Rene is Back in Bridget Jones's Baby

Wednesday, August 31, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

Can you believe that the last Bridget Jones film was back in 2001? I can’t even remember when I’ve last seen Rene Zellweger in a starring role. Flash forward to now and several years later into the life of Bridget Jones, we see her much older and without Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) by her side.

Don’t Breathe Movie Review

Wednesday, August 31, 2016 , 0 Comments

My impressions when I saw the trailer for Don’t Breathe was that it was a suspense film about an old man being robbed by kids. If there was a supernatural element in it, it was going to be revealed in the film itself although the trailer suggested something lurking in the basement. I was a bit surprised when I saw the marketing campaign for the film classifying it as a horror film, so I thought, well I guess there IS something down that basement.
After seeing it though, the film was totally unexpected.

First Trailer for the Horror Film, Rings

Monday, August 29, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

Remember The Ring movie when they first came out? That was really haunting. I remember playing scare games with my friends before and I think those films gave me rightful nightmares. Now it seems that the movie franchise is coming back with the upcoming horror film, Rings.

Sing it Like Florence

Florence Foster Jenkins Movie Review
Have you ever had a dream that you can’t simply let go? That’s what I admired most about Florence Foster Jenkins and her quest to become a celebrated Opera singer. The movie is one of the most inspiring and hilariously enjoyable films I’ve seen this month and I can’t recommend it enough. It is pretty low key but Meryl Streep plays the titular role and I’d have to hand it to her. Her talent is just like magic. She fully embraces the roles and transforms them into someone we’d have no choice but to fall in-love with.

Sleep, Julie and Julia and the Kindle Paperwhite

Yesterday, I got more than 10 hours of sleep and after a harrowing three weeks, spending more than 3 hours on the bed for just sleep was definitely something else. It was the kind of break that my body needed after dealing with so much stress the past weeks. I have been seeing myself in the mirror and I hated what I saw. The dark circles under my eyes have darkened so much more, my eyes had this very tired look and not to mention that my skin looked sallow. Thank goodness for the long weekend.

However, for a workaholic like me, after spending so many hours in bed, I felt guilty for being unproductive. So I compensated on working away til midnight. I probably shouldn’t have drank that one last cup of coffee because it kept me up until 3am.

War Dogs Movie Review

Sunday, August 28, 2016 , 0 Comments

Who doesn’t want to get rich quick and real fast? That was the initial impression that I got when I saw the trailer for War Dogs. Then I learned that it was directed by Todd Phillips, the same dude who brought us The Hangover films and I thought to myself, okay, I will be watching a very guy film. That’s what I call these kinds of film anyway. True enough, the true story of David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli was one wild ride.

Take the WWF Endangered Species Quiz

Tuesday, August 16, 2016 0 Comments

It’s sad to know that there are many species of animals that are in danger of extinction due to the reckless use of the environment.  There have already been countless animals that have gone extinct and were beyond saving despite the efforts of many environmental group. Here in the Philippines, we also have our share of animals that desperately need protecting. This is why in support of WWF, I’m helping raise awareness for these animals. One fun way to do that is to take this Endangered Species Quiz.

Hitting it Big in War Dogs

Monday, August 15, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

From director Todd Philips comes the new film, War Dogs which stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. The two are playing characters in their early 20s who are set to exploit a government initiative that allows small business to bid on U.S. Military contracts. They started out small but soon, they begin to rake in real, big amounts of cash.

Story of Forgiveness in Ben-Hur

Monday, August 15, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Looking at the released trailers for the upcoming movie, Ben-Hur, I can’t help but notice the scale in which the movie was made, it is surely reminiscent of the movie, Gladiator. More than an action-film though, Ben-Hur is also a story of forgiveness. It is based from the original novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale of Christ by Lew Wallace.

Traffic Tales of Woe

Monday, August 15, 2016 , 0 Comments

Today, my Facebook memories showed me this status update that I posted four years ago. I was venting out my frustration about how traffic was getting horrible and horrible. Little did I know that four years after, traffic would just be much worse.

The New Look of Goodreads

Saturday, August 13, 2016 , 0 Comments

I finally had some free time to myself this morning and I got to see how many books I’ve delayed in reading for the completion of my reading challenge this year. The weather for the past week has been very conducive to reading and I kinda miss it. That’s when I found out that Goodreads has revamped its webpage. Take a look.

Art & Great Food at Zette’s Cafe

Thursday, August 04, 2016 0 Comments

Being an interior designer requires me to be very immersed in art and design in my day to day life. I will never grow tired of the creative process and since I had become serious with other art hobbies like calligraphy and watercolor, I have found new appreciation for the world of art as well. I find it even better when art and good food can be found in one place, that’s the ideal space that I always look for when conducting my art workshops. I may have found such a haven in San Juan inside Zette’s Cafe and Kulayara Art Gallery.

Featuring the Epic Chariot Scene in Ben-Hur

Tuesday, August 02, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

I've always been impressed when actors go out of their way to fully immerse themselves in a role. In some cases, they have to learn an entirely new skill and may involve some very physical stunts. This was the demand for Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell as they prepared for their roles in the upcoming film, Ben-Hur.

The Shallows Movie Review

What makes the call of the open sea, intriguing and terrifying at the same time? Maybe it’s because so much of it has been left unexplored and there are so many unknown sea creatures that may or may not pose a threat to us human beings. It is also the part of the earth where we do not have complete dominion. The sea does offer great and fun recreational activities like surfing. Now that brings such fond memories. I’ve only gotten to try surfing twice and I’ve been wanting to get back to it for a while now. My pale skin is missing the sand and surf of the beach. Well, at least these were my thoughts while I was stuck in traffic while on the way to the press screening of The Shallows, a movie starring Blake Lively. Well, it’s also been a while since I’ve seen a good shark movie and The Shallows delivered pretty good thrills.
