On the Reading List

Saturday, May 31, 2014 0 Comments

After careful consideration and a reality check, I had to downsize the total number of books I’m aiming to read for this year’s challenge from 75 to 50. Since I had a rough start in the year and still trying to recover from it, I’m finding that I’m still not at 100%. However, I cannot give up on the challenge entirely because I still love to read and in fact, I have these books (and comics) to keep me company.

Ancestor by Scott Sigler
I’m so glad that I stumbled on Scott Sigler’s work through the recommendation feature on Goodreads because I’m really loving his work. After going through the Infected trilogy, Ancestor is proving to be just as good.
Find out more about Ancestor from its GOODREADS page.

Maleficent Movie Review

Friday, May 30, 2014 , 0 Comments

When you see Maleficent in the theaters this weekend, forget the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty that you've come to know. Maleficent has a surprise or two in store for you. What makes the back-story of an iconic villain so interesting? Is it the mystery? Or is it the possibility of understanding what made them evil? One thing is for sure, after watching Maleficent on its opening day, I will never look at the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty in the same way again.

Who’s Who in Maleficent

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 , 0 Comments

Here’s what I’m excited for tonight, the day is finally here! Maleficent opens in theaters nationwide starting today and before you rush out to buy tickets for the movie, here’s a brief post introducing the characters that you’ll see in the movie.

MALEFICENT (Angelina Jolie)
I love fairy tale retellings especially when it features the lesser known story of a major character. This time we’ll get to see how Maleficent lived before she became the iconic villain we’ve come to know in the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. This prestigious role went to Angelina Jolie and I love that her sort of come-back will feature this enigmatic and devious character.

The Cutest Alien in Earth to Echo

Monday, May 26, 2014 , 0 Comments

Following along the lines of great sci-fi family movies like E.T. and Batteries Not Included, here comes another movie that is sure to delight kids and touch hearts. Earth to Echo is an upcoming movie telling of a wonderful discovery by a group of best friends who begin to receiving coded messages. Curious about this and without adults interested enough to help them, the kids set about to discover the source and meaning of the code themselves.

Trying out the Polyvore Android App

Sunday, May 25, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Sometimes when I find myself in a creative mood, I head on over to Polyvore.com to make a fashion collage and post my creations here. When a free Android app for Polyvore was released in the Google Play Store, I just couldn’t resist to try it out. After a quick log-in, I was able to access my existing account on the website. In fact, I could freely see all the fashion sets that I’ve done before.

Mutants Young & Old Unite in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Sunday, May 25, 2014 , 0 Comments

Last week on opening night, I got to see X-Men: Days of Future Past, one of the most anticipated movies this year. It’s also one of those films that boast of a star-studded cast, amazing CGI’s and jaw-dropping stunts. Officially, director Bryan Singer now holds the record for most X-Men films but for me, what really got the fans and the public interested in the film franchise once again was when X-Men: First Class was released. I think it was the team-up of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence that did the trick. With them in the same film plus the original cast from the first X-Man trilogy, X-Men; Days of Future Past I couldn’t contain my excitement.
xmen-days-of-future-past-movie-review
Days of Future Past is a comic-book story arc that gained the X-Men more fans and the Sentinels (who play a big role in the comics), a certain kind of infamy. This movie version though, demands that you don’t recall what you’ve read in the comic books. They’ve made it different. Is it good different or bad different? Read on to find out.

Coating a Cake with Sugar Paste

Friday, May 23, 2014 , , 0 Comments

One of my morning routines involve browsing through several images hosted on a popular image site. There I keep myself amused with heartwarming quotes, cute animal shots and lots of awesomely decorated cakes. You guys won’t believe just how much of an art form cake decorating has evolved to. Did you know that there’s more to cake decorating than icing and frosting? Read on to find out.

