Main Trailer for Into the Storm Now Released

Monday, June 30, 2014 , , 0 Comments

The upcoming film Into the Storm features the most powerful storm conceptualized on the Hollywood screen. The movie stars Richard Armitage, who we know better as Thorin in The Hobbit trilogy as he and the town of Silverton bear witness to Mother Nature’s fury as they are ravaged by deadly cyclones. The movie will provide a look at how people treat the storm, some will run for their lives whereas storm chasers run towards the vortex for the winning shot.

Free Game: Angry Birds Epic

Sunday, June 29, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Admittedly, I’ve stopped playing any of the Angry Birds games when I got tired of seeing all of the game’s merchandise everywhere. It also became this monotonous physics puzzler game dressed up in different franchises (Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Star Wars). Long story short, even though they came up with many more levels and many more sequels, I stayed away from the stuff. It was only recently that I came across Angry Birds Epic and saw that it had a different gameplay that I decided to give it a try.

What’s in your Make-Up Kit?

Saturday, June 28, 2014 0 Comments

One of the essentials that I have in my bag is my make-up kit. Putting on make-up is part of my morning routine so I put only what I need in my make-up kit and make sure that I don’t spend too much time in the morning putting it on. Firstly, I will put a light coat of moisturizer on freshly washed face. I use Celeteque Anti-Wrinkle Facial Moisturizer and then follow it up with a CC Cream. Now I’m loving Avon Anew 360 White CC Cream which I got from the Jan/Feb BDJ Box.

Last Week’s ToyCon Event

Saturday, June 28, 2014 , 0 Comments

Last week, thousands flocked at the 2014 ToyCon Event happening at the Megatrade Halls at SM Megamall. My sister and I were among the early birds who visited the exhibit on its first day. The event lasted for 3 days, June 20th up to the 22nd and I’m sure it will be one of the most unforgettable one. This was mainly because of the Rurouni Kenshin Costume Display that had fans of the Samurai X anime series going wild for. This included me and my sister. Well she’s much a bigger fan than I am.

On the Reading List: June Update

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 0 Comments

It's halfway through the year, how are you guys doing with your own reading lists and challenges? If you've joined the Goodreads Reading Challenge, are you done midway? I'm at 22 books and lagging one book behind and I'm hoping to do some catching up. I'm very excited for my selection of books that will keep the bookworm in me happy for the next coming days.

Skin Game by Jim Butcher
Hooray! The lastest novel from The Dresden Files is here. Just reading the book synopsis is giving me goosebumps. It's looking to be the best book in the series yet.
Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day….
june-books
Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful.
He doesn’t know the half of it….
Mab has just traded Harry’s skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains—led by one of Harry’s most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone—to break into the highest-security vault in town so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever.
It’s a smash-and-grab job to recover the literal Holy Grail from the vaults of the greatest treasure hoard in the supernatural world—which belongs to the one and only Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld and generally unpleasant character. Worse, Dresden suspects that there is another game afoot that no one is talking about. And he’s dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Especially Harry.
Dresden’s always been tricky, but he’s going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess—assuming his own allies don’t end up killing him before his enemies get the chance….

Awesome Lego Flower Pots

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 , 0 Comments

I’ve always been a fan of Lego and has featured so many Lego-related posts on this blog but I’ve never ceased to become amazed when I see the many creative things that people do with their Lego sets. So I thought to share this really cool Lego Flower Pot that was created by the artistic skills of Jin Kai. See? I’ve never thought that someone will make a flower pot out of Lego. It’s not just plain too, it features several creative scenes as well.

Noah and the Great Flood

Sunday, June 22, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the most popular stories in the Old Testament is the story of Noah. Mention the name Noah and what immediately comes into mind is the great flood and the ark. Last week, I got to see the movie adaptation of the story which featured a stellar cast. Although it was delayed in showing here locally, I had high expectations for the movie Noah

Sobees: An Alternative Desktop Twitter Client

Sunday, June 22, 2014 , 0 Comments

I’ve been on the constant search for an alternative desktop Twitter client ever since Janetter won’t authorize accounts anymore because of the new Twitter keys policy. That’s really too bad because I had loved using it since last year but between two desktop PCs crashing (one at work and one at home) and me having to reinstall it and only finding I can’t use it anymore, I was extremely frustrated. Then MetroTwit was said to be closing down too and Tweet Deck also suffered some major hacking days ago, my options were becoming very limited. Luckily, I think I’ve found the alternative that I’m going to use from now on. Here’s a look at Sobees.

I like my desktop Twitter client to offer some form of customization. Sobees offers color themes and lets you change the display font size. The artistic side in me always prefer things to be in color, monochromatic black, white and grey don’t work for me and unfortunately, it’s what most Twitter clients offer.

Robert Downey Jr. in The Judge

Sunday, June 22, 2014 , 0 Comments

For the past years, Robert Downey Jr. rose in popularity among Hollywood celebs for playing iconic movie roles such as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. He has has created such memorable characters that it’s now almost impossible to imagine them played by another actor. In the upcoming film, The Judge he will appear onscreen minus the suit and the fantasy roles but instead will star opposite Robert Duvall and will probably warm our hearts based from the trailer you can watch after the jump.

Scarlett Johansson stars in Lucy

Thursday, June 19, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the most memorable characters that Scarlett Johansson ever played as of yet is Black Widow in numerous Marvel films. There’s no doubt that she can channel her inner heroine and perform physically demanding stunts. In the upcoming film Lucy, she’ll get to play a character who was caught in a dark deal, forcing her to seek revenge on her captors.

