Movie Review: If I Stay

Sunday, August 31, 2014 , , 0 Comments

What if you find yourself on the brink of death, where and with whom will you find the strength to live? Who would you live your second chance at life for? They say most people don’t realize the importance of a person in their life until they’re gone. These were the concepts that the movie, If I Stay played around with. Starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Jamie Blackley as Mia and Adam, they tantalized audiences with their love story and undeniable on-screen chemistry.

Kinder Toys by Color

Thursday, August 28, 2014 0 Comments

Sometimes I get the crazy urge to organize things. I want everything to have its own place and arranged by type. Such “OC” urges even has me arranging stuff by color, provided they are of similar size and shape. This is why when I saw the Kinder Pantone project by designer Aline Houdé-Diebolt, I couldn’t resist not posting it here on my blog.

Mad Max Character Banners

Tuesday, August 26, 2014 , 0 Comments

I’m so glad that Tom Hardy is back on the big screen. He’ll be back in the fourth film of the Mad Max franchise as Max himself. The film is directed by George Miller and will have the title of Mad Max: Fury Road. I haven’t seen the first three but since I’ve become interested in post-apocalyptic movies and novels, I think I might do proper research before Mad Max: Fury Road opens on May 14, 2015.

Most of the products in the August BDJ Box focuses on helping us bellas get irresistible hair with leading brands like L’Oreal and Garnier. Kyoto Inferno Thrills Fans til next Film

Saturday, August 23, 2014 , 0 Comments

During the red carpet premiere of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, I experienced for myself how vast the fandom for Samurai X is and up to what extent the fans would go just to see the actors and the director when they came to visit early this month. There’s no doubt that Rurouni Kenshin has amassed a very large following from the manga, the Anime series and the live-action film. Watching the first film prompted the start of my whole Samurai X phase. I fully expected my interest to be rekindled with the second film.

The New Look of OneNote

Saturday, August 23, 2014 , , 0 Comments

I have been an avid user of Microsoft OneNote for quite a while now. I have it synced on multiple devices too. I use it for all my blogging notes and for keeping track of future posts. Sometimes if I get crafting ideas, I use it for that too. Just recently, it has been given an update and has now been optimized for tablet use. It now looks very similar to the Windows 8 app. Here’s a peek at how the notebook dashboard looks like.

If I Stay, Next Month’s Tear Jerker

Wednesday, August 20, 2014 , , 0 Comments

To balance out all the action movies this month, here’s something to mellow down with. Next month will be the release of the movie If I Stay which is based on the Young Adult (YA) bestselling novel written by Gayle Forman. It stars Chloe Grace-Moretz in the lead role as Mia. You may have probably seen the trailer (you can see it too at the end of this post) and read some significant buzz about the film on the internet. What does it have that people take notice?

Protect your Hair with Vitress

Wednesday, August 20, 2014 , 0 Comments

My morning routine used to doesn’t include an extra few minutes for blow drying. I had digi-permed hair at that time and after applying mousse on my hair and finger styling it, I was all set to go. Before that, I wore it long and straight but rebonded. Again, it didn’t need that much hair styling. Now though, I’m wearing my hair short and it’s now more prone to fly-aways. I really hate that. This is why I have to blowdry my hair before leaving for work. I did notice that the heat from the blow dryer tend to dry out my hair. I then learned that you can protect your hair from the harsh effects of blow drying.

As announced in the recent Comic Con, Paul Rudd is set to play the role of Scott Lang, also known as Ant-ManAnt-Man’s storyline will now join the roster of Marvel movies that will be shown in the coming years. The film will be directed by Peyton Reed whose movie credits include Bring it On, The Break-Up and Yes Man. Taal Basilica, Basilica de San Martin de Tours

Sunday, August 17, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the churches I got to visit during one of our company outings was the Taal Basilica or Basilica de San Martin de Tours. It is considered to be the largest church in the Philippines. It is named after the patron saint of Taal whose fiesta is celebrated November 11. I’ve also observed that inside the church interiors, it used trompe l’oeil extensively.

Upcoming Movie: The Maze Runner

Sunday, August 17, 2014 , , 0 Comments

One of the movie adaptations that I’m looking forward to this year is The Maze Runner. I loved the book. It was fast-paced and the characters were very memorable. I devoured it from front to back in just a few hours. That’s how good the book was. I have the same high expectations for the film as well. I’m excited to see the Gladers on the big screen.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Review

What I came to know of the Ninja Turtles is based from what I can still recall from watching the cartoons in my childhood. While I enjoyed watching the series (the original one), I'm not a hardcore fan. As luck would have it, this was a good thing. Why? I was able to appreciate this movie adaptation for what it is.

Lucy Movie Review

Tuesday, August 12, 2014 , 0 Comments

The idea that there is a possibility of unlocking more potential for the human brain has always intrigued me. This is why when I saw the trailer for Lucy, I couldn’t help but be interested in the plot of the film. The movie, which starred Scarlett Johansson, hit theaters last week, and it had gotten quite a few mixed reviews. Here’s what I think.

