Dunkirk, the next Nolan Epic

Wednesday, July 05, 2017 , , , 0 Comments

When a multi-awarded director releases a new film, one can’t help but set expectations high and when it’s a war film, expectations go even higher. I mean, there’s so many war films already right? If Christopher Nolan is at the helm, I have this feeling that this is going to be epic. Dunkirk will open in Philippine theaters on July 20th and was entirely filmed with IMAX film cameras. You know what else is special about this film? Christopher Nolan wrote the screenplay himself. Now that IS something.

Ansel Elgort Stars in Baby Driver

Wednesday, July 05, 2017 , , 0 Comments

Remember the guy who was melting hearts in The Fault in Our Stars movie who starred opposite Shailene Woodley back in 2014? Well, he’s finally back in a starring role and this time he’ll be alongside some of the big names in Hollywood. The movie, Baby Driver will open in cinemas next month here in the Philippines but if you’re following Ansel Elgort on Twitter (like I have), some countries have already been lucky enough to see the film and the response had been overwhelmingly positive. It looks like the movie will have an awesome soundtrack too.

Quick Thai Food Lunch at Thai Dara

Saturday, June 17, 2017 0 Comments

At lunch one time, the hungry bellies of me and fiance had us exploring one of the many restaurants inside Pioneer Supercenter. He had been craving for Thai food for a time now and we think we’ve just found a good place to come back to. The little Thai gem that we found was a restaurant named, Thai Dara.

Villainy Runs in the Family in Despicable Me 3

Tuesday, June 13, 2017 , , , 0 Comments

Usually when we’ve come from a long weekend, coming to work the very next day is an effort all itself. However today, I have something to be excited about and that has something to do with the movie in this post. Gru (Steve Carell) is back and this time he’s joined by his twin brother, Dru. Oh yes, he has a twin brother and he’s the exact opposite in every way. The one thing that they have in common is that villainy runs in their blood which I’m soon excited to find out.

Saturday, June 10, 2017 , 0 Comments

My fiancé sometimes get intense food cravings and it takes us into random and totally spontaneous food adventures. Sometimes they’re good finds and sometimes we chuck it off to our experience bank. Ever since moving houses we now live in the vicinity of so many restaurants that we have yet to try. One of these restaurants that I pass everyday but only got to try a few weeks ago was Caution Hot! Spicy Noodle House. Here’s where my fiancé satisfied his noodle cravings.

It’s the World of Wonder Woman

Thursday, June 08, 2017 , 0 Comments

The movie that’s currently crushing box office records and setting new ones is Wonder Woman. Gone were those days when the world had doubts about Gal Gadot portraying the iconic role and instead, she wowed and inspired everyone who had come to see the movie. There were some who had reservations, (mind you, these were only a few) saying they still had a different woman in mind but no one can deny just how our main girl, Gal really pulled off grace, beauty and fierceness in the film. Now she’s inspiring girls and woman all over. What an amazing feat!

A Fresher and Rowdier Baywatch

Tuesday, June 06, 2017 , 0 Comments

I donned my girl next door persona again last night as I attended the press screening for the new Baywatch movie which I had expected to be the perfect popcorn movie to turn off your brains for a while, pig out and just laugh until your bellies get a bit gassy (yes I dare say it). Nevermind that just before seeing the movie, my friends and I were talking how little positive reception it got from its opening weekend in the US, in my years as a movie blogger, I’ve learned to tune out such reviews and reserve my own opinion of the movie after I’ve seen the film. Just as I suspected, Baywatch was what it had claimed to be, nostalgic in a sense that it had some of the elements from the show but way funnier and more in your face. With Dwayne Johnson at the helm, I wouldn’t expect any less. Have I convinced you yet? Well, read on.

Getting to Know the Pearls of Palawan

Thursday, May 18, 2017 , 0 Comments

I was fortunate enough to visit Palawan during one of our company outings and I can attest that it is truly beautiful and magical. It is home to rich rainforests, diverse sea life, scenic diving sites and beautiful beaches. It is also just recently that I learned that Palawan plays host to pearl farming, an industry unique to our country. One of the key players in the pearl farming industry is Jewelmer.

Saying Hello to Distraction Free Driving

Thursday, May 18, 2017 , , 0 Comments

This morning I was anxiously waiting for my GrabCar driver to pick me up. I was watching the navigation map on the Grab app and I saw that he was just 5 minutes away. 10 minutes has passed and he still hasn't arrived. I kept checking his location and he was still in the same place. I was afraid that the app had frozen on me. Thankfully, he arrived just moments later. He told me just what I had suspected, his phone restarted and he couldn't get the Grab app and Waze back up again. He also told me that he had to resort to asking around for directions to where I was. I remember that was how we were back then, back when Waze wasn't such a big part of our everyday driving lives.

Today is the day of implementation for the Anti-distracted Driving Act which was passed into a law last August 1, 2016. So motorists, beware...resist the urge of touching that phone or else..

Heads Up, Baywatch is Headed our Way this Month

Whenever I think about Baywatch, my mind flashes back to the friendship of Joey and Chandler in Friends. I’m sure fellow Friends fans will agree. Now this long over TV show is getting the big screen treatment under the star power of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Baywatch opens in cinemas on May 31st.

