Goodbye September and Friday Re-Cap

Friday, September 30, 2016 , , 0 Comments

I was currently enjoying my cup of coffee while browsing through my reader (I’ve been an avid Netvibes user for years by the way) and contemplating on what to write when I thought about the things that happened this week. What a week it had been! First off let me tell you about what I heard on the radio just before I got to work.

Movie Review: Sausage Party

Tuesday, September 27, 2016 , 0 Comments

I was invited to a press screening of Sausage Party about a week ago and knowing that it was a Seth Rogen film, I kinda had a feeling that it was going to be one of those hilarious R-rated comedy movies that his films were known for. Little did I know though. Yes, it was an animated film and it was raunchy. Raunchy is even an understated term for me. Hahaha! Ladies, if you’re going to watch this film, better put on the boyfriend pants and the boyfriend shirt, you’re in for a wild ride.

Cross-Stitch Street Art

Monday, September 26, 2016 0 Comments

Remember when cross-stitch is all the rage in crafting? I still have a framed angel cross-stitch up in our living room and another one that I had neglected to finish. Now where did I put that thing? Never have I imagined it as street art. It’s a good thing that artist, Raquel Rodrigo thought of it. It really provides a delicate beauty and splash of color in an urban neighborhood. Check it out.

The Art of Decaying Cars

Monday, September 26, 2016 0 Comments

What would you do if you’ve got an extra space in your backyard? What would you do if that space is A LOT? I would probably have an art studio put up. I’ve really been wanting that for a while now. *daydreams* Haha okay, going back. Former racing driver Michael Frohlich decided to do something else in the extra space that he has in his estate. By the extra space, I mean a whole forest of it. Yep, it’s that big! What he did though involved collecting several cars, crashing them into trees and burying them in mud.

The Hottest Chip in the Planet

Monday, September 26, 2016 , 0 Comments

Do you have the guts to eat the world’s hottest pepper? The hottest pepper in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records is the Carolina Reaper. It measures 1.57 million SHU in the Scoville scale. I wouldn’t even dare to try one because the hottest I’ve tried is our local Siling Labuyo and that only measures around 50,000 to 100,000 SHU. For spicy food lovers though, Paqui Chips is offering the Carolina Reaper Madness chip, soon to be called the hottest chip in the world.

Game Review: Heart’s Medicine

Friday, September 23, 2016 , , 0 Comments

I usually go through phases when I scour the Google Play Store for a game worth reviewing and writing about here. I have found one when I stumbled upon Heart’s Medicine one lazy Saturday afternoon. I’ve been wanting to play a hospital-themed time management game for a while and I couldn’t find a decent game for months. I think I was having some bouts of Theme Hospital nostalgia. Heart’s Medicine is a casual game from GameHouse that is the cureall to my hospital game cravings.

Movie Review: The Magnificent Seven

Thursday, September 22, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Coming fresh from the premiere of The Magnificent Seven, I was eagerly telling my colleagues at work how great a movie it was. They told me that the movie was very old. What?! Well, that was my perplexed answer. Spending a few minutes on Google told me that it was based from a 1960s film of the same title. So okay, it was based from a really old film. Normally, I don’t like western films. Gun slinging cowboys don’t appeal to me that much, plus the desert and dusty setting doesn’t help either. However, The Magnificent Seven might prove to be an exemption. From the moment that Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington) showed off his quick draw and sharp shooting skills in the bar, I was literally on the edge of my seat.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trailer

Wednesday, September 21, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

If you happen to browse through the young adult section in your local bookstore, you’ll probably notice the book series, Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children,  standing out from among the shelves. Why? The monochromatic cover and haunting photographs of children remind you of a classic horror movie, the kind that won’t let you sleep with the lights off at night. So it’s only fitting that when they make a movie adaptation of it, they’d chose a director with a wondrously weird and creative touch. Tim Burton is perfect for the job.

Bridget Jones is Back…with a Baby!

Friday, September 16, 2016 , 0 Comments

Last week and just in time to herald my very long weekend, I got to see the new Bridget Jones’ movie. I went home very light-hearted and eagerly looking forward to say goodbye to my stresses for a while. Bridget Jones’s Baby had me laughing out loud so many times that I had lost count. (edit: okay apparently it is acceptable to have that possessive form for proper nouns) Okay, having said that, let’s move on. You don’t really need to have seen the first film in order to enjoy this. Trust me, I can’t remember what happened in the first film but I do feel that you’ll be laughing more because there are many references from the first movie.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Thursday, September 15, 2016 , 0 Comments

Prior to writing this book review, I had logged into my Goodreads account and checked just how long ago was the release of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Would you believe that the book was released 8 years ago? Has it really been that long ago? While we’ve all moved on, cherished that last of the movies and had our withdrawal period, here comes another Harry Potter book! What?! Hooray!

