Quick Feature: Marufuku Japanese Restaurant

Saturday, October 29, 2016 0 Comments

For one of our monthsaries (yes, we still celebrate those), we made an impromptu decision to have dinner at Marufuku, a Japanese restaurant that had been highly recommended by my boyfriend’s friends. It was a Saturday night that time and when we got there, the place was full. It’s a good thing that the hostess still accommodated walk-ins but we had to sit at the sushi bar. It was fine, since it was only us two.

Android Game: Make Tusok the Fishball

Thursday, October 27, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Haha I know! If you’re from the Philippines, you’re probably rolling your eyes right now. The game title alone is enough to get my attention. I couldn’t believe someone actually made a game like this! It sure is a time-waster and if you’re an achiever, you might actually get hooked into it. The game is made by developer, Most Played Games and it’s based from a popular street food here in the country. Here’s an actual shot of the street food (photo courtesy of angsarap.net).

Halloween Update for Pokemon Go

Wednesday, October 26, 2016 , , 0 Comments

If you’re still playing Pokemon Go, then heads up, there’s now an update for the app just in time for Halloween. The update is not that major though but at least there are some fixes for minor bugs. The Halloween update will go live on the 26th. You’ll notice that you’ll be catching more and more spooky Pokemons. So if you’re looking to evolve those, then you’d better go hunting. Oh and there’ll be double the candy too.

Ben Affleck stars as a socially inept math genius, Christian Wolff in The Accountant.  While he seems harmless in his full-time job at a small-town CPA office, he also works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.

Increase Productivity with the BDJ Desk Calendar

One of the best tools for productivity in my opinion is a desk calendar. It is often overlooked because it is easy to dismiss its presence on your desk but I can’t say how many times it had been very very useful to me. Just one glance and I can see important dates, meetings and events that I have to go to for the week.

Movie Review: Keeping Up with the Joneses

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 , 0 Comments

I got to watch Keeping Up with the Joneses last week and it was a good break from the work week. The trailer had me laughing out loud and I had high expectations for a Zach Galifianakis movie. The movie mostly started out about Jeff (Zach Galifianakis) and Karen (Isla Fisher) who were otherwise leading normal but mundane lives. They lived in a nice neighborhood which gave out a Desperate Housewives vibe. Then the new neighbors moved in and all hell broke lose.

Scenes from the 2016 BDJ Fair

Sunday, October 23, 2016 , 0 Comments

Last weekend, after doing my weekend chores, I headed down to the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall where the 2016 BDJ Fair was being held. I was surprised that the place was packed with people and the entire area was brimming with activites. There was a storm that weekend and despite the gloomy weather, the turnout was pretty good. Upon registering, visitors were greeted by this selling booth. This is also where eager bellas can see the lineup of 2017 planners from the Belle de Jour team.

Here’s a little more to satiate your excitement for the upcoming Marvel film, Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Let’s get to know the other characters in the movie. First up of course is Doctor Stephen Strange himself. He is a brilliant doctor with exceptional skills and an outstanding career. He is quite arrogant and when he got involved in a tragic accident, it cost him his entire career. It is through this yearning to redeem himself that he crosses paths with The Ancient One, who will teach him the ways of the Mystic Arts.

Three Ways to Access Google Keep

One of the note-taking apps that I frequently use is Google Keep. It’s a simple note-taking app that lets you create simple color-coded notes and lists on  your device and sync it via the power of the cloud. Google Keep lets you also share these notes and lists to friends and collaborators so that you can edit notes simultaneously. Just recently, these notes can be made friendlier and more searchable through the use of categories and tags.

Star Wars fans have much to be happy about come the end of the year with the release of the standalone film, Rogue One. Fresh from the studios of Lucasfilm, we get to see an all new epic adventure that is set in the Star Wars universe. I guess this is a timely move to amp up the anticipation for the next chapter in the Star Wars Saga.

