worth remembering. These may be just simple things but they all trigger a happy memory.

Sakura Teapot
Since I'm trying to cut back on coffee and willing my body to shift to drinking tea once again, I bought myself this pretty little teapot. Now when I'm at home and writing, this is always by my side.

Two New Movie Posters for Maleficent

Sunday, March 16, 2014 , 0 Comments

As promotions for the new Disney movie, Maleficent kick off, I realized that I haven’t seen Angeline Jolie on the big screen in quite a while. I know that she has dabbled into the field of directing but it will be quite a treat to see her on-screen once again. What a come-back it will be as she plays the role of one of Disney’s most iconic villains from the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty.

Pasta-Flavored Ice Cream Anyone?

Thursday, March 13, 2014 0 Comments

Yesterday, the sun was blazing hot and yet there was still a cold breeze in the morning. Yet, we still know that summer is almost upon us. Soon cravings for cold desserts will be a thing. However, would you be brave enough to try this? A pasta-flavored ice cream bar?

A Kick-Ass Michone Doll? I Want!

Tuesday, March 11, 2014 , 0 Comments

If you’re a fan of the TV show, The Walking Dead, then you probably already know just how much a kick-ass of a character Michone is. When that samurai of hers entered the scene, coupled by her mysterious personality, you just know that the show had gone from good to better, waaay better.  She is probably one of the most recognizable characters in the show. This is why when I saw this Michone doll, I couldn’t help but think how awesome it was.

Watch the First Trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction

Monday, March 10, 2014 , , 0 Comments

It will take some getting used to not seeing Shai LaBeouf in this Transformers movie. However, given that this already took place 4 years after the events in Chicago, it’s due time that we get to see a new set of characters this time around. Transformers: Age of Extinction stars Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, an inventor who accidentally finds Optimus Prime. As soon as he does, they get on the radar of the Decepticons, the Autobots and the Government.

Check out the Cars in Need for Speed

Monday, March 10, 2014 , 0 Comments

Soon to come our way is the testosterone-filled movie, Need for Speed starring the Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul. True to the grand tradition of cars being a part of global culture and the strong association between the drivers and their vehicles, the filmmakers for Need for Speed found it necessary to feature only the cars that would deliver the right look and feel for the film.

This is why the signature car driven by Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots is a Mustang. The Mustang was significant in history as THE car that launched the American muscle car movement and has since then become a world icon. Ford Motors was more than eager to get involved with the film and went on to design a special Mustang for the movie. Behold the 2013 Shelby GT500 with its trademark double stripes and a tribute to the great Caroll Shelby who passed away in 2012.

The Week that Was #4

Sunday, March 09, 2014 0 Comments

[February 23, 2014 to March 1, 2014]
This is a catch-up post, I’m sorry that I didn’t get to update this post category last week. Without further ado, here for me are the things and events that made my week very interesting.
What made this week interesting
Peacock Necklace
Veering away from my usual owl pendants, I chose to wear this last week and I got so many compliments for it. The best thing was that I bought this at a really cheap price and no one noticed. :)

Get to Play as the Doctor in Amateur Surgeon 3

Sunday, March 09, 2014 , , , 0 Comments

I’m sure you must’ve noticed that I've written very few updates in this blog for the past week. It’s gotten so busy and hectic that I found myself too stressed to write. One of the casual games that I play on my tablet that de-stresses me at the end of the day is Amateur Surgeon 3. The game is weird, creepy and gross in a strangely charming way. I guess nothing can be expected less from an Adult Swim title but trust me, it’s super fun!

2014 Book Review #5 Infected by Scott Sigler

Sunday, March 09, 2014 , 0 Comments

When I chose to read infected, I honestly thought that I would be reading a zombie book. Those Facebook updates on The Walking Dead were making me anxious for a good zombie book. While reading Infected by Scott Sigler though, I quickly realized that I wouldn’t be getting my zombie fix but instead, I got something surprisingly better.

Heaven is for Real

Sunday, March 09, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Aside from watching the featured movie, viewers most often look forward to the movie trailers before the film starts. One movie trailer that particularly left a mark in me because of a recent event in my family is the trailer for the movie, Heaven is for Real.

Journey through History with Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Saturday, March 08, 2014 , 0 Comments

Hello March! I apologize for the very few post updates this week, had a pretty heavy workload in the office but trust that I will have a lot of new content coming up this weekend. First up is my review for the movie, Mr. Peabody & Sherman which is an animated film that features one of my favorite creatures, a dog. Mr. Peabody is not just an ordinary dog though, he’s a genius. I think this is part of the charm of the film, how many times does a genius dog choose to adopt a human kid as his own? Sounds interesting? Well, in this movie, Mr Peabody & Sherman showed that their unusual relationship is not to be scoffed about.

2014 Book Review #4 The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Monday, March 03, 2014 , 0 Comments

When I came across The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, it had become such a mainstream title for it to trend on book sites. I recall my recent encounter of reading a mainstream title with The Cuckoo’s Calling and I started to have doubts. However, one particular review was very convincing and because of it, I gave in. I didn’t know then that I would be reading a book that was more than 700 pages thick.
the-goldfinch-book-review
The Goldfinch is mostly a book that relates the life of Theodore Decker. It starts out when he was a young boy and he lost his mom in a tragic terrorist attack in a museum. He was in the museum himself and was lucky he was able to find a way out, along with a valuable painting that he found himself in possession of. What he carried with him was The Goldfinch, a painting by the Dutch painter Carel Fabritius.
“—if a painting really works down in your heart and changes the way you see, and think, and feel, you don’t think, ‘oh, I love this picture because it’s universal.’ ‘I love this painting because it speaks to all mankind.’ That’s not the reason anyone loves a piece of art. It’s a secret whisper from an alleyway. Psst, you. Hey kid. Yes you.”