More fun in the Sun with the May 2014 BDJ Box

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 0 Comments

Last weekend, I was checking the weather app on my tablet and it was daunting to see that the temperature was ranging from 37 to 38 degrees. There’s no doubt that this summer is the hottest we’ve experienced yet. I find it necessary not to be exposing myself to the harmful rays of the sun unless I really, really have to. If your daily routine dictates that you must, it’s best to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. This is why the selection of beauty products inside the May 2014 BDJ Box is very ideal for this hot weather.

Full Trailer for Interstellar Revealed

Sunday, May 18, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Until last week, it has been hush hush about Interstellar, the latest movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The only clues we had were the released movie poster and the teaser trailer. It was going to be a space movie and Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine will be in it. Fresh off from his best actor win at the Oscars, I couldn’t wait to see his next project.

The Joy of Second Showers

Sunday, May 18, 2014 , 0 Comments

It’s around 4pm and it’s still 37 degrees outside. It’s been a hot, hot summer so far (the hottest yet). It’s almost always mandatory to be taking two showers a day. My current shower companion is the Carried Away Shea Enriched Shower Gel by Bath & Body Works. These days the way to my heart is through shower gels and bottles of body wash. I love love them!

More Good Stuff from Wham! Burgers

Sunday, May 18, 2014 , 0 Comments

Before the appearance of so many good burger joints, the only burgers I knew years ago were from a famous fast food. Thankfully though, there had been a burger revolution for several years and the Filipino can now be more discerning about their burger choices. When I had my first taste of Wham! Burger, I was completely taken by their thick and juicy patty. I was in burger heaven. Now several years after, it’s good to know that they’re continually innovating their menu to offer new and exciting food choices for the burger lover.

Liam Neeson Explores a Dangerous Affair in Third Person

Thursday, May 15, 2014 , 0 Comments

Whenever I see a film with a cast ensemble of A-list stars, my expectations for the film immediately goes up. The same goes for the upcoming film, Third Person which stars Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Mila Kunis, James Franco and Moran Atias. The premise of the plot sounds intriguing and might give us insights into the complexities of some relationships.

The Papercut Illustrations of Eiko Ojala

Thursday, May 15, 2014 0 Comments

If you’re an artist and you want to try your hand at doing papercrafts, others may question how much you need to conserve the use of paper for the good of the environment. They will still recognize the creativity in the art but might frown upon the medium if you’re not using recycled paper. Sounds a bit trivial but artist Eiko Ojala thought of a workaround for this and came up with unique papercut illustrations on his own. Take a look.

Last night, at the premiere of Godzilla at the IMAX theater, I got to witness Godzilla for the first time as he was meant to be. He was this monster hailed to be on top of the food chain and has managed to evade being captured for several years. His origin was unknown and the people who did research about him revered him to be god-like. Opening tomorrow, whether you’re watching the movie out of nostalgia or out of curiosity, you’re in definitely in for a ride.

Watch the trailer for If I Stay

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Here’s another romantic film that might require a box of tissues while watching, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. If I Stay is based from the young adult bestseller written by Gayle Forman. It tells of the story of Mia (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her boyfriend Adam (Jamie Blackley) as they fall in love sharing the same passion for music and the arts.

A Taste of Korean at Kogi Bulgogi

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 0 Comments

Last month, when some of my close college friends decided to meet up at Eastwood for a long overdue catchup, I suggested that we eat at Kogi Bulgogi and feast on Korean food. Due to our busy schedules, some had to reschedule the meetup but me, Ryanne and Jia went ahead anyway. It wasn’t my first time at Kogi Bulgogi, I was one of the bloggers invited to their food tasting when they were newly opened in 2010. I was happy to return and have a taste of their best selling dishes.

While waiting for our order, we were handed a staple of complimentary appetizers which we happily munched on while gabbing. For a Monday night, the place was full, a good sign that people love their food.

