Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Movie Review

By Cher Cabula-Mendoza - Monday, June 11, 2018

After man has played god and made dinosaurs for them to profit from, the park gets destroyed and now Mother Nature intends to right the wrong and the volcano on Isla Nublar is due to erupt at any moment. Mankind now has the dilemma to choose whether to let the dinosaurs live or not. Even if they were made in a lab, they are now alive. Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt) are set to save them. I am of course, talking about the now showing movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Yes, yes there’s another one and oh boy, this was really good.

As I’ve mentioned, the volcano is about to destroy the island. Owen and Claire were employed by Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) who used to be partners with Mr. Hammond when they made the original Jurassic Park, to save some of the dinosaurs to be transferred to an island sanctuary.

Unfortunately, Mr. Lockwood’s assistant had other plans. Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) wants to profit from the dinosaurs that were to be saved. This was how Owen Grady was tricked into aiding in the capture of Blue, his beloved raptor from the previous film.

Even if this movie franchise had its share of hits and misses, I am happy to say that the dinosaur geek in me was in there in the movie theater, screaming and squealing her little heart out. It had the same feel as the very first Jurassic Park film that fans will definitely point out in some key scenes. They didn’t change the Jurassic Park winning formula, dinosaurs-caring humans-greedy bad guys.

Speaking of the bad guys, it was so easy to hate Gunnar Eversol (Toby Jones), who we’ve already seen in the Captain America movies and Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong), who was in the previous Jurassic Park films. When they’re the ones scheming to profit from the dinosaurs, rooting for the good guys seem like a really natural thing.

I’ve always loved Chris Pratt’s character Owen, ever since the last film. He was cool, he had it together and he showed that he had genuine compassion for these genetically made creatures. A win to revive the Jurassic Park franchise if I do say so myself.

Meanwhile, thank goodness Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) ditched her immaculate high heels in favor of combat boots in this movie. I’m sure she found it easier to run this time around. She is truly gorgeous.

At the center of it all are the dinosaurs. It had been said that there are more dinosaurs here than all the Jurassic Park films combined and as much as they don’t really mix with humans well, in terms of co-habitat for the world, the dinosaur geek in me loves them just as much. There are talks now of doing some possible cloning from ancient dinosaur DNA, much like what Michael Crichton originally wrote about in his books and while it’s a thrilling genetical jump, the prospect that what happened in the movies can become real…. Oh well, I read that in some science site. My train of thought leads me to the moral question of should we or shouldn’t we?

Since it’s been raining all weekend, I’m sure most of you stayed home. We have two non-working holidays this week. Do yourself a favor and go out and see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in the theaters. It’s fun, action-packed and full of heart. Who knows? It also might unleash the dinosaur enthusiast in you. It’s one thing that my husband didn’t know about me until he watched at the premiere with me. Five popcorn stars for this film.