Movie Trailer: Allied

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 , , , 0 Comments

Ever wonder about the movie that brought about the rumors of a Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard affair? Well, here it is. They’ve just released the new trailer for Allied and I must tell you that it reminded me so much of Mr. and Mrs. Smith albeit in a more serious way. The movie’s plot appears to be heavy and will test any perceived notions you have of love, trust and marriage.

It was a week ago when I was invited to a special event to preview the 2017 Belle de Jour Planners. I’ve been an avid of the Belle De Jour Planners for so long that my week cannot be complete without me putting in my thoughts and schedule first. I was so excited to see what the next year’s set of planners will be and I’m so excited to report that they are worth the wait and it’s going to be hard choosing which one would be best for your lifestyle. I want them all!!

Monday, October 10, 2016 , , 0 Comments

One of the most loved actors when it comes to his roles in movies is Tom Hanks and one of the most iconic roles that he has is of Robert Langdon. In the latest installment of the movie franchise, Inferno, Robert Langdon is on a quest to retrieve his memory. This time as he follows clues, it leads him to the great writer, Dante. He teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor to help recover his memories.

The trail eventually leads them across Europe. where they find out the sinister plot to unleash a global virus that would wipe out the world’s population. Tom Hanks expresses his joy in reprising the famous role because he knows how viewers love solving a good puzzle and the Dan Brown films provide them that. He says that it’s almost like an interactive film.

The Craft Central at Greenbelt 5

Monday, October 03, 2016 , , 0 Comments

I was invited to the soft opening of The Craft Central as they opened their very own store at the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 5. I was greeted by Alexis Ventura herself, who looked positively radiant as crafters and friends congratulated her on her store’s opening. The venue was packed and I was happy to see familiar faces as we excitedly perused the products inside the store.

Books I want to Read this Month

Sunday, October 02, 2016 0 Comments

Eeep! It’s already October! Can you believe it? We’re just breezing through 2016 and the next thing you know, it’s December once again. Speaking of, have you taken a peek at your calendars yet and seen when the holidays will fall on? Yes, they fall on weekends!!! This year has got to be the shortest holiday break (well for most of us) ever. There are more work days!! Boo! Anyway, how are you guys doing with your reading challenges? I’m still not caught up with mine but I am thoroughly looking forward to the books I want to read this month.

Goldenhand (Abhorsen #5) by Garth Nix
For those who fell in-love with the Old Kingdom series, Lirael’s tale continues and what a fifth book this is going to be!

photo october-books-to-read-02.jpg Lirael is no longer a shy Second Assistant Librarian. She is the Abhorsen-in-Waiting, with Dead creatures to battle and Free Magic entities to bind. She’s also a Remembrancer, wielder of the Dark Mirror. Lirael lost one of her hands in the binding of Orannis, but now she has a new hand, one of gilded steel and Charter Magic.
When Lirael finds Nicholas Sayre lying unconscious after being attacked by a hideous Free Magic creature, she uses her powers to save him. But Nicholas is deeply tainted with Free Magic. Fearing it will escape the Charter mark that seals it within his flesh and bones, Lirael seeks help for Nick at her childhood home, the Clayr’s Glacier.

But even as Lirael and Nick return to the Clayr, a young woman named Ferin from the distant North braves the elements and many enemies in a desperate attempt to deliver a message to Lirael from her long-dead mother, Arielle. Ferin brings a dire warning about the Witch with No Face. But who is the Witch, and what is she planning?
Once more a great danger threatens the Old Kingdom, and it must be forestalled not only in the living world, but also in the cold, remorseless river of Death.

Paul Bettany Directs Shelter

Sunday, October 02, 2016 , , 0 Comments

Adding to the list of actors who are now directing and writing their own movies is Paul Bettany. I remember him best in his roles in A Knight’s Tale and as Silas in The Da Vinci Code. Yes!! He was the pale murderous monk!! He’s a brilliant actor and more recently, he’s been playing the role of Vision in The Avengers films. His first directorial debut is Shelter which is about two homeless people and their plight to survive. Starring in the film is his wife, Jennifer Connely and Anthony Mackie.