The Walk Wraps Production

Monday, August 11, 2014 , 0 Comments

Have you ever considered yourself as one having great sense of balance? Good enough to let’s say, walk the distance between the then World Trade Center Towers high up in the air? In history, there was only one man who did that. His name is Philippe Petit and he will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The talented actor is almost unrecognizable with mousy brown hair.

Favorite Playlists on Spotify

Monday, August 11, 2014 , 0 Comments

I was pretty lucky to be one of the first batch to try out Spotify when it was made available here in the Philippines. However, due to my fascination with audiobooks, I didn’t get to listen to music as much as I used to. Now though, I’m rediscovering the joys of having wonderful music playing while I’m working or just relaxing at home. Spotify is now my go-to for playlists depending on my mood. Here’s me sharing the ones I’ve found that are great for certain moods so far.

New Scent: Pink Sugar Bloom

Sunday, August 10, 2014 , 0 Comments

One of the easiest ways to lift one's mood is through scent. This is why I use a lot of aromatherapy at home. My work is always stressful, I don't want to be experiencing the same stress at home. However, when I'm out or on the move, I always welcome the instant lift that a good perfume spray gives. In the July BDJ Box, they included a bottle of Pink Sugar Bloom Body Mist that I just couldn't wait to try out.

I had fun creating these sets on Polyvore this morning. Took inspiration from an astronomy magazine I was reading the other night before going to sleep. Yes, I’m that nerdy. :P See? I can get blogpost inspirations from them too. Anyway, here’s what I came up with using a star theme.

Kenshin Fever Sweeps Manila

Friday, August 08, 2014 , , 0 Comments

I’m still on a high after covering the two-day event comprising the visit of some of the stars and the director of the upcoming film, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno. Much to the delight of fans all over the country, Warner Bros. had given them what they had been wishing for quite some time. My coverage included being able to attend the Red Carpet Premiere last August 6th and the Press Conference held yesterday.

Our Japanese guests were here to promote the second installment for the live-action film Rurouni Kenshin based from the Manga series written by Nobuhiro Watsuki. Kyoto Inferno opens on August 20th here in the Philippines. As early as now though, it is very apparent that the Kenshin fever has already started. Let me relay my experience from the past two days.

The latest tornado disaster film to come our way is Into the Storm. Even if you say that it will be like the other tornado films before it, for sure you’ll be curious enough to see it. True to the Hollywood trend of making everything bigger, Into the Storm features more action, stronger winds and even more tornadoes.

Hercules Movie Review

Wednesday, August 06, 2014 , 0 Comments

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been taught that Hercules was the demigod known for his inhuman strength and the he was the son of Zeus. We’ve also had this notion and general idea of what he should look like. This is why when it was announced that Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” was going to star in a Hercules movie, I was a bit skeptical. I had trouble envisioning him as the character even though I know that he had the physique for it. It also probably didn’t help that in my mind, it was already fixed that Hercules looked like Kevin Sorbo or the Disney version. However, as soon as Dwayne Johnson comes onto the screen as the mighty Hercules himself, all the doubts were cast aside and I began to enjoy the film for what it is.

Year Walk Game Review

Tuesday, August 05, 2014 , 0 Comments

The game Year Walk takes its inspiration from the Swedish tradition of the same name which is a form of divination. It is usually done during Christmas or New Year’s Eve and if successfully completed, they’d get a glimpse of the future. Year Walk was originally an iOS game but when it made its transition to the PC platform early this year, it was one of the games I bought during the recent Steam Sale. I bought it because I got curious about the tradition and how it came to be the game’s concept and I was charmed by its quirky graphics as well.

Product Review: Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner

Monday, August 04, 2014 , 0 Comments

When I received my 2014 July BDJ Box last week, one of the products that I couldn’t wait to try was the Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner. Whew! Now I know that’s a handful to say. Skin Conditioner? Yeah, that’s what I thought too. It made me really curious. So for my next shower, I was very excited to try it out.

I know we are all familiar with hair conditioners but something for the skin? It turns out that it was one of Nivea’s newest beauty innovations. It’s also so easy to use.
  • Do your usual bath routine. As for me, I shampoo and condition my hair first.
  • Shower with your favorite body wash/soap.
  • Rinse.
  • Lather on the Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner.
  • Rinse off.
  • Towel dry.

Get to Know the Heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy

Sunday, August 03, 2014 , 0 Comments

Looking at the members composing the team that call themselves Guardians of the Galaxy, I see a group that is mismatched in every way. It’s the most diverse Marvel team yet. Not one of them is the same species and it looked like none of their abilities complimented each other. Still, when it comes to teamwork, the Guardians of the Galaxy managed to save thousands of lives.

When this photo was released as a sneak peek of the revamp of Wonder Woman’s costume, the internet was once again divided.

Of Young Masters and the Black Butler

A Black Butler Movie Review

Prior to watching the live-action film Black Butler, I had only recently learned that it was an adaptation from a best-selling Manga series written and illustrated by Yana Toboso. In Japan, the manga came to be known as "Kuroshitsuji". The synopsis of the film was intriguing and since I was no stranger to reading fantasy novels myself, the prospect of a demonic butler acting upon a command sounded promising. Since it was also a live action film, I came to expect that it would have very good fight scenes.