Sully Movie Review

Monday, September 12, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Back in January in 2009, an unfortunate series of events caused the US Airways Flight 1549 to be marooned on the Hudson river. No one died and Captain Chesley Sullenberger executed the difficult maneuver and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles and they were rightfully proclaimed heroes. The titular role was a role that Tom Hanks couldn’t pass up and the team up with director, Clint Eastwood resulted in a movie that’s both unforgettable and surreal at the same time. There’s general positivity about the film and the fact that it’s based on true events makes it very inspiring and amazing.

Monday, September 12, 2016 , , 0 Comments

As the closing-night movie at the 73rd Venice Film Festival which was held last September 10th, The Magnificent Seven was shown to the avid film crowd. Attending the premiere screening were Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and director Antoine Fuqua. A few days before, The Magnificent Seven was shown as the opening film at the Toronto International Film Festival. Being the opening and closing film at the two most prestigious film festivals kicks off a busy and hectic promotional week for the film as we prepare for a September 21st showing here in the Philippines.

Pete’s Dragon Movie Review

Friday, September 09, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

Last Monday, I got to see a light film about a kid and his pet dragon. In the land of fantasies, I would want one too plus a tiger. In Pete’s Dragon, we got a glimpse of how it would be like when a fantastical creature such as a dragon becomes your friend and protector. Here was Disney’s take on the amazingly friendly dragon named Elliot and how he captured the heart of a little boy.

Free Manila Commuting App for Android

Wednesday, September 07, 2016 , 0 Comments

I chanced upon this app while looking for games in the Google Play Store. If you’re going to Manila or is needing some help with your daily commute, Sakay.ph can be really helpful. It’s a free Android app that shows you where the commuting terminals are, how long your commute will take and what route to take if you decide to walk to your destination. I think it also takes into account the traffic that rages on each and every single day within Metro Manila. Oh, the app is applicable nationwide, not just within the Metro. Here’s my initial take.

Tom Hanks in Sully

Monday, September 05, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Over the course of the past few days I’ve been asked by a few people if the movie, Sully features the blue and purple furry monster that we all love from Monster’s Inc. I admit that I couldn’t help but laugh. Let’s set the record straight shall we? Sully is an upcoming true-to-life film about Captain Chesley Sullenberger (Sully for short) played by Tom Hanks. In it is the so-called miracle landing on the Hudson river. Here we will get to see his life, how he came to be a pilot and how a few seconds changed his entire career.

Illustrated Human Anatomy on your Plate

Monday, September 05, 2016 , 0 Comments

I saw these set of plates and while some might find it gruesome to be staring at illustrations of body parts while trying to enjoy a meal, I think they’re quite cute. Oh and this Biologist Plate Set might also tickle the fancy of the doctor in your family. [PRODUCT PAGE]

The Future of Human Evolution in Morgan

Sunday, September 04, 2016 , , 0 Comments

What do you think is the future of human evolution? In the sci-fi thriller, Morgan, the next step is borne from a scientific study that produced an artificial yet organic being. From the moment of her creation, Morgan (Anya Taylor-Joy) has exhibited exemplary growth. While she is a wonder in the lab, her behavior is very erratic and unpredictable.

Isla Fisher in Nightmares

Sunday, September 04, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

I’ve loved Isla Fisher ever since I saw her in Confessions of a Shopaholic. I loved her even more when I saw her in Now You See Me. She’s great in comedy and as a magician but I wonder how she’ll be when it comes to horror films. She’s starring alongside Jim Parsons in the horror movie, Visions aka Nightmares. Yes, this is the same Jim Parsons who we all know and love as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

Get Rid of the Avira Invisible Popup Window

Friday, September 02, 2016 0 Comments

The other night, coming home late to do some more work before bed, I found that to my horror, I couldn’t work on anything on my PC. Why? There was this invisible pop-up window in the middle of my screen (I found out that it was there because everytime I move my mouse cursor in the central area of my monitor, the cursor arrow changes into a hand) that takes me to a new browser tab everytime I accidentally click on it. Grrrr.

New Pottermore Presents Series

Thursday, September 01, 2016 0 Comments

I received some good news over my Goodreads newsletter yesterday. Guess what Potterheads? We have some new ebooks to look forward to this month. Slated for release this coming 6th, Pottermore offers us a collection of short stories that offer background stories on some characters from the books, stories born from the suggestion of fans and history of sorts. It’s looking to be a very interesting compilation and I simply can’t wait to get my hands on them!