June 2014 BDJ Box: Benefit Exclusive

Wednesday, June 18, 2014 0 Comments

Hello dear readers! I’m back from a much needed and very much appreciated quick vacation from Boracay and while my mind is still drifting off to memories of the beach, I’ve noticed all too well the harsh effects of the changing weather on my skin and hair. It’s halfway through the year and here is when we’ll notice that it could get really hot one day and gloomy and rainy the next. Thankfully, there are now beauty products we can use to combat these weather effects. This month’s beauty loot from BDJ Box is full of beauty samplers from Benefit Cosmetics and were specifically chosen for us bellas to remain gorgeous and hopefully, “weather-proof”.

Clever Pun Illustrations

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 0 Comments

When I joined Instagram before, I was amused for a while at the countless food photos, fashion ensembles and places that my friends regularly post from their everyday adventures but then when Instagram began to utilized as a more creative outlet for artists, it had now become a source of inspiration as well.

Take a look at these illustrations from Oman-based graphic artist Nabhan Abdullatif which he posts on his Instagram account. They are based from everyday sayings that re-creates into pun illustrations. Some are funny and some are really clever. I’m totally impressed!

The Shingen Mochi

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 , , 0 Comments

For desserts, I’ve always had a preference for ones that are colorful or very pretty to look at. I’ve always been hesitant to taste desserts that are just “white” or neutrally colored. That’s really just me but once I’ve had a taste and it tasted good, I can easily scratch my initial impression. This is why the Filipino dessert, Maja Blanca which is made primarily white, is on my favorites list. Variants of the  today has it having some color.

I’ll make another exemption for the shingen mochi, a rice cake dessert from Japan which looks like a large drop of water. It’s really clear but you get the impression that it’s also like a gel-like substance. From the description on the site I saw it from:
shingen-mochi-rice-cake-dessert
made from spring water which is lightly sweetened and often served with a brown sugar syrup.

For the third time, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are reuniting on-screen for the movie Blended. In the film, Drew plays the role of a single mother who agreed to a blind date with single dad Jim (Adam Sandler). However, the blind date ends disastrously and the two swore never to see each other again. By some twist of fate, they end up in an African safari together with their families for a vacation that neither of them will forget.

How to Train your Dragon 2 Movie Review

If you were given the chance to be a dragon rider, would you take it? In How to Train your Dragon, Hiccup and Toothless charmed us with their friendship and their valiant effort to vanquish the hatred between Vikings and dragons. With this second film, I expected to see what happened next.

Fashion from The Carrie Diaries

Sunday, June 08, 2014 , 0 Comments

When they announced a few weeks back that they won’t be renewing The Carrie Diaries for another season, I was really bummed out. I loved that show and I loved young Carrie and her friends.  The story was really intriguing too, even if it had some inconsistencies with Sex and the City. Still, here’s one thing more that I’m going to miss seeing…THE FASHION!

Movie Trailers: The Book of Life

Friday, June 06, 2014 , 0 Comments

The Book of Life is an upcoming animation presented by 20th Century Fox Animation soon to hit theaters on October 16th. What’s getting this movie much buzz is that it is produced by Guillermo del Toro, who probably won the hearts of geeks around the world with the success of Pacific Rim. As soon as the first few stills of this animation was released, I took note of its quirky and yet incredibly pleasing graphics. It kinda reminded me of Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas but in a more colorful visual style.

The Fault in our Stars Movie Review

Thursday, June 05, 2014 , 0 Comments

Learning that some infinities are bigger than other infinities.

Like a giddy fan girl restless in my seat inside the movie theater during last Monday’s premiere for The Fault in our Stars, I simply couldn’t wait for the trailers to be over and for the movie to actually begin. Celebrated for its huge success and heartwarming story that gained John Green a huge following since its release, The Fault in our Stars is the movie adaptation that fans of the book like me had been eager to see since the first trailers came out. Much like everyone else, I had high hopes and expectations. More importantly, it was an inexplicable joy to see the beloved characters of Hazel Grace and Augustus come alive on the big screen. The moment Hazel Grace was shown on screen, time for me stood still.

Top 5 Alternatives to SpringPad

It was only a few months ago that I got to really explore and enjoy using the app SpringPad. SpringPad is a full-featured note-taking app that boasts of a multi-device synchronization, basic formatting capabilities, a nicely designed interface and the ability to categorize your notes into notebooks. What I loved the most about SpringPad is that you can also make tasks in your notebooks and “springing” an article is as easy as pie. Unfortunately, SpringPad has announced a week before that they’re shutting the app down. Since then, I’ve been searching for a suitable alternative to this wonderful note-taking app.

One of the most remembered stories in the Old Testament of the Bible is the story of Noah and the great flood that wiped out most of the living creatures on earth. The movie stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, Dakota Goyo and Anthony Hopkins.

Get Caught on a Time Loop: Edge of Tomorrow Movie Review

Sunday, June 01, 2014 , , 0 Comments

Last week was rough for me and I was more than happy to forget about stress and work as soon as I got in line at the IMAX theater to watch Tom Cruise's latest film, Edge of Tomorrow. Ever since the trailers for the film came out, I've been excited to see it. Amidst the buzz surrounding the film, the common impression was that it was like Groundhog Day. I haven't seen that film and I'm glad for it because I didn't have anything to compare it with. Besides, this was a Tom Cruise film and I expected to be fully entertained.

True enough, Edge of Tomorrow is a film that brings a thrilling sci-fi adventure to viewers that takes them to a cycle of time loops that sets up to a very satisfying conclusion. Hold on though, sci-fi films might not be for everyone but let me convince you otherwise. Read on.