Excalibur, King Arthur and Charlie Hunnam

Sunday, May 14, 2017 , 0 Comments

What do we really know about the legend of King Arthur? We all know about him, the Knights of the Round Table and of course, the famous sword Excalibur. Well, let’s also not forget about Merlin. There’s also been so many movie made about him but a few days ago, I may have just seen the best adaptation and a great retelling of the legend as well. I’ve got to be honest that I didn’t expect much, except that the movie definitely had an epic feel to it based on the trailers alone. I wasn’t prepared to be blown away but oh man, Guy Ritchie made something amazing here and it was just incredibly impressive.

Modern Re-telling of King Arthur Coming Up

Wednesday, May 03, 2017 , , 0 Comments

We’re all familiar with the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table right? In this new version of the tale, King Arthur is given a modern and grittier edge through the spectacular direction of Guy Ritchie and the led by Charlie Hunnam in the titular role. Instead of being a royal, King Arthur is a common ruffian who runs a gang in the alleys of Londonium and will soon be made aware of the destiny that lies before him.

Summer Thunderstorms, the CA and the Proper Decorum

Wednesday, May 03, 2017 0 Comments

Just as we’ve been complaining that the summer heat is becoming intolerable especially during the hours of 2 to 3 in the afternoon, here come the summer thunderstorms, as is the signature of the month of May. These sudden strong rainshowers in the late afternoon and evening are especially not beneficial to those susceptible to allergies like me but well, what can we do right?

I used to have a Stephen King phase back in high school and you bet I’ve read, The Dark Tower. This is why I’m excited to finally be able to watch its movie adaptation on the big screen. To top it off, it will be starred by two of the most talented actors in Hollywood, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. As a treat before the launch of the movie’s official trailer, Columbia Pictures has released the first set of individual posters featuring the movie’s protagonists.

Open up your eyes, people or rather feel the beads of sweat from your pores! Rants done, let us show the same concern to ease our furry friends during these warm months.

Transformers: The Last Knight Sneak Peek

Friday, April 07, 2017 , , 0 Comments

We were given a special treat last night at the special IMAX theater screening for the 20-minute preview of the movie, Transformers: The Last Knight. To be honest, I really didn’t like the fourth film, Transformers: Age of Extinction because it was too tiring and the girl character there was extremely annoying. So, I tried my best to be more open-minded with this film and maybe, Michael Bay will have the chance to redeem himself. Before the preview, there was around 4-minutes where Michael showed some behind the scenes work for the movie and how it was him who made a special rig to shoot the movie wholly using IMAX cameras and in 3D. I must admit that it would be interesting to see the final cut and see all the hardwork of the technical team.

Pasta, Different Ways

Tuesday, March 28, 2017 0 Comments

For my mom’s birthday during the first week of March, we took her out to dinner. Her request was to eat her favorite squid ink pasta at The Old Spaghetti House. We used to go to their branch over at Sumulong Hi-way but since another one opened up in Robinson’s Place and it was nearer, we chose not to go to the more scenic branch. It was a quiet dinner, just us five – me and my boyfriend (now my fiance), my sister and her boyfriend and of course the birthday celebrant herself, my mom.

How to Use Canva to Create Blog Graphics

One of the best ways to create eye-catching posts on your blog is to use interesting and visually-appealing graphics. It’s really easy and you don’t even have to use Photoshop for it. I recently discovered Canva’s Online Graphic Tool and I’m grateful that I did. It takes away the complicated steps that you need to do just to produce one blog banner or header for a post and sometimes, one wouldn’t have the time to do it. The best about this service is that it’s FREE, yep I said the magic word right there didn’t I?

Ghost in the Shell Movie Banners

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 , , 0 Comments

Just last night, my fiancé was playing the movie trailer for Ghost in the Shell, telling me that he wants to watch the movie. It’s only a few days away with the opening date for the movie slated at March 29th. I love that the protagonist is played by Scarlett Johansson. She’s being a little bit stereotyped into this badass woman, who can kick major butt and still look pretty sexy doing it but hey, it works and she’s so good at it. So hooray for Scarlett!

I’m sure you’ve heard of the latest endeavors to send a space mission to Mars. We’ve always been fascinated of the possibility of some alien life form lurking beneath the barren deserts of our neighboring planet. Well, what if there was indeed life there, do you think you would consider sharing a habitat with them? More importantly, will they want to share their planet with us? In the movie, Life, the six-member crew of the International Space Station found life on the planet.

The Best Wolverine Movie Yet

Tuesday, March 07, 2017 0 Comments

Last week, I got to attend a block screening for the movie, Logan along with my fiancé (yes, I’m getting married!!) and his sister. Amidst the rush of braving the traffic and following Waze on roads I’ve never passed before just to get to Promenade on time, I began thinking of the previous Wolverine movies I’ve seen and I tried to remember if there was a hint about this movie that I was about to see in those films. For the life of me, I can only remember Deadpool and Silverfox in those films plus Wolverine himself. Speaking of the man, Hugh Jackman really turned this character into something truly iconic. I cannot see anyone else who would do a better job than what he did with Wolverine. I cannot say the same for Spider Man though, I really wish they’d stop rebooting that franchise. Anyway, Logan was also a movie that had set the standard high in terms of comic book adaptations into films, this one had substance and depth not just eye-candy and fan-oriented action scenes. No wonder it had been the subject of so much social media buzz the past week.