Shailene Woodley is Hazel Grace in The Fault in our Stars

Saturday, May 10, 2014 , 0 Comments

I’m one of the fans who has already marked June 5th for the showing of The Fault in our Stars, the movie adaptation of the bestselling book by John Green of the same name. The beautiful and almost bare-faced Shailene Woodley will immortalize one of the lead characters from the book. As Hazel Grace Lancaster, she meets the love of her life Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) in a support group meeting for cancer patients. Hazel is still battling cancer while Augustus is in remission.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Rises up in Godzilla

Friday, May 09, 2014 , 0 Comments

It’s always been hard for me to imagine what it could be like to swear an oath to protect one’s country from any threats. More so when you’re also torn to protect your loved ones. Such will be the inner dilemma that Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character in Godzilla will face as Ford Brody, a Naval officer specializing in disarming bombs.

Try this Virtual Origami Puzzler–Paperama

Friday, May 09, 2014 , , , 0 Comments

They say that there’s an app for nearly everything. I would have dismissed it as something trivial in this day and age. I firmly believe that app developers have an endless source of ideas when it comes to making apps. One such example is virtual origami. You guys know about origami right? It’s the Japanese art of folding paper. Paperama is an app that builds on that concept and then turns it into a game. Curious yet? Read on.

Women, the Man who Cheats and Friendship on The Other Woman

Thursday, May 08, 2014 , 0 Comments

Picture this scenario: three women looking into binoculars spying on an attractive man cozying up to a beautiful brunette. Aside from being amateur sleuths, what else do these women share? Unbelievably, it was a budding friendship and scorn for the man who cheated on them. Yes them. This scene is part of a movie that I saw early this week and wanting to see again. The Other Woman is a fun and hilarious look into the perils of cheating and the roots of an unlikely friendship.

LOLReader: For the Times when you need to Laugh

My typical day at the office usually has me sitting in front of the computer for several hours a day. Sometimes I get to go out on the field to check on the construction site, attend weekly meetings or purchase décor items for clients. I measure my productivity for the day using an app that utilizes the Pomodoro technique. The technique usually calls for a 25 minute focused work and a 5 minute break. I tweaked mine a bit to 45 minutes of focused work and 15 minutes break in between. For those breaks, I alternate between sorting through my emails, grabbing a quick snack or browsing through the LOLReader app on my tablet. Believe me, this helps a lot to keep the stress at bay.

Time to Start a New Beauty Habit

Sunday, May 04, 2014 , 0 Comments

Since I’ve started my subscription for the BDJ Box, I’ve gotten a lot of facial masks but never gotten around to using them. However, I’ve always been a girl who’s open to adapting new beauty habits. At the recent Beauty Social, I got to meet with the wonderful Ms. Barbi Chan and she introduced me to the best facial mask in KoreaDermal Collagen Essence Mask.

There are two ways you can use this mask – cold or warm. If you want to use it cold, you can put the mask in the fridge prior to use. If you want to use it warm, you can soak it first in hot water. Given the extreme summer temperatures that we’ve been having lately, I of course, chose cold. There are 29 flavor variants available for the Dermal Collagen Essence Mask, each with its own special benefits and all containing collagen and Vitamin E.

The Main Poster for Edge of Tomorrow

Saturday, May 03, 2014 , 0 Comments

Live, Die, Repeat. Now that’s a movie tagline that would probably stay with us for a long time. Here’s another Tom Cruise film that we can all look forward to. Co-starring with Emily Blunt, they will both take us a sci-fi adventure that will have us piecing together pieces of the puzzle while rooting for the continued existence of mankind. Tom Cruise plays the role of Major William Cage, who is fated to relive the memory of being dropped into the middle of battle in a fight against an alien race.

Top 7 Reasons why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Rocks

Saturday, May 03, 2014 , , 0 Comments

This past four days marks a successful opening week for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Hollywood’s current “It” couple, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield has all our attention and there is no denying their chemistry on-screen. Andrew Garfield may have given the most unforgettable Spider-Man performance yet and the verdict is in. The movie is worth all the hype, the wait and the reboot (dare I say). If you haven’t seen the movie yet or is planning to see it again, here are my top 7 reasons why The Amazing Spider-Man 2 rocks.
