5 Tips to saving money on heating and air conditioning in Texas

It is a must that one has an air conditioning and heating system in Texas. This is more so during the summer period when the temperatures can reach up to 90-degrees and above. When this happens, it becomes uncomfortable to live in your house unless you have a cooling system in place. All the same, one still wants to create some savings in their electricity bill. Therefore, you must look for ways in which to conserve your electricity usage on heating and air conditioning.

So, what are some of the things that one can do save on their heating and air conditioning? You may need to consider the normal Texas Electricity Ratings to guide you on your electricity usage and therefore be able to conserve electricity where possible.

Here are 5 tips to saving money on heating and air conditioning in Texas:

1. Prevent cold air seeping out of the home

One of the causes of high payments in electricity bills is caused by the seeping of cold air out of your home. As such, you need to ensure that there is proper insulation. For example, if your attic is poorly insulated, then you are bound to pay much more in air conditioning costs. To detect any leaks, you can stand outside and run your hands alongside the seams of the windows and doors. You will feel any cold air escaping. All you have to do is just insulate the seams.

2. Close off vents

There are a number of unnecessary vents that you can close off to save on your air conditioning cost. If you can have an air conditioning expert inspect all your vents, it will be easy to seal off some of them. Those that are found at the basement of your house should be closed off as they are simply cooling off a basement that is always cool. When you close off the vents found on the lower half of the home, you will be saving some money since the air conditioner will only be working for the rest of the vents. Cool air will still go down the basement after it has been forced up the upper vents.

3. Rearrange your furniture

If your furniture is not properly arranged in the house, you could end up spending too much to have the air conditioner cooling or heating them instead of the empty spaces. This calls for you to rearrange the furniture in such a way that the air conditioner vents are not blocked by the furniture. You may also need to buy some plastic pieces that can force the air conditioner vents to force the air in the right direction. This is just in case one does not want to rearrange their furniture.
4. Service your air conditioner

An air conditioning system that is not properly maintained will work too hard to keep up with the demand. As such, it will not be efficient and too much energy will be used in the process. To make some savings, you need to have your HVAC serviced as often as possible. Your air conditioner should be serviced at least once a year to ensure that it is efficient enough.

5. Close the blinds

You should close your window blinds so that the hot sun will be kept out. This should be done during the warm days so that your thermostat does not have to overwork itself. It is also a good way to insulate your windows; hence no cold air will escape.