Emily Blunt is Mary Poppins

Monday, March 06, 2017 , , 0 Comments

Next year, we’ll see a return of one of the most beloved classic literary characters, Mary Poppins and this time around, she’ll be portrayed by no other than Emily Blunt. I think she’s perfect because she’s a great actress as well as an amazing singing voice. Mary Poppins Returns is based from a screenplay by David Magee, the same scribe who wrote Life of Pi. The movie will be under the direction of Rob Marshall, who directed Chicago and Into the Woods.

Upcoming Movie: Fist Fight

Tuesday, February 14, 2017 , , 0 Comments

In the school, one of the authority figures is a teacher but what if there’s is that one day in the entire school year where teachers can behave just like students? In the movie, Fist Fight two teachers are pitted against each other in a versus one-off. Ice Cube plays the role of Ron Strickland opposite Charlie Day as Andy Campbell.

You know those movie where you can just turn off your brain for at least two hours and just laugh at the funny and hilarious antics going on in the screen? I think Fist Fight is going to be one of those. The trailer alone was already hilarious and I can’t wait to see just who wins the fights.

The Return of Xander Cage Movie Review

Wednesday, February 01, 2017 , 0 Comments

I know this is a little late in posting but bear with me while I still put down my thoughts on this film. Aside from the Fast and the Furious Movies and the cult-favorite Riddick set of films, Vin Diesel is also known for his role as Xander Cage, an agent in the xXx program. It was this unexpected big hunk of a man doing extreme stunts that made the xXx movie franchise fun to watch. It's also what set the character of Xander Cage apart from other spy agents. Indeed, there was a momentary lapse when Ice Cube took over the title role of a different xXx agent which probably doomed the franchise but props to the producers for bringing back Vin in the picture once again. Here in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Vin Diesel proves once again that him playing the unlikely spy agent is what made the first film such a hit.

Find your Perfect Dog Breed

Monday, January 23, 2017 0 Comments

I came home at almost 2am on Sunday morning trying my best to be perfectly quiet because I knew that my dogs would be asleep. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to do so with their super sensitive hearing. I haven’t even put on my bedroom slippers when I heard one of my beagles barking her trademark “welcome home bark”. This was immediately followed by my other dogs. Who could resist that? So I went out back and was greeted with doggie kisses and happy tail wags. Can you tell that I’m such a happy dog owner?

Thursday, January 12, 2017 0 Comments

Yay, we're only on the second week of January and I'm already two books ahead for my reading challenge. That's a really good sign I tell you. It means I'm finally getting back on track and in control of things. Whew! Here's a peek of my book line-up for this month.

The Girl Who Could Fly
by Victoria Forester
I'm in search of the next good series I can lose myself into and this seems promising. Plus the cover is really great.

Book Cover: photo 23310823.jpgBook Synopsis:

You just can't keep a good girl down . . . unless you use the proper methods.
Piper McCloud can fly. Just like that. Easy as pie.
Sure, she hasn't mastered reverse propulsion and her turns are kind of sloppy, but she's real good at loop-the-loops.
Problem is, the good folk of Lowland County are afraid of Piper. And her ma's at her wit's end. So it seems only fitting that she leave her parents' farm to attend a top-secret, maximum-security school for kids with exceptional abilities.
School is great at first with a bunch of new friends whose skills range from super-strength to super-genius. (Plus all the homemade apple pie she can eat!) But Piper is special, even among the special. And there are consequences.
Consequences too dire to talk about. Too crazy to consider. And too dangerous to ignore.

Send a Valentine's Surprise Through the M&M's Fun First Move Project

Wednesday, January 11, 2017 , 0 Comments

Like it or not, the holidays are now behind us but while we anxiously await for the holiday season to come once again, there's cause to celebrate next month as Valentine's Day knocks on our hearts and doors as the case may be.
Don't be that Valentine's Day grouch and share the sentiment of love to that special someone in your life. I'm offering you the chance to do it in a spectacular way. Here's how:

1. Buy any two packs of M&M's products.
2. Post a photo of the products you bought on your social media accounts with the hashtag #mmsfunfirstmove. Make sure these accounts are on public setting.
3. You can also present your proof of purchase to the M&M's booth in the store so that they can process your registration.
4. Wait for the winners to be announced. You just might get lucky!

What's at stake here? Well here are three fun ways that M&M's can make your special someone feel extra special this Valentine's Day.

M&M's RED will do a live seranade with a boyband for your loved one.
"If you can't say it, sing it!"

Collateral Beauty Movie Review

We all have our own ways to deal with loss and grief. I found out mine when I lost my dad almost three years ago. That was what I was remembering while watching Collateral Beauty at a special screening along with some bloggers. Similar to what happened to me, what unfolded on screen were friends going out of their way to help their friend find his way again.
