2015 Book Review #3 - Where'd you go Bernadette? by Maria Semple

Wednesday, February 25, 2015 , 0 Comments

This book called out to me as soon as I saw it on the fresh books stand at the bookstore because of its vibrant illustrated cover. I immediately flipped through the pages and saw that it was written in an unconventional way. Minutes later, I was making a beeline to the cashier.

The Theory of Everything Movie Review

Wednesday, February 25, 2015 , 0 Comments

I'm sure by now you've heard of Eddie Redmayne's phenomenal win at the Oscars. It was a well-deserved win too because his depiction of Stephen Hawking was beyond amazing. The performance is unforgettable and one that will be well remembered in Hollywood history. If you're curious about the film that he won an award for, then let me tell you something about it with this review. In a nutshell, The Theory of Everything is a glimpse in the life of Stephen Hawking and how he had to adapt from being a healthy young man to one who is brilliant but battling the effects of a rare form of Lou Gehrig's disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Insurgent Coming our Way Next Month

Monday, February 23, 2015 , , 0 Comments

When Veronica Roth's Divergent made waves as one of the bestselling novels ever to go head to head with The Hunger Games Trilogy, people took notice of the great story and amazing characters. It was no surprise then that it was quickly adapted for the big screen. The first film had a strong following and with Shailene Woodley spearheading the cast of young stars, it was a big hit. We're only a few weeks shy of the sequel, Insurgent and I truly wish that this film adaptation of the second book from the trilogy will be just as good too.

Panda Sandwich!

Friday, February 20, 2015 0 Comments

Oh wait, I didn’t mean a Panda-flavored sandwich. Sorry about that if the post title had been a bit deceiving. Sometimes while I drink my coffee, I browse through several random sites and see something cute and interesting. This morning I saw this sandwich maker that I just can’t pass up writing about. The thing-a-majig produces a sandwich as cute as these. Take a look!

The Strength and Resilience of the Human Spirit in Unbroken

Wednesday, February 18, 2015 , 0 Comments

Have you ever reached a despairing point in your life that you feel that the only thing you can do is give up? This was the thought going over and over in my head while watching the film Unbroken. I have felt this quite recently and as I watched the real-life struggles of the characters I was watching in the film, my worries seemed so petty. Unbroken is a film directed by talented actress Angelina Jolie and it was said to be one of the best POW (Prisoner of War) movies ever made. After seeing the film, I would have to agree. Based from the life experience war veteran and Olympian Louis Zamperini, Unbroken is a true testament to the strength of the human spirit.

Of Gentleman Spies in Kingsman: The Secret Service

Monday, February 16, 2015 , 0 Comments

When you think of a spy movie, what immediately comes into mind? For me, it’s usually out of the ordinary gadgets, unbelievable fighting skills and menacing world dominating villains. I recently watched Kingsman: The Secret Service and it had all these and more. Add in a dash of British accents, the star powers of Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Samuel L. Jackson and dogs (yes dogs), how can you not want to see this film. Before you dismiss it as something more for the older generation as what gentleman spies mostly pertain to, think again because as I came out of the theater, I was pleasantly surprised that I loved the film.

Chappie and His Humanity

Tuesday, February 10, 2015 , , 0 Comments

Whenever Hollywood makes a movie about robots, it will either be robots fighting or robots with human qualities. In the movie Chappie, it will be the latter as he introduces us to a re-imagined world that is much like our own. The exceptions include a police force that is highly mechanized, highly efficient and also highly oppressive. Chappie was the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself.

Back from a Brief Hiatus

Tuesday, February 10, 2015 0 Comments

My apologies once again for taking a brief break from blogging. I did miss writing and updating here everyday but as my personal life is in shambles, I had to step back and re-focus. As a friend noted, I have so much going on but even if that is so, I'm not too busy to feel. I am the queen of multi-tasking and I unfortunately am struggling to keep things together.
